My apologies if that’s how I came across. To be honest, I’m a young healthy guy, I wasn’t a mask wearer, wasn’t too worried about it. But as we started seeing the severity of this disease at work, and the data started to come out, I educated myself on it by talking to the people with the most first hand experience with treating COVID. Fact is, most people will recover especially younger people, but also for a decent portion of the population this has a pretty high chance of being life threatening. Also it’s now become very clear how we could each choose to do our part to lower unnecessary deaths from this. I wasn’t trying to blame “you” for killing people, but I think the anti mask mindset as a whole will and is contributing to the spread and subsequent deaths. And I’m not sure where people are getting this idea that the hospitals are empty...we’ve seen a very significant increase in serious COVID patients, especially the last week or 2.One Frustrated doctor said to me “it’s like the younger people are saying ‘thanks for winning world war 2, the Cold War, and building up our country, but now it’s time to cull the herd’”... there’s something wrong with that.

Fair enough. I was just using the mortality rate that was thrown out... but if every single person had COVID in the us, at a .03 mortality rate, that would be a little over 98,000 deaths. So it’s clear that the mortality is much much higher then that. Let’s say on the extreme high end of your argument, 25% of the us has had it like in NY, that would put us at .14 mortality rate.taking the average of the antibody studies that I read,we are probably more around 3-5% community infection as a country, maybe less.So even on the optimistic side we are likely lookin at a mortality rate around .5-.7 , no politics just strictly looking at the numbers.

Listen I know we don’t see eye to eye on this. But we are on the same side here and I just want the best for my loved ones, as well as yours. I’m hearing what you have to say, and if I squint real hard I can understand your point of view, even though I don’t agree. All I ask is you consider what I’m saying as well and think about it. becoming polarized to either side doesn’t help anybody.
-
I did the math. If half the us got COVID at that “low” .5 mortality rate, it’s only 8.225 million deaths. Very similar to the 65,000 deaths by flu...
-
That’s a totally different argument to be had. I don’t like the idea of a shutdown like we did, but that means people have to take some personal responsibility for helping protect each other. What’s .5% of the us population anyway? Seems small, but that’s an astronomical number even if only 50% catch it

That gives me a good idea. Let’s outlaw masks, then you can prove your political point by doing the right thing to help our own and wearing a mask!
-
No I think you need to open your eyes. Your argument makes zero sense. Yes people die, but for example saying people die of car accidents... do you advise your loved ones to wear a seat belt so that their chances of death are reduced in the event they’re involved in an accident (like the common sense of wearing a mask to help prevent COVID)... or do you practice what you preach and rip all the seatbelts out of the car because even though they will help keep you alive, the government has told you you have to wear them? That’s a law too, isnt that taking your freedom away? Willing to remove those seatbelts at the expense of the safety of everyone else who rides in your car? i don’t care what if the government made masks mandatory, or outlawed them. Look past that part. screw the politics!let’s pretend that maybe all the doctors, nurses, frontline workers, virologists, and epidemiologists know what needs to be done despite what you in all your wisdom think. the simple act of wearing a mask 100% helps prevent at least some spread of COVID. Indisputable except under profound ignorance. That translates into less unnecessary deaths. Maybe it’ll save your loved one. I’m willing to protect your vulnerable loved ones, why aren’t you?
-
I don’t get it. People should WANT to do the right thing and protect the elderly or vulnerable. You better believe that if this virus was killing the young, the vast majority of older people would do ANYTHING they could to protect us. And in this younger, self centered generation, we as a whole can’t even wear a stupid mask to protect them. the WORST case scenario is that masks only help prevent the spread of this virus a little bit. If we could prevent the spread by each infected person by about 1/6, thiS pandemic would be slowing rather then exponentially growing. its easy to act macho, or buy into the myth that this pandemic is some political ploy until it’s your loved one that doesn’t make it. And the way things are going, most people will probably lose someone they care about to this. We have. And a good number of those could be prevented by slowing the spread by wearing a stupid mask. It’s not that hard. All we have to do is swallow our pride, stop politicizing this pandemic and Follow some VERY simple but effective common sense practices to protect our own.

Wuhan 3869 deaths ( plus whatever China hasn’t told us,probably a lot.) NYC 13,600 deaths. ....200x? there is ALWAYS a political angle in everything. I just don’t think this is a conspiracy to take our rights. rights stepped on? Yes probably. Should we be concerned about it? Yes for sure. Is this a big conspiracy to take our rights? No I don’t believe so, at this point.
-
I’m not assuming my opinion is the correct one. It’s just my opinion, and there are a lot of people that can’t handle an opinion that’s different then their own. I share the same concerns as you and others on here. I just don’t think that’s what’s happening. I also don’t blame you for feeling the way you do about it. I agree with the free market system, and that there are better ways to deal with what’s going on.heck I agree with most of what’s been said. I just don’t think it’s a big conspiracy to take our rights away.
-
For example. I read coach’s post. Well written, well founded concerns that I share. Truly something that I agree we should be concerned about. Something to really think about. but my opinion is that I don’t think this is a conspiracy theory to take our rights away. I think the government is trying to react to a pandemic unlike anything anybody alive has ever seen, and keep this from being absolutely catastrophic. my view on this could change as more information comes out. I’m not entrenched in this view. I’m open minded enough to let the evidence guide my opinion. We still know so little. But this definitely isn’t just another flu, I can tell you that from what I’ve seen personally.

I do not think people should be getting arrested etc Darryl! I think people should want to do the right thing to get everyone through this pandemic! not doing our part is no different then if the country refused to mobilize to supply our forces during ww2. No different.
