    New To Me

Just an update for anyone interested. I received my Timney Trigger from Midway USA yesterday and installed it into the Vanguard. Intallation was simple. I did have to Dremmel a little of the composite stock to get the full operation of the safety(I knew I would have to do this from internet reviews). Took all of five minutes. Results The safety has now been upgraded to a three position safety vs the stock and Rifle Basix two position. They claim the Timney comes preset at 3 pounds but it felt way heavier than that. Adjustments were simple and I now have a VERY nice crisp trigger. By the way when the safety is in the "Safe" position I am UNABLE to fire the rifle no matter how hard I pull the trigger. This is exactly what I was looking for. Jeff

    New To Me

Went and shot my 257 Weatherby Vanguard this weekend that I bought from a guy on this site. I mounted a Leupold VX-L 4.5 x 14 x 50mm with the B & C reticle on top of it and boy does this thing shoot. Worked up two loads before we left for the range. 110 grain Accubonds IMR7828 100 grain Tripple Shock Reloader 25 Boresighted and let one Accubond go at 25 yards. Made a windage adjustment and took it out to 200 yards which is where I set my zero on this scope. My next three shots were all over the place. 3150 fps average. Then my brother reminded me that neither of us had good luck with the Accubonds in our 300 Ultra Mags. So I put them away and pulled out the Barnes Tripple Shock. I have had great results with this bullet in both my 7-08 and 300 Ultra. The first three shots from this combo all landed within 1 1/2 from eachother. 3525 fps average. Made som ajustments to bring it to zero and called it good. Then we started picking rocks at further distances and using the B&C reticle I was able to clobber them. I was really happy with the results and am always amazed to see how particular some rifles are with bullet types. On a side note I purchased a Rifle Basix aftermarket trigger for this rifle because the factory trigger is terrible. I installed the trigger (one screw) and it felt great. I then put the rifle on "safe" and was able to pull the trigger. I admit, I had to pull it harder than I normally would, but I wanted to make sire the "safety"was working. I figured there was an adjustment to solve this so I called Rifle Basix. The guy gives me the " a safety is a mechanical devise that can fail and the only safe gun is an unloaded gun or one with the bolt up". Yeah, yeah, yeah, but why does your trigger/safety allow you to pull the trigger while in "safe"? He said "it takes 10 lbs of pull to pull the trigger through the safety and you just shouldnt have to pull that hard to realize you are not in the "safe" position". WOW! I sent the trigger back!!! New To Me

It may have been a light load. My Hornady manual only had 117 grain so I just loaded that max powder charge for IMR 7828 and the 110 grain Accubond. Cant argue with the B.C. difference but I dont think I want to work up a load for the Accubond when the TSX shoots so well. I did some research on the Rifle Basix trigger after I got off the phone with that guy and there were some other "internet" complaints conserning the same problem. The one that comes to mind was a Marlin in 17 HMR. It was also interesting to find out that this guy Bob at Riffle Basix definitely has a reputation for tooting "you should never trust a safety. The only safe firearm is an unlaoded one or one with the bolt up(rifle of course)" Not saying he is wrong but that shouldnt be an excuse for a poorly designed trigger. Midway just sent me my shipping confirmation......my Timney is on the way. Jeff

    fall-away rests

I put limbdrivers on both my bows and love them. Easy to tune and easy to install. Some people are worried that the cord from the rest to the upper limb may cause problems but I have yet to see any. I do put medical tape over the launcher arms to reduce some noise when I draw. I have a Spotthogg Whammy and a Guide Series Drop Zone if anyone is interested. The drop zone has some wear but still functions perfectly. Its camo. The Whammy is pretty much new. Jeff

    RV 101

You can get 6V batteries at Costco for around 60-70 bucks each. They are called golf cart battereis but that is what most rv'ers are using. Sportsmans Warehouse also sells them but they are the high dollar Trojan brand. I think they are called T-105 and are about 135 bucks each. Lots of people say the Trojans are the best but there are alot of people now saying that the Costco bastteries are almost as good considering the cost. Supposedly the compamy that makes the batteries for Costco is a huge reputable battery manufacture. As a matter of fact I read that the Trojan website has a chart comparing thier 6V batteries to other leading manufactures and the maker of the Costco batteries came in second. Trojan came in first. FYI The 6V batteries are taller than the 12V marine batteries so if your are in a battery box the 6V may not fit. Jeff Oh and I think Sams Club may sell a 6V battery as well.

  10. These are from 22N. Thought it was unusual that there was even an antelope there and really unusual that he is hangin with a little Coues buck. I got pictures of the same two on two different days so I dont think it was just a fluke to get them in the same frame. Notice the date on this one Jeff
  11. Yeah its up north just under the rim. First time we have ever seen antelope in there. Not raelly any grasslands to spealk of in this particular area. Must be one of those clingy types and the deer cant shake her. Here is another picture I thought was cool. Jeff

    let the rumors begin!!!

I just kept refreshing. If it locked up for more than a minute I would refresh the screen. When you get to the temprary portal(with the little man in the middle) you are one page away. Ive been trying since 5 this morning. The info page(where you enter your DOB and social, this is last page except for the results page) will load quickly so if you are waiting a long time on the little man page refresh browser. At least thats how I managed to get through. Can you give me the dates of that hunt. Thank you Good luck

    Badlands 4500

Its funny how this particular pack 3 years ago was the cat's meow. Not so much anymore I guess. There are definitely more manufactures producing the kind of packs that we require. Anyway, after some consideration and talking with my brother who sold his on ebay for 190.00 I've decided to reduce the price to $180.00 and I'll throw in the Bino Manager. I just have too many packs and this one does not do me any good sitting in the closet. Jeff

    Badlands 4500

I have a badlands 4500 for sale. It is in perfect condition other than the 1 1/2 tear in the removable daypack section(The lense pen is in the tear to show location). This is the pack with the removeable fanny pack and day pack. I'm sure you all know about the Badlands warranty so it wold be easy to get this repaired. I just never did because it did not affect the functionality. I would like to get $225.00 for it and will throw in the IPI Bino Manager (50bucks) to anyone who is willing to pay that without negotiation. If someone wants to negotiate price I will remove the Bino Managers from the deal. This is a great pack and I believe a great deal. The Bino Manager is similiar to the Crooked Horn binocular suspenders. It holds the binos to your chest until you need them. The difference is when you do need them they are not attatched to the elastic suspenders(like the Crooked Horn) they are just hanging from your neck similiar to a standard bino strap. Its nice because there is no resistance like with the suspenders. I used these for Leica 10 x 50 Trinovid so a similiar size binocular will fit. The zip ties were for additional anchor points for my glassing chair and can be easily removed. The red knots on the shoulder straps were tied on to prevent my rifle sling from sliding off my shoulder during long hikes(also easily removed). I'm in the Mesa area.
  19. Here are a few from Memorial Day weekend. Well that when I swapped out the cards in my cameras at least. Buck Now I lay me down to sleep. Bull Infra Red Camera Bull Another curious bull

    Trophy Ridge Drop Zone

This rest is in the Match/Tech Camo. It has the micro adjustable centershot and elevation. The finger screw for the micro adjust centershot is slightly bent but does not affect the function. Basically you losen a locking screw turn the finger screw to adjust the rest and re-tighten lock screw. The cable was untied from my bow so there should be plenty of length to re-tie it to your bow(It is 8 1/4 inches long) $50.00 obo Jeff
  21. My brother(Jrod) and I had 12 of our cameras out for the last two weeks. Retrieved them today and thought I would share. Not qiite as much fun when the elk are in the early stages of growth but interesting to see how fast they grow them horns. The bear is in our "special" saddle that always has bear its just about impossible to hunt.
  22. Here are a coulple more from the same saddle. Jrod probably posted most of these over the last couple of years.
  23. The treestand was not put up by us. Apparently someone stumbled upon our salt location and thought it to be a good place for a stand. There are two other fixed stands that I can think of within 1 mile of this one (not ours either). I will admit I have used this one a couple of times with good results. I will also admit that its not a good idea(for safety reasons) to leave a stand out year round. Cool pictures though regardless of the stand. We got these pictures last year(or two years ago, cant remeber) in the same saddle. I thoght it was funny, same color and scratching too. This is a different angle but I believe he is scratching on the same tree.
