    Desert Forkie

I haven't shot anything over 170" I'd guess but I do have a 27" 5x5, couple decent 4x4's, and some decent 3x3 and 3x4's that I was lucky enough to take in the past. I guess for me seeing how I've already shot a 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5, it would be cool to take a 2x2 to finish the series off. If I get the chance, I'm probably going to take this buck. I'll post more pictures of him in October and let you guys see how he finishes up, as long as he keeps coming in. Thanks for the responses.

when did you shoot your first big game animal

My first buck will be tough to top. My dad and I cut his track one morning and I tracked him right to his bed. Made a 50 yard shot with my .243 and he never got up. It was November 2001 and I was only days away from turning 16.
  4. This might sound funny but I know I'm not the only one waiting for you to get back out there and post updates. I wish more people would do in the field updates with photos like you have...then again, we aren't all lucky enough to get to hunt there. Thanks for doing this.

    Got My Buck Back...

I got my buck back I shot in November. I originally was going to have another guy do it but he has developed arthritis so badly that he can no longer do taxidermy. I was not able to get my buck to Noel until Mid-December and on Saturday he called and said he had it all done. Just can't beat the turn around he offers and the work he does. Out the door was $475. Now, this buck isn't a monster by any means but he fits perfectly in a specific spot in my house.

    Got My Buck Back...

No, it’s an open room in the house, sort of like a den. Our kids had stuff all over the ground so I had to crop the picture 😂

    Got My Buck Back...

Haha I live in Yuma and work from Dateland to Coachella so I’m in the imperial valley a lot. Thanks everybody for the kind words. I appreciate it! Hope to get me a bigger one next year!

    Spypoint Camera ?

First time seeing your post but the only time I've ever had issues with mine is when the batteries died. Unless you are using the lithium energizer batteries, nothing else really has lasted too long on my camera. The lithiums will last 3-4 weeks.

    Same Buck?

A month before the season, I found this matching set of drop antlers in a wash, about 250 yards apart. I shot this buck about 1.5-2 miles north of where I found the drop antlers. Personally, I think there is a lot of similarities between them. Just curious if you guys think this is the same buck or not. Thanks.

    Desert Hunt

Did anybody on here have success in the Muzzleloader hunt for 39/41? I haven’t heard much. I know of a 5x4 and a 3x3 but that’s it. **edit...I just realized this was muzzleloader for coues not just general muzzleloader. My bad.

    Desert Muzzy Hunt

Did anybody have any luck on this hunt from the forum? I heard of a 3x3 and a nice 5x4 but that’s it.

    Canyons or flats?

Yes, ferry duster. Our deer eat it up when it’s green.

    Mule Deer Decoy

https://ultimatepredatorgear.com/mule-deer-stalker-decoy/ This works good in my opinion...
  15. Not a lot of bucks were posted on here this year so I figured I'd share my buck from this season. Not much to the story. Tried glassing first few hours with zero luck. Was walking a finger wash off a main wash where we had seen some good tracks. Figured that with it being the 2nd weekend of the hunt, a lot of these deer had been pressured and would be on the out skirts of stuff in the day time. Ended up kicking this buck and another one up at 50 yards. They got to about 100 yards and slowed down to look back at me. I didn't have much time to shoot, I got this buck in my scope first and fired off a shot that dropped him. He tried to get back up and I put another one in him and that was it. He isn't the biggest buck but he's a solid 4x4 that I'm proud to have taken. I have a perfect spot in my home where he will fit.

My 2018 Desert Buck **More Pics Added 11/28***

I found these drops antlers a month before the season about 1.5-2 miles north of where I shot my buck. Think it is the same buck?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to until I get the buck back from the taxidermist.

    Canyons or flats?

In my unit in southwest AZ, we were being told all the deer are “up high” but we found that anywhere we found ferry duster, there were deer. This year, we found more deer than any year previous and they were all in the flats where ferry duster littered the washes. Not “up high”...

    home range

Deer I hunt are 4-5 miles from the closest water...have seen them 7-8 miles at times. Just depends on the year.

    Desert Growth, Different Buck

This is from August 14th to September 11th. Not a giant buck but I am impressed with the growth in a short amount of time. 54 days out from opening day.

    Desert Growth, Different Buck

Sorry for the confusion in the title, as Huntnfish stated, this buck is different than a post I had previously made about another buck. I was just showing the growth of this buck from August 14th to September 11th on this particular buck. The previous post was of a different buck.

    Desert Buck Growth

I have had a camera out since early August and was a bit depressed at first. Overall growth seems to be down from previous years in the area I hunt. Just comparing old pictures to this year. Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised to see the growth over the month of August, with little rain most of the summer in my unit. This buck is only a forkie but he has impressive size. Last year he was a bit bigger, but still a nice buck this year. The first picture is from August 4th and the next two are from August 28 and August 30. I will be keeping an eye on him and see how he finishes out. I might pursue this buck as I think it would be a cool buck to harvest. I have some other good bucks hitting this particular waterhole but they aren't as wide as this one. Not sure why the pics are so blurry, they are clear on my computer. Anyways, thanks for looking.

    Mittry Lake Frog Fish

Ive caught some big fish at Mittry this year on frogs. Yesterday, I went out and caught 5 before a morning storm blew me and the bass tracker I was in off the lake. I got a little video of the biggest one that weighed 6.3. Not the greatest video quality but just something to share. Never loaded a video off my phone before so hope it works. 4B4A1DCD-E5BF-44EA-86BD-69383896CBAF.MOV
