    Never gave up!

    Great job! Congrats!
  2. Last weekend was one of those memorable hunts that will always stay with you. Unit 32 has been good to us over the past couple of years and this year was even better. My dad and I were able to spend another few days hunting together. For those of you who have the opportunity to hunt w/ your aging fathers, you know that their time of hiking/packing/hunting hard, is dwindling. This guy ALWAYS gets it done, given the chance. In all of my 35+ yrs of hunting along side of him, I don't think I ever recall him NOT hitting his mark. He's an outdoor guy that lives to hunt and hunts to live. He works hard and doesn't get a lot of time in the field, but when he does he makes it count. We were able to get up to the unit about 4:30am on Thurs. and sleep in the car for about an hour before unloading the quads to do a little scouting. We got word from some hunters who were on their last day of a coues hunt, that the previous weekend a bachelor herd of (3) mulies (3-pt and 2 forks) were handing out in this one area. It happened to be an area that we were going to scout anyway, so it gave us some confidence. I was a little stressed not being able to scout until the day before the hunt, having spent most of my scouting time, on my (2) girls youth hunt. Long story short, we glassed up this heard opening morning about 7:15am at about 300 yds, walking away from us over a ridge. They saw us and didn't bolt, but started walking at a good clip. We figured a way to get past the next few ridges and cut them off about 1/2 mile away. We were able to put a sweet stalk on them and sneak up on them to about 100 yrds in a cross-canyon shot. My dad and I both squeezed off rounds about the same time and were blessed to harvest these great looking bucks! (great for us anyway) We were blessed to be in the right place at the right time. Even made it home in time for Halloween and w/ some decorations!

    Flying southwest with Rifle

My buddy just got back from an antelope hunt in Wyoming and flew Southwest. He had a larger rectangular gun case (not sure the size) and they didn't say anything about the size. It counted as one of his (2) free bags. He didn't have a "TSA" lock, just a regular key lock. He had to check it in, inside. He opened it up for them so they could put an little inspection card in it. He relocked it and then took it to another special counter and put it on the belt to be loaded. He said it was super easy. Ammo went in the case w/ the rifle. They didn't say he had to but be pulled the bolt out and laid it separately in the case. Hope this helps.

    Jackpot!

CC got hit this morning twice. Once for me and again for my girls and their youth hunt. After a couple of long years of them putting in, they finally got drawn for elk and deer in the same year! Excited to take them out this fall. Should be a lot of fun!
  7. I know I'm late to the party but thought I might share a little of my recent experience. Like everyone else, I too agree that the Hunter's Ed. course should be required and is very valuable. I have had major issues over the past couple of years trying to schedule a course for my daughters (14 & 12 yrs. old) to attend. Due to prior commitments on the weekends, Sat. and Sun. were very difficult for our family to attend both days. This year they just opened up a new option at Bass Pro Shop in Mesa that we attended. It was a Wed.-Fri. 5:00pm-8:30pm (usually got out a littler early) and then the field class was all day on Sat. This worked perfect for us. The main instructor was Bill Willison and he did a phenomenal job. I wasn't sure I was able to make all the classes w/ my girls so I didn't sign up for it. But things changed and when I got there on Wed. I asked if I could sign up and attend (b/c I wanted the Hunter Ed. point for the draw - I from out of state and AZ doesn't recognize out of state Hunter's Ed. classes). They said I could and I'm glad I did. I learned a lot in the class! There were a lot of dads in the class that thought they knew all the answers and many times they were wrong. The other benefit to attending the class (compared to the on-line course) is that they basically tell you what to highlight/mark for test purposes. They give you enough breaks and if you brings snacks/food, it hopefully won't be too bad for your boys. It goes pretty quick. I was going to do the on-line course but glad this option came up. Good luck.
  8. I got sick and tired of my girls not getting drawn for youth hunts so I decided to put them in for an adult hunt that I felt had better odds . . . . . and Bam - they got drawn! I put them in w/ my dad and I so we'll have 3 generations of hunters together for a late cow hunt in unit 6B. Excited that they'll finally get to hunt!

    cards are being hit

Is the consensus that the draw's pretty much over or was last week mainly the bonus point round and it'll continue today/tomorrow? I put in for 32 and have gotten drawn the last two years. Going to be bummed if I don't get it.

    Draw

This is exactly what happen w/ me. I ended up calling yesterday and they said that they have my application and everything's good w/ it. Not sure why I didn't get the "update your cc" email like I have in years past. Crossin' my fingers!

    Draw

Fish and Game hit my credit card for the draw application back in the beginning of June but I haven't received an email yet to update my credit card info. Do the emails go out all at once or over a period of a few days?

    Any youth drawn yet?

Any youth get drawn yet for the youth hunts? I just got a cc hit for adult tags but wondered if the youth have been starting to get drawn.
