Anyone have a Cooper rifle in 6.5x284? Looking for best grouping ammo
Big Browns replied to az300wby's topic in Long Range Shooting
Nice Rifle! What did your wife say when you had to re-finance the house to get one:) When I suggested it I got the nastiest look ever, and not a good nasty:) What scope did you put on it? Adam -
First or Second Focal Plane Scope?

Thanks for setting me straight guys. Apparently I was completely wrong. Good for me, because a second focal plane scope is cheaper:) -
First or Second Focal Plane Scope?
Big Browns replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I thought second focal scopes point of impact only stays the same if you keep the magnification setting on whaterver setting you sighted the gun in at. My Vortex Viper 6-20x50 impact does change depending on magnification. I have the scope sighted in on max power, when I try to shoot the same target at a lower magnification setting the point of impact changes. -
Load Data for S&W AR-15
Big Browns replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks guys, I will try some of these out this weekend. -
My dad recently bought a S&W AR-15. I loaded him a few different loads with Sierra's and Hornady 52-55 grain with 24.5-25.5 of winchester 748. So far none of these loads have performed well at 50-100 yards. I was wondering if any of you guys have had any luck working loads for this gun. It's a 1-8 twist. Any suggestions. I'm planning on trying some 69 grain sierra's this weekend. The same loads shoot 1/2 moa out of my DPMS. Adam

My two son's would like a long board (long skate board), but they are really expensive. I refuse to spend a couple hundred dollors on something that they probably wont use after a week. If any of you guys have one or two that you would like to sell or trade please let me know. I would prefer to trade reloaded 223, 9mm or 45 acp! Adam

Load Data for S&W AR-15
Big Browns replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have also had really good luck with 24.5 grains of H335 with a V-Max. I'm going to try that same load this weekend in my dad's gun. I have a feeling that his gun is going to like heavier bullets. -
+1, after that hunt is finished I would like to go to the resort. Best of both world's!

For some weird reason I want to buy a Russian Nagant. I really have no good reason other than " I want one ". If you have one for sale or trade please let me know. Adam

Arizona Prairie dog hunting
Big Browns posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I'm thinking about taking my sons to Seligman for some Prairie dog fun. I've never hunted them before, but it looks like fun. Anyone hunted Arizona Prairie dogs before? What are the season dates? Adam -
Good Luck! They are very hard to find right now! You can find 50-52 grain Sierra's at Bruno's, but they are starting to get harder to find. Best bet is to get on several notification list's on several web sites. That way you will be notified as soon as they come back in stock. If you find a bunch or a deal on a bulk order let me know. I might be willing to go in on the order with you. Adam

Has anyone had any luck shooting 40 grain bullets out of a 16 inch barrel and 1-9 twist? Thanks!

I'm trying to decide on a scope as well. I've been debating on the Huskemaw and the Vortex Viper PST! I feel both scopes would work just fine for what I need. The Vortex is less than the Huskemaw. My concern with the Huskemaw is the warranty. If the scope brakes in a few years would Huskemaw still be around and would they honor the scope repair. Vortex will probably be around for a long time. We all know they have one of the best warranties in the industry. Huskemaw is only a 20 power scope. The Vortex is 25 power. I do really like the Huskemaw's wind marks on the turret. I know they work well and can be very useful. When you add them up, the Vortex wins most of the time. Swarovski, Zeiss, Nightforce are amazing scopes, but I don't have that type of money to put into a scope at this time. For the money the Vortex is the best value on the market, in my opinion!
