I have a 2005 Arctic Cat 500 TRV that is having problems. It will not start unless I pump the carb as I am turning it over. Then it will not stay on. It began to stall and backfire just before all of this happened. I have cleaned the air filter, removed and cleaned the carb and jets, emptied and rinsed out the fuel tank, put new gas lines from tank to carb, installed fuel filter in line. None of this had worked. Cannot get the quad started. When it starts very briefly it stalls out when throttled up at all. PLEASE HELP! ! ! ! !

Thanks for looking snapshot. I cannot figure out it either. It is clearly being starved of fuel but I cannot figure out how our why. I will play with it again in the next day or so after I do more research. Thanks for taking time out to look it up and help!

I checked the direction of the fuel filter also. That was one of those things to check while working on all the items listed. Thanks.

Yes, front tank. No fuel or vacuum pump. Straight from petcock to carb. Will look at a carb rebuild kit. Thanks everyone. This has been a frustrating but good learning experience. Normally I would never touch such things but I have been feeling emboldened lately!

Ok last update for today. I pulled the fuel line off the petcock and opened it up. Fuel flowed no problem. Put fuel line back on and barely a trickle. Fuel line is brand new. Fuel filter is brand new. Fuel just not getting pulled into the carb. Really frustrated. AHHHHHH!

Update: Pulled the air filter box, washed it clean. Pulled the carb and pulled the float and needle. Small plastic piece removed. Cleaned well and reassembled. Found the gas tank vent line is crushed and the vent line blocked. Reamed out the vent valve and cut hose to get rid of blockage. Reassembled everything. SAME PROBLEMS! The air line from the carb goes about 24"then is not connected to anything. The gas tank vent line goes about 12" and is not connected to anything. Is this correct? If so, there is no vacuum from either hose. HELP!!!

Could the float be stuck if I can still pump the carb? Or is that an indicator? Thanks!

Not yet. Need to figure out where it is. That was going to be my next guess but not sure where to find it. Would it be attached to engine or between carb and engine?

Hey, I have two daughters. And the mall is wide open to play in for them! Anything inside that is not called "my house" and gets them out. As for the Waterpark, the hotter the weather the skimpier the bikinis! Allows me to point out the really skimpy ones and use them as a lesson as to what my daughter's will NEVER wear!

POGO passes. Waterpark passes. Science Center passes. Anything indoors during the day to run and play. Malls. Basspro. Cabelas. Indoors as much as possible. Heat sucks! Especially with no air conditioning in my car. Speaking of which anyone work on car air conditioners?
