Unfortunately, I won't be able to until I get the buck back from the taxidermist.

    Canyons or flats?

In my unit in southwest AZ, we were being told all the deer are “up high” but we found that anywhere we found ferry duster, there were deer. This year, we found more deer than any year previous and they were all in the flats where ferry duster littered the washes. Not “up high”...

    home range

Deer I hunt are 4-5 miles from the closest water...have seen them 7-8 miles at times. Just depends on the year.

    Desert Growth, Different Buck

This is from August 14th to September 11th. Not a giant buck but I am impressed with the growth in a short amount of time. 54 days out from opening day.

    Desert Growth, Different Buck

Sorry for the confusion in the title, as Huntnfish stated, this buck is different than a post I had previously made about another buck. I was just showing the growth of this buck from August 14th to September 11th on this particular buck. The previous post was of a different buck.

    Desert Buck Growth

I have had a camera out since early August and was a bit depressed at first. Overall growth seems to be down from previous years in the area I hunt. Just comparing old pictures to this year. Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised to see the growth over the month of August, with little rain most of the summer in my unit. This buck is only a forkie but he has impressive size. Last year he was a bit bigger, but still a nice buck this year. The first picture is from August 4th and the next two are from August 28 and August 30. I will be keeping an eye on him and see how he finishes out. I might pursue this buck as I think it would be a cool buck to harvest. I have some other good bucks hitting this particular waterhole but they aren't as wide as this one. Not sure why the pics are so blurry, they are clear on my computer. Anyways, thanks for looking.

    Mittry Lake Frog Fish

Ive caught some big fish at Mittry this year on frogs. Yesterday, I went out and caught 5 before a morning storm blew me and the bass tracker I was in off the lake. I got a little video of the biggest one that weighed 6.3. Not the greatest video quality but just something to share. Never loaded a video off my phone before so hope it works. 4B4A1DCD-E5BF-44EA-86BD-69383896CBAF.MOV

    Mittry Lake Frog Fish

Sorry guys, when I get to my office tomorrow, I can post a better video. In the mean time, here are some other frog fish from this year at Mittry. The one with a picture of 4 fish are 4 different fish I caught on a Booyah Toadrunner in about an hour one day. First time I had ever thrown it. The single fish is one over 9lbs I got a Spro Bronzeye 65. If any of you live in Arizona, you gotta get down to Yuma late April-June and come frog fish Mittry. Those are the months I typically do best.

No cams on water by G&F.....coming soon.

So where does one draw the line on "hunter ethics?" We can't use trail cameras on water because they aid people in the harvesting of animals and it's not fair chase. I see the argument and acknowledge that's a fair point. My rebuttal is we have all sorts of top of the line equipment now days that makes "fair chase" hunting almost non-existent. From rifles that shoot to 1000+ yards, bows that can shoot to 100+ yards, binoculars that see for miles, rangefinders that give yardage readings at extreme distances and even give yardage to account for arc; just to name a few. I'm not taking one side or the other, if trail cameras are banned from water then so be it. Just funny to see guys who are against trail cameras because of "fair chase" yet have all the top gear that makes hunting no more fair chase than a stationary camera taking pictures at a water hole in my opinion.

Yep, i figured this would happen. Oh well...no big deal.

    Spypoint Link Evo Verizon

I did a search and didn't really find any info on this website. Anybody have one of these or one of the other cellular versions of this brand? I went ahead and ordered one because I've been wanting to try it out and the area I hunt has excellent Verizon coverage. Just curious if somebody has it and what their pros and cons might be. Read some hit or miss reviews online on Amazon and Cabelas but was curious if anybody on here had an opinion. Thanks.

    Mittry Lake Froggin...

It's that time of year where Mittry Lake here in Yuma has fish in the spawn and post-spawn stage. Water temps are in the mid to low 70's and the fish are aggressive. I fished a tournament a couple weeks ago and caught a handful of fish on the frog, biggest being 9lbs (picture attached). I went out again on Monday and caught 15 fish in 3 hours, biggest was only 3.6 (pic attached) but most were over 3lbs. Fun fishing when it's on a hollow body frog. Anyhow, if you get a chance and want to fish some where new, Mittry is tough to beat.

    AZ G&F and trails cameras

I keep hearing the "fair chase" argument for banning game cameras. Where does the line get drawn for fair chase? What about the high dollar binoculars that can see for miles upon miles when glassing animals or the scopes that can help a hunter shoot out over 1,000 yards? How is hiring a guide to take you directly to an animal they pretty much have watched it's whole life considered fair chase but a game camera that sits on a trail or water source, not following the animal, is not fair chase? I don't get it but the law is the law. Curious to see what happens in the future.

    Buck That Drowned

These pics made the rounds down here in Yuma at the end of August. What I was told was it was found floating down a cement canal and pulled out by the water district. This canal has had deer drown in it before but usually it's does. Sad to see this buck go out that way.

    6 Day Growth

These pictures were taken 6 days apart. One is of the buck in full Velvet and the other is him with it rubbed off. I was surprised to see noticeable growth in only 6 days. Also, what is anybody's opinion on how wide he is? I was guessing 26-27.

    6 Day Growth

I have zero explanation and wasn't sure what to think between the 2 pics but it's for sure 6 days apart. I didn't try to make anything funny or create an illusion. For the "brush grew too" comment, I zoomed in on the first picture a bit because it wasn't as easy to see the andtlers in that pic. In the bottom one, I didn't zoom in much except to hide my info from my camera and it still looks bigger overall. I'm thinking if he would've had his ears spread out like the top he wouldn't look as big in the bottom pic as he does. I just put this camera up on 1st and pulled pics for the first time on the 6th and then went back again on the 12th to upload photos again and in that time he rubbed the Velvet off. Thanks for the tips and advice on some of the process of shedding Velvet. I'll keep an eye out for some of these other bucks and see when they start rubbing.

    New Camera, Desert Muleys

Had my previous camera stolen out of my truck so had to break down and buy a couple new ones. Decided to go with Muddy brand because they were only $79 at Bass Pro when I was in Phoenix last week. Set one up on a waterhole I haven't messed with in a few years and go good results for 5 nights. For some reason, I didn't get the bucks in the last picture on camera getting a drink, maybe they got skittish and something didn't seem right so they turned and left. The lead bucks looks pretty good sized though.

    New Camera, Desert Muleys

Trphyhntr- I do have a tag. This drinker is about a mile west of the border of 2 units, I'm hunting the unit where these deer are bedding, not where they are drinking These deer typically go 2-4 miles away from water on average to bed down. Most are going into the unit I'll be hunting to bed.
