  1. I think everybody here is happy for you and wants you to be successful in your pursuit for 4 coues in one year. That is seriously quite the accomplishment.  I think it rubbed a few guys wrong at first how it seemed you put the cart ahead of the horse claiming you were going to shoot 100" bucks or bust and then settled for something smaller. I don't blame you though. We all have the goal to shoot a "book" buck before our hunts start and sometimes that doesn't work out and you shoot what is available. No shame in that.  I hope your next buck is your biggest this year and you accomplish your goal of 4 coues bucks regardless of the scores. Good luck man.

I bought the Deepower nock after watching a lusk archery review.

They added 24 grains to the arrow (they are 32 and my existing nock was 8).

I just googled the review and it looks like they updated to nock to prevent it coming on when you nock the arrow without chaing the weight.

Battery lasts a while, and the dead ones I use when practicing so I have the right weight without burning the good ones up.

    I will check those out!

I don't believe I had to move my sights at all when I put them on. But they are fantastic and I highly recommend them.

I am going to shoot arrows with regular nocks and some with lighted nocks and see what sort of difference I see for my bow. Hopefully it is nothing crazy.

They are heavier so will drop more. Total percentage of arrow weight changed will affect how much more drop. Also changes tune on bow. Will give you more momentum at the rear of the arrow vs the front. If front of arrow is not heavy enough you can have issues. Check FOC and make sure it doesn't get too low. Try to find a brand that doesn't bump on in quiver. Have seen people fighting this. They make spotting hits way easier though. Also can find arrows super fast. I really like them for javelina and elk. Not so much for coues or mule deer. They spook so easy and worry about them seeing the light and moving more during the shot.

Thank you for the information. I think I will get some to target practice with and see. I have watched a lot of videos and they sure look cool. I read some posts on other websites after I made the post on here and it sounds like some people love them and some people hate them...that's the same with everything though.

  5. For those of you who shoot lighted nocks, is there a preference you have found that you like one brand over the other? Is there a noticeable drop at longer distance (50+ yards)? I am thinking on switching to a lighted nock for hunting this season but was just curious what some you have experienced with them. Thanks for any input.

  6. Well, only does and spikes for me this hunt. Our camp Only manage 1 buck for the hunt and it was an 18” 3x3. We usually hunt the flats but the deer where we hunt were up in the hills. Didn’t realize that until Saturday afternoon and ended up finding does pretty quickly. Today, we spotted 6 different groups of does and fawns and 29 deer total. Only 1 was a buck and it was small spike. Oh well, I know where to go for the rut. We ran into an older gentlemen who said he has hunted this unit for 50 years and when the desert is this green the big bucks go up with the sheep. He said he had glassed up a couple good bucks this weekend but they were too high for him to go after.

I talked with people who hunted other desert units around Yuma and it sounds like a lot of people struggled to find deer. Way below average harvest. I know some that were successful and said all the buck they saw were in bachelor herds of 3-5 bucks. I did see the bachelor here of 3 before the season but with all the pressure I am sure they ran for the hills. Looks like I’ll be archery hunting in December.

we did see a nice ram looked up high for deer. Pretty cool for the kids to see.

  7. Can’t get the video to play but these are 3 bucks from last weekend at like 800 yards. Front and back are in velvet and middle one was rubbed.

I went out to some new stuff Saturday and didn’t see any deer but did cut a good sized track. 44° in the desert yesterday morning at 6am. Man I can’t wait for opening morning!!

And not a single taco was seen that day

I kept 5 of the fish and gave the meat away to my sister and a coworker. I promised my coworker striper meat in March but never got a chance to go out to catch any until this day. After my deer hunt, I am going to go target them again and hopefully get some more then help my buddy who has a sheep tag in 41E. I love that the weather is going to be in the 60's when my deer hunt starts. Finally some hunting weather.

Got 21 mule in a few days. Leaving Thursday with a new approach. Taking the ranger as far east as I can drive from Dugas, taking the pack loaded up and waking out.

I need to get away from the roads this trip- found some really good areas I’m hoping will be good for me this time.

it’s pretty interesting trying to pack for this- usually I have a base camp with everything I need. Now I find myself going over the gear - do I really wanna carry this for a few days? Usually the answer is no… not so much.

Going lite and fast. We’ll see how it turns out.

Good luck! Hope you find a giant! Post up your results!

Wow still in velvet and looks like he is still bedded too ?

He was still in velvet and 3 other bucks we saw were also still in full velvet. Should be coming off any time.

He was bedded down. He thought he was hidden so just froze.
