Whenever I have to bring a little life back into some antlers I use Old English Furniture polish, using a rag I start down at the base and slowly work up to the points. Go light and work it over a few times until you like what you see. If you want to lighten your tine/points up try sanding with fine sandpaper 220 or higher grit. --Bill

Way to go! Have you had any fresh pig yet? How does it compare to domestic? I'm sure it's better, but what might the differences be? --Bill

I can only imagine the loss that the victim's families are struggling with. At the same time wonder how Loughner's family is dealing with this (if my child did something like this, the remorse would be devastating). That this happened is a huge tragedy, there are no easy answers that will change what happened. I have to believe that he will serve his punishment. When that is handed down, what is gained? We all know it isn't the guns fault and that guns shouldn't be on trial here. Bashing back and forth with left or right "rhetoric" hasn't stopped this from happening before. Virginia Tech, Columbine, how many others where the assailant was mentally ill, and not being treated, or no treatment was available? I believe the root of the problem is dealing with the mental illness issue. Do we institutionalize people because they "might" be dangerous? or do we wait until they pull the trigger and then do something (which is usually a call for more gun control)? As a society we have mainstreamed our mentally ill, and wait. We refuse to use tax dollars to help them, but we are all for using our tax dollars to incarcerate them. With the right treatment, we live next to, drive on the same roads, and work with other humans with mental illness. Schizophrenia, Bi-polar, Asperger Syndrome, ect. all manageable to some degree. These people are not criminals unless they break the law, just like anyone else. Which unfortunately is when the cry for help becomes deafening and the only time we acknowledge the issue. What do we as a Civil Society do? --Bill -
That is an awesome Buck congratulations Ryan. If I saw him I'd be tagging him or watching him run after I missed. --Bill

Unit 23 has a portion, or sub-unit that includes the Burro Mts. To hunt that area you have to draw a different license. --Bill

I'd love to see a buck like that in 23... during a hunt. Very nice buck Josh. --Bill

Just bringing this back up, I'm curious if anyone has had anymore encounters or heard rumors of the bigger whitetails in NM. I'm planning this coming years hunting wishlist and want to include this type of hunt. --Bill

I hope we can draw something this year. I didn't get to see it on Friday, had an inch of snow by the end of work Thursday and it took me an hour and a half to get home due to folks not knowing how to drive (3 miles). When the cold white water falls, everyone in their "Too Fast Too Furious" cars find out how useless they are in the mts. So the LANL lords gave us a snowday Friday for 3 1/2 inches of snow. Good luck on the draws, --Bill -

No western hunts for me this year, so I'll be spending 10 days in PA perched in trees hoping for a decent whitetail buck, and a few fat cornfed doe. Hopefull I'll have some pictures in couple weeks to post. --Bill Had a great time as usual. We were in Berks County just north of Philly in 5C. I told myself I wouldn't shoot the first buck I saw unless it was 130"+. First morning I had a 118" - 120" 8 point come in to 18 yards to freshen a scrape, he gave me 3 chances to kill him but he was headed towards my friend that had never hunted the bigger whitetails, so I stuck to my plan of something bigger or just a couple doe. After a few days of hanging out in trees waiting for the right buck, passing legal bucks that just wasn't what I was looking for we moved to an area that needed some doe thinning. We each killed 2 doe this day. I saw 3 bucks that I would have been glad to kill, just didn't get any shots (or pictures, had my bow in hand). Here are some pictures of the hunt. Interesting treestand I wasn't about to get in. Waiting on a decent buck I saw chasing a couple doe while I was on the ground. Not a bad rub for a Whitetail. Meat wrapped and in the freezer getting ready for the trip to NM. I really enjoy hunting these deer, and there is no shortage of them. On the way to the airport I saw about a dozen dead deer along the road, with at least that many more standing on the shoulders waiting their turn with the traffic. I can't wait to return, I still have a buck tag that is good through the end of January, and could probably pick up a few more antlerless tags if the chance arises to get back. --Bill -
Another real nice Whitetail taken with a bow. Good job, and thanks for sharing with us. --Bill

That is an awesome buck congratulations, I hope to be able to walk up on one like that someday. --Bill

We hunted the southeast part of PA just north of Philly in Berks county. The weather was perfect, cold nights, cold mornings and clear skies. --Bill -
