I have lived here for all of my 26 years and have put in for the draws every year since I was 10 years old. Some very good points made by all but if we are looking to give preference or advantage to those who have supported the AZGFD throughout the years then I don't think that length of residency is a good determining factor. There are many people who have been AZ residents for many years that have never contributed any kind of support toward AZGFD. If they decide now that they want to start hunting should they get higher preference? You also have to consider that there may be nonresidents that put in for the draw for the past 25 or so years that may love this state but because of other obligations can not live here. Should they not get higher preference because they are not a resident even though they have contributed thousands of dollars to the AZGFD over the years. I would lean more toward an addition to the loyalty point system that we have now. Something like Scoutem mentioned, a loyalty bonus point for every five years you have put in. That seems like a pretty fair way to give preference based on your support/contibutions to the AZGFD. -Tracy

My father and I came accross a HUGE group of them last year while deer hunting. I immediately got really excited as I had never seen a coatimundi before and have allways wanted one. After seeing them go into a canyon we hurried to the edge to try and get a shot. When I got to the edge of the canyon there was one coati about 20 yds looking right at me. All I could see was the its face staring at me throught the tall grass. I put my crosshairs on his face and fired. I missed!!! At 20yds! Now here is where things got kind of crazy. I don't know if the coati was charging me or if he was confused and spooked from the shot but as soon as I fired he imediately bolted right at me. I started back stepping as I was cycleing another round into my rifle, put my rifle to my shoulder and shot the coati at about 5-10 feet. I didn't even look through the scope, just pointed and shot. It was an adrenaline rush like no other. I think my dad was freaking out more than I was as he watched the whole thing happed from about 30 yds away. I know it sounds far fetched but that is the honest to God truth about what happened. Some people have told me that the coati was charging me and some have said that he was probably just confused when I shot and just happened to run right at me in his confusion. Either way it was an experience I will never forget! I allways wanted a coatimundi so I could get it mounted but after shooting him with my .270 at that close there was too much damage. -Tracy

Thanks for the comedic relief while we wait! It helps dull the "draw result wait" blues! -Tracy -
When I was 14 I drew my 1st big game tag, a muzzleloader cow elk tag. While scouting for my elk hunt my dad and I were seeing little muledeer bucks every where just milling around without a care in the world. I looked at the hunting regulations and realized this was all during archery deer season and over half of the bucks that we saw were all within archery range. From that point on I started bugging my parents asking for a bow. A little over a year later, Christmas came and I got my 1st bow, a PSE Nova. It became my passion as I would race home from school everyday to shoot in the backyard. I would literally shoot hundreds of arrows a day. The next August found me up north in the pines chasing muledeer. I ended up killing my 1st deer a few weeks after my 16th birthday on the last day of the season with 10 minutes of light left. It was a little 2x3 mulie buck in velvet. I couldn't have been more happy! From that point on I was hooked! Today, 11 years later archery is still my favorite way of hunting and my passion in life as I have taken more big game with a bow than any other weapon. I think the best thing about archery hunting is that the odds are against you so you get to experience the stalk/ hunt over and over again. On a rifle hunt when you stalk up on an animal it is a lot easier to get into range. Once you do, boom and its all over(not always that easy). With archery you stalk in close, your heart is pumping as your adrenaline is maxed out. You get that addicting rush and 9 times out of 10 you get busted and the deer take off. Then you get to do it all over again, and again and again. All the failed attempts makes it that much more sweet when you finally connect! -Tracy

Those are some whoppers! GH and Shylopolito, you guys have one heck of a stud of a buck if you put your findings together! Since GH has the brownie, you'll have to put a little stain on Shylopolito's (hopefully it won't take too much stain but that is alot of bone to cover! ). You guys could make one awesome trophy coues european mount! -Tracy
