I can certainly believe that. I have seen bucks earlier in the year, that were nowhere to be found during the late archery hunt.

Holy smokes...... That one on the left is HUGE! When were those pics taken?

That is a huge bummer. Hope you get your rifle back.

A little humor I read about George Jones. George was very fond of hard booze. His wife used to hide his car keys so he couldn't go buy any. One day when she was gone, and he had no car keys, he jumped on his riding lawn mower and drove eight miles to the liquor store. took about 3 hours round trip.

A longshot...... Oklahoma Lawmakers Introduce ‘AMMO Act’ to Prevent Feds from Stockpiling Ammo 4/30/13 | by S.H. Blannelberry Worried that the feds are purposely hoarding ammo which is consequently leading to shortages in the marketplace, two Oklahoma lawmakers introduced a bill last Friday that would place sensible limits on the amount of ammunition the Obama administration is allowed to purchase on a biannual basis. The AMMO Act, which stands for Ammunition Management for More Obtainability, is the brainchild of U.S. Sen. Jim Inohfe (R-OK) and Congressman Frank Lucas (R-OK) and it would specifically “restrict agencies from obtaining additional ammunition for a six-month period if current agency stockpiles are higher than its monthly averages prior to the Obama Administration.” According to the bill, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) would keep tabs on the ammo being purchased and stockpiled by the government and weigh that against the relative supply of ammo available to the public. However, the Dept. of Defense would not be included in the evaluation and would be free to purchase ammo, unchecked. “President Obama has been adamant about curbing law-abiding Americans’ access and opportunities to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” said Inhofe, in a press release. “One way the Obama Administration is able to do this is by limiting what’s available in the market with federal agencies purchasing unnecessary stockpiles of ammunition. As the public learned in a House committee hearing this week, the Department of Homeland Security has two years worth of ammo on hand and allots nearly 1,000 more rounds of ammunition for DHS officers than is used on average by our Army officers,” he continued. “The AMMO Act of 2013 will enforce transparency and accountability of federal agencies’ ammunition supply while also protecting law-abiding citizens access to these resources,” Inhofe concluded. -
Agree. I was really surprised on that unit 27, 12% success. I thought it would be in the 50% range, at least?

Nobody is questioning the federal need for ammo. The exponential increase in ammo purchases in such a short time frame is highly suspect, as well as the collateral effects of these purchases on the private citizens. -

I am sure it's about money. That's why they are in business. I am not sure how the contracts are setup, but I do know that the manufacturers are required to supply a certain percentage of their production to fulfill Government orders, at any given time. With the Fed's purchasing 1 billion plus rounds over 5 years, that puts a huge demand on the production, which in turn creates shortages, in brass, bullets, powder, primers etc, Add the private consumer demand into the mix, and here we are. If the ammo makers are geared up for producing 9mm,.40 S&W, and .45 acp. .223. and 7.62 it will aslo create a shortage of less popular ammo because they have their production lines setup for these main cailbers for Federal orders, and spending less time manufacturing others.? Just my thought. It's like automobiles. If the feds wanted to keep us from driving, all they have to do is control the fuel supply. When Obama was gettting elected the first time, remember the flurry of ammo sales over the rumor of a severe tax hike on ammo. There's good coverage of this story, by the way, at: http://www.prisonplanet.com/dhs-to-purchase-another-750-million-round... As you can see for yourself, this DHS contract requests huge quantities of all the following ammunition (and much more): • Over one million rounds of hollow-point .223 rifle ammo • Over half a million rounds of non-hollow-point .223 rifle ammo • 220,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #7 ammo (target ammo) • Over 200,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun #00 buckshot ammo (tactical anti-personnel ammo) • 66,000 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun slugs (tactical anti-personnel, anti-vehicle rounds) • Over two million rounds of hollow-point .357 Sig JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel) • Over four million rounds of .40 S&W JPH (hollow-point) pistol ammo (anti-personnel) • Over 60,000 rounds of .308 match grade anti-personnel sniper rounds (BTHP) • Plus, hundreds of thousands of additional rounds of .38 special, .45 auto, 9mm, 7.62x39 (AK rifle) ammo, and others. This is on top of the massive 450 million .40 S&W hollow point rounds the DHS has already requisitioned Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/036802_DHS_ammunition_shooting_war.html#ixzz2S3bK7vx6 -

They probably have standing contracts to provide the feds with ammo. If they break the contracts, they get sued. Federal orders come before all others. Thats why the feds can tie up the ammo production -

Probably because of iron clad contracts the Feds have put in place? -

I only mentioned his past, when someone decided to insult me. But yes, the song is a classic country hit, from the "good ole days" of country. Every time I hear it, I want to cry in my beer

There is the big RV park at Hon-dah. Casino across the road, and fishing in every direction. It's not cheap or low key, but has amenities. http://www.hon-dah.com/rv_park.html

Like Momma used to say, TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE. Excuse me if I don't add a Smiley Face. I don't have a Momma. Me and my Daddy shared yours .Excuse me if I dont add a raspberry face George Jones was a drug using, womanizing, wife beating, alcoholic, Pretty ironic that you would stick up for this guy. Huh???? Umm, the original post was ONLY recognizing a good ol' classic country song. Maybe next time just ignore the post and your personal judgement of his life, as opposed to hi-jacking the thread.... Good song, IMO. S. I didn't hijack anything. Do any of you remember George Jones singing the "A-hole song" I think some of you are quick to jump on someone who is only kidding around.

It was a big hit for GJ .........even if he was an A-hole.

The deer say you hardly ever see people out here until August, then "POOF: their everywhere! I am not sure about that. Those deer see groups of dark haired people sneeking throught the brush everyday.
-
You will see plenty...right up until hunting season. Then "POOF" the bucks will vanish. Deer have a built in calender. Tells them when hunting season starts.

But in that rig you have, gas will be less than what it cost me pulling my camper

The back way up Highway 191 is a nice drive

Is that the hunt over by Lewistown? I have driven back and forth to Montana a handful of times, but mostly working for the summer. It will cost you $400 in fuel one way approx. and about 20 hours drive time or more approx. It take me 2 days to get there pulling my smaller 5th wheel. Going through Salt Lake Traffic, is always a white knuckle affair. Billings is the closest major airport to that unit, I think? As far as meat, you can always donate a bunch to the Hunters for the hungry program? Local butchers will know how to help. If it was me, and i had the time, I would drive. You can bring whatever you want, don't have to rent a vehicle, or rely on anyone else.

Looking forward to some deer hunting this fall. Woot...Woot ...
