This brings a whole new meaning to being "Thumped in the Melon"!
WFGinNM replied to Sir Buckwheat's topic in The Campfire
CRUNCH!!!!! I guess you can add that to the list of "How to Eat a Watermelon", or "How Not to Eat a Watermelon". --Bill -
Holy...... Been down here in Phoenix with my Wife for a few days, and it must be like a Brazillion degrees. This heat is just unreal, the low is WAY above the high at home. I guess I wouldn't notice if I was out glassing Coues'. I do like it here, Cabela's and Bass Pro in the same day (and it wasn't my idea, she is good to me). Take care, --Bill

That is an excellent Blacktail. I need to start researching to hunt the Columbia deer, that will finish my Deer Slam. Good job, --Bill

I don't know if this is right or not but, I'm thinking that the diameter of the 30 lb mono may have left gaps for the thinner braid to get bound into. I use Fireline on my walleye rigs but use flyline backing or squidding line instead of mono for the backing. When I lived back east we would back all of our ocean rods with squidding line before spooling mono. Sounds like you where experiencing something similar to when a levelwind or baitcasting reel backlashes. It might be worth trying the squidding line. Hope this helps, --Bill

Yes sir... that is the Hard Way, Lion Buck! And the new "Semi-Sneak Wall Ped" form in Dale's (Heather's) post will soon have Colton's 100"er from January on it! We have piling 100"ers on Dale and Heather for almost a year now... and as thefinished mounts start to come home from their shop the smiles and nods are the proof that Dale is doing a GREAT job on them! 0 Bill, Sorry for the hi-jack!! Not a problem Gino, I'll take all the Coues' info I can get. All great posts, keep the ideas coming. I also love looking at WildHeritageTaxidermy's work in progress. Real good knowledge to be had. Thanks, --Bill

Which pose do you prefer and why? Looking for input. Thanks, --Bill

That is great, Congratulations. --Bill

Tommy, I completely see what you are saying, and don't think that you were putting too much tought into it. I sit in different rooms of the house trying to picture how heads will look in relationship with everything else also (the Wife just shakes her head at me) . I will probably mock up a mannikin that I can rotate left and right to see which side I would prefer forward. I'm not opposed to a right turn at all, I was actually thinking of getting a left and right. Mounting the antlers, place it on the wall and see which I like better before I proceed with the mount. --Bill

"By the time I retire I will have more money in mounts than in my house." That's not a bad thing is it?? I moved most of my "stuff" up to my cabin so I can start reloading the house in town again. --Bill

Good information, I hadn't thought about the Coues' being so small that a full sneak would look somewhat like a neck mount. I can see it though. Thanks, --Bill

Tommy, Too much thought??? Not a chance. I recently completed a Sitka Blacktail I killed in '07 and mounted him upright with a right turn. I wanted to do something different with the Coues', when I shot him he was semi-sneak slight left and that is kind of what I'm leaning towards. But, his stronger side is his left side. I'm thinking it might pronounce it more with a lighter wall color behind it than having it towards the room (like in the picture). I don't know? Gino & Bryce Canyon, Thanks for posting the pictures, and link, always helpful trying to picture the poses. Thanks, and keep the ideas coming, --Bill

Thanks for the input. I'm getting closer to mounting the Coues' I killed in '08 and need to decide on a pose, this helps. --Bill

Excellent, and always cool to find big predator remains. --Bill

Should I send you a PM or just post it here? --Bill

Hope you have a great day Clay. --Bill

Here is a real good link on the topic of "Bugs". http://www.bowsite.com/bowsite/features/articles/bugs/. I removed all of the turkey tails from my house and cabin, they really like birds. --Bill

Just bring a dozen or so tortillas, some cheese, a can of beans and eat it there. -Bill

Tommy, I don't want to pirate Vinny's thread, but if you feel like hauling your boat up to Abiquiu, I can direct you to some walleye. I don't do much silver carp fishing . --Bill -
Hope you have a great day. --Bill

That is excellent Vinny, love the big smiles . Your Boys are going to have lots of great memories. Thanks for sharing, --Bill -
Excellent. Shed hunting with the kids is a blast, memories they will never forget. I still have the first shed I ever saw, my Dad picked up a little whitetail fork while we were hunting in Massachusetts when I was about 15 and gave it to me. --Bill

Finally got around to taking a picture of the sheds from this spring. Found 66 and only kept 32, too far to pack some of the whites. Now I can start chopping them. All the sheds I packed out. Just the Fresh Browns. --Bill

Wow, that's a bunch of fish cutting. Good job --Bill
