    Did that get deleted?

Isn't shooting a gun into water illegal? I have always heard it is. If not illegal definently a dumb thing to do. I know my PaPa or dad would have whipped my arz if I did that. Maybe that would be punishment enough. I may be mistaken.

Saw you had a post from last year at this time and didn't get drawn. This year you did and congrats. Are you in Utah? If so, why are you not hunting Elk there? I have heard that Utah has some great Elk hunting. Don't know what their system of draw is tho.

This is my Dad with me in Cameron, La. his home town. We were getting ready for the annual cattle roundup and branding. I was maybe 4 years old which makes this photo about 54 years old. I miss him more than you know. God bless ya "Pops". You were truly a great man.

camp entertainment with "the goat boys"

I happened to be there on this "Goat Boys" first outing. Had a great time watching these 2 butt heads...then watch them get into EVERYTHING..including the tent, rhino, food, etc... They curl up right by the fire after a tough day of hiking and playing. Great animals and they stay right by your side. Good job Chucky on the goats.

Well,,I said it in an earlier post about this draw. You will have 2 types of attitudes...1) there will be guys and girls dancing in the streets and... 2) there will be guys and girls kicking the dog....in this case it's kicking other hunters or their children. I am an AZ native of 58 years and I have seen the draw system change several times. Waited 23 years for Ant. tag, 12 years for an elk tag and was lucky enough to get one. Was I bitter because I hadn't draw? Yes. Did I say anything about others with less points getting a tag? No... Was I glad others drew tags? Yes... did I go help them? Yes... Was it a good time ? Yes.... Like papa used to say...you pays your money...you takes your chances... It's better to be quiet and thought a fool...then open your mouth and remove all doubt. Didn't get a TAG??? Take a kid fishing...

    Elk?

Apple and oranges..you can't compare other states to AZ...we are still 10 years behind every other place. It's the natures of the beast with AZ. BUT...if you do get a prime Elk tag here..chances are you will get a wall hanger. That's what makes it so fun.

    Elk?

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!! Having the eairly draw for Elk and Anlelope was one of the best things AZGFD has done. I'm not sure how many people put in but it has to be in the tens of thousands. Sometimes they screw up. Thats a lot of apps to process. We all make mistakes.

So here we go again waiting

I think we alll need to take a deep breath here. As soon as we know it will be 2 attitudes. Guys and girls dancing in the street or guys and girls kicking the dog cuz they didn't get drawn. And i'm buying a new dog today just in case...lark

    Game meat choice?

We are eating Pronghorn that has been properly cleaned and cooled rapidly, being very careful to not get dirt or fluids on the meat. It's very good when that happens. I hear people say how bad it is in WY, UT and MT all the time. It is a meat that spoils rapidly and is hinted in hot temps so has to be dealt with quick. Deer is much more tolerant of slower cooling, I think that's why mine was so wonderful. I had it quatered and on ice withing 1 hour. Best meat to this day I think.

Such a shame what shed hunting as come to

I totally beg to differ mattys281. Ignorance of the law is NOOO excuse!!!. There are people that shed hunt that don't even hunt. Many do however own a quad, rhino, polaris, bike etc... and there are NUMEROUS laws regarding the offroad use of these vehicles. My thoughts are, They don't give a dang and it will hurt the hunters or outdoorsman that are ethical and follow the law. Book em dano is what I say..NO EXCUSE for this to happen. I'm not trying to excuse anyone, I just don't think there's the sense of malice that others seem to think is there. I know too many people who naively think you can go out in the forest and basically do whatever you want. Especially people that are new to it. They think you can drive anywhere, camp any where, shoot anywhere, etc. I encountered a guy on a side by side a few years ago that was cruising down a closed logging road I'd walked down with his kid. They stopped to say good morning and ask if I'd seen anything. I chatted with them a little and politely explained that they'd crossed the wilderness boundary and were in big trouble if caught. They thanked me, turned around and left. Is that the rare case? Maybe. But he wasn't a lazy disrespectful slob, he was just ignorant about where he was. That I would say is the rare case Matt. My point is , If you buy a quad, side by side or any off road vehicle including jeeps and the like, IT IS your responibilty to yourself and others to learn, research, buy a map or even contact the appropriate parties ahead of time to find out what, where, when and how you can leagally go into the outdoors and do it without being in violation of the law. Anyone can plead stupidity but it doesn't excuse the fact that they are not following the law. Lake pleasant is a prime example. NO jet skiing areas that are closed MEANS. NO jet skiing! Because someone rode past the bouy that it was written on and says they didn't see it doesn't excuse the fact that it's prohibited. In the great words of Ron White......You can't fix stupid. Definition of DUE DILIGENCE. 1: the care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm to other persons or their property.

2014 Coues Deer Kill Distances Poll

Don't undedrstand the question SELDOM DRAWN. When does my hunt start. I agree it starts when I fill out an app. The adrenaline has already started with me and I bet a lot of other hunters. Just the chance to go into the field with a hard to get tag in AZ is enough to get my blood going. It's the promise of making another memory for me or another hunter I may have been drawn with. The opportunity to maybe see that once in a lifetime animal whether it be 1" or 1200yrds. I to shoot both archery and rifle. I have been lucky to kill with both and have found that the adrenaline is pumping either way. Maybe different with a bow as you are closer, but still exciting. I have killed at 500yrds plus and was so excited that I filled my tag but also I have the hunt memorized liked yesterday and the ardrenaline still wells up when I think about it.

In need of some Javelina recipes!!!

Sounds good! I am wanting to go the crock pot route. Any specific spices/ingredients/sauces you like to use or recommend? Bone out Javi. soak in ice/water and continue changing water and ice till water runs clear of blood. Put in crockpot with onions pepper and salt to taste. BUT also sprinkle thyme on it as well before cooking. This seems to take away some of the gamey/musky flavor if there is any. Cook until tender, usually over night. Add a cup of wildflower honey, and BBQ sauce of wanted. Sweet Baby Rays is the only sauce I use. I have used this recipe for years and it's not to bad. Tastes alot like BBQ pork and I have had others agree. GOOD LUCK
