The “Famous” Western Hunter Sleeping System
murfys69law replied to AmericanThunder's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Sportsman warehouse and buy an "Elkhunter" about $125.00 rated for -30..huge bag with lots of room and very very warm. Only bag I will ever use again. For $400 I could buy 3 Elkunters and sleep in Antarctica. Friends I know told me about it. we have slept right on a cot outside next to our trucks in cold weather and were warm as toast -
I agree redman. The animal he and his friends harvested illegally could've gone to someone else that pays his wages and money to help with conservation of these resources.

I have to agree with several of you on here. Not defending Wagner either. He broke the law with his friends and they shoulda been prosecuted. Our judicial system sucks throughout this country. If you have money or friends in high places you can get off with murder. There are some people doing more time in prison for tax evasion than some people are for murder. I remember a case a few years back where an confessed murderer told the detectives where the weapon was he used. They needed this to make the case stick. He told them OK."Off the record the weapon is in a lake" They found it but because he said "Off the record" he walked. 3 weeks later he murdered a young girl in her teens. If this is justice then I am Ben Franklin. Same applies here. Wagner broke the law with his friends and got off scott free because of a technicality. It's BS. Hope you sleep well now Criminal.

My point exactly. Why did they not prosecute him for what he did wrong in a separate trial?
-
The way I read this is the process for his investigation was not followed properly. The court ruled on that and he was awarded 100k for being treated unfairly. OK..fine. But the fact that he did violate G&F laws by giving his tag to someone and they killed the elk and tagged it still remains unlawful. Couldn't this have been handled separately. A law is a law and he broke it as well as others.

It amazes me that someone can join this great site Flagstaffer and his faithful buttbuddy HuntAZtoo and within 1 hour have so much negativity and be so rude to so many people. You were rude to Jay Scott, Desertbull, and ME and who knows who else has taken offense to your smart mouth and rude comments. Don't know who you are or even what you stand for, and I really don't care, but this is not what I feel CWT is about. I have learned a lot from some very great people here and you're not one of them. Go join another site where you can be an a$$ and they don't care. But as long as I'm here........I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR BS........if that's all you are going to do. Sincerely, Dan

Guess your right .I shoulda just ignored the moron.
-
Probably did. Either way, I don't need to read their derogatory comments. There are ways to speak and give your opinion without being such and A$$. The way I see it is Flagstaffer and HuntnAZtoo both made new accounts and just started bashing people. Sounds like they may be 13 or 14 years old is all.

Hunted 10 a few years back and talked to a rancher that was clearing huge areas of Juniper around his stock tanks and drainage's that feed his tanks. He said that the Juniper were just like a weed and suck up tons of water that helps keep the stock tanks and waterholes full. He said while we are out scouting just look at waterholes with lots of water and see how many Junipers are around it. True. Every waterhole that was low or drying up had Juniper everywhere and the ones without a lot were pretty full. Drought will def. make a difference too.

58 year resident here in AZ and had 4 elk tags.. very spread apart too. I have never seen a wallhanger during the hunt so ended up shooting a spike both times and 2 cows the other times. With what it takes to get a tag especially for a NR, I would not hesitate to hire a quality guide. I have thought about it myself...and trust me...I hunted my A$$ off during my bull hunts. It's not always that easy even with pre-scouting and friends helping. Now I am pushing 60 and it's harder to get out there and put a 10 mile hike in. A guide in my case may be the way to go if I ever want a quality bull. ......just saying

Yeah Desertbull...listen to what the newbie says......he's been a member here for going on 45 minutes now

5nRamirez...when it gets that bad I just tie my tackle box on my line, lower it down and let them pick what they want..JK

If you have a boat and wanna give me $100 an hour I will have all the patients in the world and you can fish for whatever you want and I will treat everyone with respect and tell jokes and hand you beer or soda and land your fish and cook it for ya'. I can show you all my secret spots and tell you what to use for lures, plastics, etc... LARK

Don't have any but i would suggest a Marlin 30/30 Should be able to pick one up fairly cheap and they shoot good.

Lets take the Big Bo ranch in unit 10 for example. It's private property and they own it. They do allow vehicles in certain areas and you can drive across their land to retrieve a downed animal . NO atvs, side by sides etc... allowed and that is their right. IT"S private. All hunters wishing to use this prime elk area obey these rights as they want to continue to hunt an area that has great elk. If they didn't they could stop all hunting completely. Granted, elkaholic owns a much smaller area, But IT"S private. He should be able to say who, when and where anyone can use it. If he follows the state law on providing access if needed then he is doing his part to follow the law. Why can't others do the same. IMO it is the hunter, backpacker or whomever is there to find out where and how he is able to use the land before just going into it and then finding out it's private. It's called do diligence. MO

This how a lot of us feel right now!!!!

Just happened to see this the other day and was amazed that Elk are getting this big. I understand as the story goes it was shot in 2010 in a high fenced, private area. This is one amazing Elk and anyone that saw this would have to agree. Absolutely a huge monster of and Elk. This bruiser scored 617. UNREAL!!! Eye guards are as long as any other part of this rack. With this said, I guess any hunter with these morals could go to a petting zoo and do the same thing. It is an awesome elk but fenced in, on private property doesn't give this animal any fair chase at all. The thrill of the kill doesn't justify the means for such a majestic animal as this.
