All about perspective amigo. We did a hunt last year, didn't start hunting till we were 7 miles in and a bunch of elevation gain. We had an awesome time and I didn't even have a tag. Gonna go much further this year and I won't have a tag again. Its enjoyable to get your butt kicked a little to hunt country few see. Funny thing is that the deer don't get bigger the further you go. In fact we see way bigger deer in areas that you can hunt from roads. We think it's because there is more water near roads and lion hunters hunt those areas as well. But I wouldn't miss packin way back in to hunt where we see no one, don't hear a quad, you can pass a buck and not assume he is dead by the next guy that sees him, don't have to worry about someone hunting "my" spots, and you can start glassing from your camp cause you are already in there! But to each their own!

Trying to meet a backpack style hunter is a tough deal. Most go to the wilderness because of the solitude and the secret info about the areas. I only backpack hunt with one other buddy. Other hunts are with a small group or with family. Good luck cause like others have said a good hunting partner is a tougher find than a wife.

It's not a phx thing it's an Arizona thing. There are a few good people here but they are the minority in AZ. Lived here my whole life and it seems to get worse.

Just go to humbug cove and look where all the boats are tied up next to each other. Plenty of strippers, hookers, tramps etc to look at.... Or were you talking about fish?????

Points.... I have a Utah deer tag and a san Carlos jan whitey tag... I only want a dec whitey tag and with 8 points the unit I want should be a guaranteed tag next year.

First bull is just about done second one will gain some on the back end but neither are "giants". Different strokes for different folks but for me both get a pass.

If you are getting water from a nasty looking stock tank it is a good idea to use a coffee filter to try and do a "preclean" of the water to avoid jamming your filter full of sediment. I use a katadyne hiker pro pump style filter and this helps. However, most of the water I filter from are springs and natural pockets.

Family first then in no particular order, hunting, steeler football, fishing, a beach with a chair and nothing to do, anywhere there is no cell service, a cooler full of iced down beer near a beach or a campfire, Hillary going to prison...

I don't know about now but back in the day you would see archery road hunters everywhere. They would put two "hunters" in the back of the truck, sitting in chairs, arrows nocked, and launch at anything within striking distance. I'm sure it still goes on just like anywhere there are pine trees maybe not as much as now you have to draw tho. But I have heard the hunt has gotten better and better with reduced tags.

Cool deal. If you don't mind I may ask to come check out this setup... It's pretty much what I'm looking for. Before I plunk down about 7 bills I wanna see if it is what I think it is. Do you have the flat stays or the curved stays?

Long lake.......dry.... Stoneman lake.....dry..... Mormon lake..... Dry....... I used to catch fish in all of them..... Now they are dirt... Sucks but it's only gonna get worse with the drought that we may never get out of...

If they ban hunting in the next 30 years then there will be no game and fish dept except to patrol the lakes. I will definatly get to sheep hunt then in whatever unit I want. No cops to catch me. I will only take one. Lol When it comes to sheep unless you have max, everyone pretty much has the same chance at drawing with 1-26 points.

You hear story's like that in 10 all the time. 10 is a love/hate unit no doubt about it. Some hate it....... I love it...

Shhhhhhhh. All the best rams are in 22 and 24....... Max guys should stay in those two units and only those two units.... Lol

I had the rifle tag in 08 and the archery tag in '10. I hunted the rifle hunt by myself, went 10 days early and scouted my butt off. No cameras, planes, or guides etc, dare I say old school.. Found one slug that got killed by a road hunter the second day, passed many solid deer in the 180-195 range and on day 5 I killed my 208" buck. After I killed him I asked around to see if anyone had a TC pic of him as I obviously didn't, no one had a pic, I did talk to a guy that helped a bow hunter and they tried to kill him one day, the only time they saw him and that guy practically lives on the strip. There are definatly deer that don't get their pic taken. The archery hunt was me and a buddy, we had two cams to check waters we weren't hunting. We hunted water near where we glassed big deer. To shorten the story, my buddy killed a 197" on day 12. He got a pic of him the night before. I ate a tag but that was only due to being way to picky. Took a bunch of pics with a real camera of the deer I passed, I look at those pics from time to time and just shake my head! If you want to wait for a strip tag then do it! Most amazing place to hunt Muleys anywhere! Don't worry about the crowds or the guides or any of that BS. if you are gonna go DIY there are plenty of guys, like myself, that will give you starting points. Go up there and do your thing, it will be the best hunt you can do! I know for me, minus my kids first kills, the rifle hunt in 08 was my biggest achievement in hunting. Mano y Mano and I got what I was after. Do it man! You won't regret it! And if you want to hunt deer most don't see and a place that I have never seen a camera on the waters then draw the tag and get a hold of me. Backpackers paradise, water is limited as with everywhere on the strip, but It would make for an awesome adventure. Good luck
