Just recently bought some 15x56 slc hds, and I'm looking into some 8x42 to carry around my neck and for close scanning. I'm looking for a mid to low range pair for now, $400 tops. I've had vipers in 12x and I liked them, didn't love them but I can get new 8x for $350. I've thought about some cabelas intensity too,but that would be a total shot in the dark. Didn't like the zeiss terra. Any other suggestions in my price range? Must be tripod mountable as well. no, i can't save for swaros this year. Good warranty is a huge plus. Thanks in advance!

Yeah I might try some 8x42 intensity, seems like a low risk buy. From what I've read, they should at least be better then diamondbacks
-
You have the intensity red sparky? Or has anyone looked through them?

I just upgraded to swaro 15x56s and my vortex ssp handled my 12x's fine, but is just too shaky with any breeze with the 15s. So I thought I'd ask, what tripod do you guys use? I backpack hunt,so weight is a big consideration. I'm looking for 1)dosent vibrate, even in decent wind 2) weighs as little as possible 3)obviously,the less costly the better, hopefully in the $250 or less range.... I'm looking forward to some great suggestions from people who hunt like I do. Thanks in advance!

With the eldx and a vais brake on mine it barely kicks at all.... I don't know the numbers on it,but to me,the felt recoil is less then half of my much heavier .270 rifle. Great shooting rifle too,by the way!

backpacking tents.... what are you guys using?
dustin25 replied to 1denogean's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I've been using a kelty salida the last couple years. I'm sure it's not as high tech as some more expensive tents, but I think I paid around $100 for it. I can attest for it being able to stand up to harsh weather, and it breathed well during the October hunt last year when it was 95 out. Also, it is as light as most comparable tents regardless of price, which was a big deal to me.I believe it weighs 4 lbs how I have it. Gotta say, great tent especially if you're on a budget.I'd buy it again. -
St Mary's was a solid team, played very well as a unit. If they had anywhere near the talent arizona has they would've won that game. Tough game!

How do the manfrotto 190/290 c.f. handle stiff breeze?
-
It's the legs that shake
-
I completely agree greyghost, but I think it would be worth us moving our cams for the greater good of guides not dominating those areas as much
-
I like the idea of no cameras on water and limiting number of cameras per person. I personally feel like the way a lot of guides/outfitters hunt, with a hundred trail cams and even more glassers spread out looking for bucks for clients is one of the biggest scourges we have to us who do it ourselves.im not anti guide, just don't like how some guides make it made more of a buck finding production then what I consider hunting. Just my opinion, can't blame them for satisfying the demand to make money.

It's all in the title... ready to make the big leap! heck even got the ok from the wife somehow.if you have some, send me a pm and hopefully we can work something out. Thanks!

I have the ruger american predator in 6.5 from the other thread.I have a viper pst on mine and it shoots great. I was also the guy that floated my barrel before I shot it, dosent take a rocket scientist to know that the barrel shouldn't touch the stock. II don't know why he says it looks like mice gnawed on it, mine you'd never even know I did anything to it by looking at it. 1/2" dowel and sandpaper did the trick. Not saying this is the greatest rifle ever, but for its price it may well be
-
True, but once I did it shoots great, and like I said it was very easy to open it up. Just don't wanna see such an easy fix deter people from the best shooting sub $1000 rifle I've ever owned
-
You watched the video of the kid shooting 1800 yards on YouTube I have no idea what you're talking about or if that's some kind of jab I don't understand. But I do know that the barrel needed free floated to shoot consistently so that's what I did.
-
The trigger on my predator adjusted down to 3 lbs and feels good to me. And no I didn't shoot the rifle before messing with the stock, i could see it needed sanded down in order to stay free floated so I just did it.

I recently bought a ruger American predator in the 6.5.I put decent scope and rings on it , opened up the barrel channel so it would stay free floated on a bipod ( 30 minutes with a dowel and sand paper), put bipod and brake on it, and it shoots .75 moa or better groups consistently with factory ammo. Maybe I got lucky, but I know guys that have the same rifle with similar results. This rifle is a shooter! 350 for rifle, about 900 total is what I have into it.and it weighs about 8 pounds and barely recoil at all. Just food for thought, i am a savage guy as well.good luck with your search, 6.5 cm is a great round

Cool got two ordered, that's a great deal.thanks fellas
