We could use some rain down here in Southern AZ, the wind was outrageous today.

Thanks for all the advice and links. I read all the link info, and everything I read so far is that the downside is unreliable gps coverage and lack of confirmation of signals sent and received by those it is being sent to. I am going to do some more research on the Personal Locator Beacons as well. I like the price and simplicity of the spot, but price is not as much of a concern as reliability. Some of the steep canyons I hunt will not pickup GPS unless you have at least 2-3 satlellites overhead, and that is random at best, but that is a limting factor with any satellite coverage. Maybe a satellite phone might be the way to go? If you are wounded and can at least talk, but if you break a neck or are unconsious then I guess it wouldn't matter anyway. I am looking at the Bushnell Onix 400 as well for the GPS end of things, my old Garmin is 13 years old and not that great.

COUES WHERE YOU CAN'T HUNT 'EM
Snapshot replied to BELLOTABUCKS's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I say we get all the boys together and try something like the infamous Kaibab deer drive and push all them big bucks out of the park -
Thanks for the input ! I will find as many reviews as I can, as my main concern is its ability to transmit in deeper canyons, which can be tough even for GPS sometimes. It will be good for me to have and it will make my wife happy knowing that I have the ability to press a button for help or send an o.k message. I need to slow down and spend more time glassing instead of charging up and over as many mountains as I can but just in case this unit or a locator beacon would be nice.

COUES WHERE YOU CAN'T HUNT 'EM
Snapshot replied to BELLOTABUCKS's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Yep, there are huge bucks in there that just die of old age, or Mt. Lion food. -
I just saw a show called "Best of the West" the guy dropped a mule deer with one shot at 625 yds, with a Remington hunter shooting system with a Huskemwa longe range scope. He also just dropped an elk at 810 yds, and absolutely hammered a big black bear at 425 yds. One of the guys is a bench rest champion shooter, and one of the things they preach is the limitations of the shooter. They are plugging a video called " how to shoot beyond belief " order online at www.thebestofthewest.net

Nice fish. I have never actually gone stripper fishing before, I think I will have to give it a try one of these days.

Yes sir ! Nothing like a brand new set of shoes for the cruiser.

Nice fish ! What lake where you at?

Good thing it happend at your house, those freeway blow outs are scary. Two years ago I was deer hunting and I had just setup the trailer and fired up the portable generator, and I heard a large bang, and I thought the generator blew up, but one of the tires on it had blown from being out in the sun and overheating, blew it right off the rim.

For those with sniper training. I might be able to make 950 with one of those .50 BMG's and a 24 power scope

I believe in the global warming theory, and I am way smarter than those 31,000 other guys.

In my original post I stated that I could not have a party out here until the later part of June, unfortunately my schedule is too hectic to do it any earlier than that.

Pick the best dates for the Tucson CWT party.

Who says the old guys taste bad.
Snapshot replied to bobbyo's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I thought Monica Liewinski wrote a book on tasty old meat ! -
I think it started out as Firstcoueswas80 was banned from CWT, and then Outdoor Writer was banned. It was a youtube type video of Hitler and his cronies talking close captioned type of plugin words. It was silly, but I voluntarily removed my comment based on it might be politically incorrect because of the Nazis?

Snapshot replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I am going to try and make it and meet some of you guys from up north, is it worth bringing the quad and a fishing pole? Is anyone going to be there on Friday night? -
My weekends are open after June 14th, I may try and get up to Flagstaff for that get together on the 21st?

The trails are large enough for the most part, but some areas are pretty rough and it may be hard to keep up, but you are welcome to try. -
OSAMA or OBAMA
Snapshot replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Pretty sad state of affairs for our country if Hillary and Obama are the best the democratic party has to offer. -
I think they should have laws allowing the humane killing of wounded animals, such as what you did with the cow elk, which is very commendible, I would have done the same.!

As long as I have not left for the academy, I will come over the night before and help set up. D. the riding and long range banging sounds good to me ( I swear as long as it doesnt have horns its in trouble, ask scout'm) A. She is 18 and graduating from High School, and guarded by large caliber weapons B. I prefer to drink Kool-aid when I ride C. You are welcome anytime D. It will probably be a warm ride, but there are some hornless jack rabbits out there. -
Moral fiber is something that comes from within. Last year I was bowhunting elk in New Mexico and I called in a nice 5 x 5 and he hung up at 70 yards and I could not get him to come in closer. There was 5 minutes of shooting light left and I had him broadside at 70 yards. I chose not to shoot. 70 yards is outside my accurate range and I won't take a shot over 50 yards on elk. I know guys that are very good at longe range archery shots, ( I am not one of them), I also know guys that are very good at long range rifle shots that practice religiously at 500-600 yards. I don't mean to sound philisophical, but common sense is just as important as ethics, knowing what our personal limitations are and when not to shoot. In my youth I took alot of shots that I shouldn't have, and wounded some animals, one of which suffered a great deal before I could dispatch it. I promised myself I would never do that to an animal again. You have all probably seen or heard some guys out in the field that will open fire at deer that are 600 yards out and they will reload their magazine twice while the deer is still running away or maybe dragging itself with a leg that has been blown off, or maybe the guts are hanging out.? Last season I heard a guy shoot 7 or 8 times, and I met up with him while he was riding his quad with a 60 lb. spike whitetail that was blasted to pieces lashed to the rack, a rifle still slung over his shoulder and a beer in the other hand, 9:00 a.m in the morning, this guy is the poster boy for the morally and legally unethical.

We can't have the party on June 14th as my wife and I are throwing a graduation party for my stepdaughter, unless we do it on Sunday the 15th? My weekends are pretty open after that. I was thinking that whatever weekend everyone decides on, anybody that wants to go on the quad ride could meet out here at 11:00-12:00 and we could ride out for a few hours, and return by 3:30 and have the main party starting at 4:00 p.m until the last man standing. There will be canopies setup along with table and chairs, coolers with ice, bbq, music, horseshoes, etc. We can start a campfire after the sun goes down TJhunt2 can be the official beer cooler guardian as long as you let me have one when I need it (frequently Casey - I know some good spots if any quad riders what to bang off a few rounds longrange, I will take everyone up to gunsight pass and you can view the entire area from up there. I have a sealed cargo box on my quad to hold ice and drinks. I will provide various side salads and dishes: potatoe salad, pasta salads, rice, beans, tortillas, chips and dips, seven layer dips, spinach dips, breads/rolls, condiments, etc. I will also have soda and water, everyone can bring whatever beer or other drinks that yo desire. Everyone can bring whatever main BBQ meat or fish that you desire along with any tasty side dish that you would like to share. I will let all of you decide what weekend works for everyone, it will just have to be after June 14th (sorry Casey). Lets work it out and have a great party ! -
For some reason (politically incorrectness)I better delete mine to, just kidding with Casey.
