Paloma and Providencia Canyon's are decent, rough country, but I helped my wife's cousin take one out of there 2 years ago. Spend some time behind the binoculars in those canyons and you should find a decent buck or two.

Way to go! Where did you get him.?

The meat would have spoiled quickly, but maybe the head is retreivable? Glad to hear you put in the effort to find him, some people won't. Unfortunately game is sometimes lost, its never a sure thing. Good luck!

Likewise!

You have to be a registered tribal member, or be married to one to qualify!

We ride quads back in there, as it is a designated ohv area, and it is real sad to see all of that. I am sure the Forest Service will pimp themselves out for the money and allow the mine. Thats a beautiful piece of country back in there and it will be lost forever.

What is that old saying " its better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6". I always carry, wherever I may roam.

I am with Sundevils on what he said. I have hunted unit 27 for 30 years and have seen the decline in deer numbers. Permits used to be easy to get but for the last 10-12 years they have been tough to draw for me. I got drawn this year for the October whitetail hunt and am looking forward to that hunt. There are still quality deer to be found if you put in the legwork. You may consider checking out the recent burn areas north of Rose peak. With the rains I bet that new shoots are growing and the deer and elk are in there for some of that gourmet feed. I was going to go up this weekend, but I have to get my truck repaired, so I will be going up the following weekend instead. This bear is from last year Unit 27.

Lets hear about your close calls
Snapshot replied to IHunt2live's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
No close calls for me for the early hunt. 3 months ago I lost a third of my left thumb in an accident and the doctor told me it would be 6 months before I would come close to using it even slightly. Well long story short, I have gotten to hold my bow and take some practice shots, however, I was drawn for a rifle hunt that I have waited 5 years to get and I didn't want to be tempted to shoot one during the early bowhunt as I am really looking forward to October and don't want to waste that tag. It is exciting to see pictures of the great bucks being taken by the fellow CWT members and all the good stories. -
Stuck bullet in a 300 mag
Snapshot replied to seek100plus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I probably wouldn't pound on it anymore because the bullet is being driven into the case and compressing the powder and probably just making the case tighter, and much more dangerous. Maybe take it in and have the barrel removed if a gunsmith is willing to do it. -
Stuck bullet in a 300 mag
Snapshot replied to seek100plus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If the bullet was seated all the way in with the bolt closed you could have taken it out to the desert and fired it, if there was no danger of an exploding case, and then run a long dowel into the case through the end of the barrel and tap it out. But since the live round has been pounded on from the inside of the barrel the bullet could be damaged and it would be extremely dangerous to try and clear it by live firing it at this point. Don't know what to say except maybe contact a pro if you can't get it out. Good Luck. -

What do you think this might be?
Snapshot replied to Eagle Eye's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Not sure. -
Type in the keywords "Boone and Crockett score sheets" and you can download copies from various websites for practice scoring also.

Your killin me! , Nice buck, Way to go.

Well said Bill. I feel the same way. I hunt to enjoy my time in the mountains and get away from civilization and re-energize the soul. A trophy is nice if the opporunity presents itself, but the hunt is not lost without one.

I am no proffesional but if it looks good I shoot it. Otherwise I go by what I learned in Duane Adams Coues Whitetail book on field judging.
