Kid's first squirrel hunt
bgshooter posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I took the Thanksgiving week off from work and took my kids on their first squirrel hunt and they had a blast. Took some pics and thought I'd share. Here they are ready to start the hunt. My younger son (left) is holding my Marlin 60 and my older son (right) has his Crickett. My older son taking aim at the first squirrel we spotted. Unfortunately he missed and that squirrel lived to see another day. Here they are with the first kill of the day. My older son took a couple shots and missed but the little guy stuck around. He's a pretty good shot so I wondered if his Crickett's scope was off. I took the third shot and took it down. Now we know the rifle is fine and my son was missing due to being over excited. Our second kill and my older son was able to keep himself calm and got him with the first shot. Little bro was his cheering section and didn't take any shots that day. He's still working on his skills in the shooting range. Here's the remains of some animal we saw while driving around in the woods. And here's the final pic of the 3 we got that day. I took down the 3rd one with my Marlin. All in all it was a fun day and the kids can't wait for the next trip. -
I'm next in line...but I know I have a 0.0000001% chance .

Kid's first squirrel hunt

We had them as part of our thanksgiving meal and they turned out really good. I found a great recipe on YouTube. We were all shocked at how tender the meat was. I was the only one that took more than a couple bites because they're all still getting used to the idea of eating game meat. But the more we hunt, the more they'll get used to it. -
No lights this year for us. I don't mind since I hate taking them down. Maybe next year. Doesn't stop us from celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

Awesome lights. Merry Christmas to you and everyone here on CWT.

My 2200 came in the mail yesterday...1 day earlier than estimated. Looks like a dang good pack and it's bigger than I thought it would be. Can't wait to put it to use.

Great job on the hunt guys...

Thought the same thing...I'd return one of them and call it done...

Kids cots are sold. Thanks Travis! One of my sons are sleeping on one tonight. He couldn't wait to try it out.

Wow is right...I don't know if I can pass this one up. Will have to check with my lovely wife on an early Xmas gift for next year since I already got my early Xmas gift for this year...LOL

Late Dove Season

Went out as planned this evening. Brought home 8 doves. Shot 10 but lost 2 in some really thick bush. Hate losing them after they go down. -

What's the old saying? "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission." -
Can definitely relate. My young boys are in little league baseball and that always comes first. Good luck on the game and good luck on your hunt.

Congrats!

Welcome to the forum samuel2891. This is a great place to meet new hunters and get great advise. I may take you up on this offer as I'm a very novice hunter and am wanting to do some scouting for practice. I don't do archery but scouting is scouting. If I can find deer, that'll give me more confidence if\when I ever get drawn.

Very nice. I hope to do some duck hunting some day. Gotta find a friend that can show me the ropes

Good luck! Can't wait to hear the story...

Yep. My wife said "MERRY CHRISTMAS" when I told her I bought it. LOL. These are my first binos >$15. I'll use these and save up for better ones down the road. Should serve me well as I learn to scout for big game.

I'm on my second GT Mountainbike since ~2000. My first GT, I bought for ~$200. I had that bike until 2011 when I decided to get a new bike with disc brakes just because. So I sold it for $40 to a co-worker and bought a 2010 model that originally retailed for $800...I paid $400 for it so I thought I got a great deal. I plan on owning this bike longer than I owned the first one.
