FINALLY got my deer tag for 36B

Hey Guys we'll be there for the 11/6-12 hunt. I've never hunted the southern units before. Is there any problem camping in the unit? How about in the Buenos Aire NWF? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. My stepson, his father-in-law and myself are hunting Kaibab, 12A West this weekend. I'm leaving on Wednesday. We're all psyched!!

    Drew Kaibab

I drew a tag with Charlie and his father-in-law. Early hunt, 12A West. This is the first time I put in for Kaibab, I feel very luck. We cannot wait to get going!! Let the planning begin.

    Garmin Rino GPS

Hey fellow hunters. This years hunting purchase will include a GPS. I'm leaning towards the Garmin Rino 130. I've compared it to it's more expensive brother, the 530. The only real difference(s) I can find is: color screen (not important to me), expandable memory, rechargeable battery pack, greater radio distance. Does anybody have any other info to compare the two, and if it's important to hunting? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Who Drew What?

Hey Dave, my son's and I drew Unit 31 for the first time. Went scouting two weeks ago, very rugged terrain, gotto get in better shape. How crowded does it get there with 450 whitetail tags and 100 muley tags? We're also doing the Oct 6 bear hunt there. Can't wait.

    Unit 31

I haven't hunted in 25 years. I've never hunted the Coues Whitetail only the eastern Whitetail from upstate New York. Any tips for hunting this elusive game as well as any info on Unit 31? We've been drawn for 10/27-11/2. We're going scouting next week. Thanks

    Who's ready for bear?

The main thing with bears is they are where the food is! The best is when the Prickly Pears are ripe, the bears will be in them and are easier to glass up. Glassing for them in these food sources is I feel the best tactic, but if they seem to be in thicker country, a varmint call works as well. With varmint calling, always have a big backstop such as a tree so they don't get ya from behind! I feel it's best to be close in to where you think a bear might be and blow loud and long on the call. I've seen them stop and start to turn around as soon as you stop calling. Keep calling as long as you can if you feel there is probably a bear in the area, at least 45 mins. An electronic caller is best for this because a mouth blown call will wear you out fast. A jackrabbit tape/call or a fawn in distress work well but make sure the wind is blowing in your face no matter what, one whiff and a bear will swap ends as fast as an Elk! Best of luck to ya, JIM> Thanks for the input. We're hunting Unit 31 10/6. Has any body taken any bear in Unit 31? We were scouting last weekend and didn't see a thing (except whitetail).

    Unit 31

Thanks for the input. We went scouting this past weekend. Most of the 4 wheel drive access roads have been ripped apart from the amount of rain they've had. All of the washes are running fast with muddy water. We really will need a good pair of boots. Thanks for the input. We went scouting this past weekend.
