ORO ranch has a old winchester a employee found leaning against a tree on trout creek. It is in the ranch headquarters. My brother left my 22 leaning against a tree once. Luckily we found it quickly!

Its 385 less rifle tags. Overall its only 253 less tags. They just got moved around.

There are a handful of limited opp hunts that can be drawn as a 3rd - 5th choice. Outside of that, its pretty slim pickens. The number of elk tags this year in AZ is 385 less than it was last year. With a record number of applicants last year, and a reduced number of tags this year, its going to be tougher than ever to get tags, but if, you want to hunt elk, there are plenty of options that provide you with that option every single year. Yes I am thinking I should put what would be my second choice as my first choice. This is going to be the first time my son can put in for elk so as long as i can get him a cow tag i dont mind the butcher job they did to the permit numbers. Good luck everyone!!

This will be the year of some units moving into the third choice bracket with g&f increasing tags in some units. I have drawn the multi unit tags on 4th and 5th choice. But i will not be putting in for it this year. Not a bad hunt but with five weeks to hunt it can get expensive if you end up hunting the whole season lol! Lots of elk but they are always on the move. Im planning on putting in for 1st and 2nd and if i dont get hit im going to Utah for an otc hunt. Elk populations are booming there compared to az.

I was wondering if any members have gone to Utah for an otc hunt and how was it compared to AZ as far as hunting pressure and success. Not interested in trophy bulls just a fun hunt.

My great grandfather was illegal. He was from Poland. I aslo hear of people from other countries with red and blonde hair coming over back in the day. Some of them made good Americans. Some not. -
Yesterday was the last day of my five week cow hunt. I was able to get out for a few weekends between work. I was lucky enough to tag out on this hunt last year but i am eating tag soup this year. I had alot of fun and saw some beautiful country. Found this deadhead and saw some nice mule deer bucks. Good luck to everyone still in the field.

AZGFD Commission changing elk structures!!!
Explorer replied to bowhunter4life's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
As one of the guilty ones not attending the meetings I will wait for the regs to come out. Pick my hunts, and go hunting without complaint. It sounds like g&f is gonna do what they want. What I would like to know is if the overall population of elk in AZ is increasing or decreasing? Anybody have any links for such information? -
Mountaneering/hiking boots vs popular hunting boots
Explorer replied to creed_az_88's topic in Other Hunting Gear
New balance makes some great hiking shoes. Cheap to. I made the mistake of spending big bucks on boots that suck. I usually wear hiking shoes/boots. And then some heavy duty boots for the cold and snow. -
Ernesto,a couple of years ago i hiked the grand canyon rim to rim and my harmstrings were srained and i had a terrible sciatica pain went to the chiropractor and he told me to stretch the harmstring a least 2 times a day because they pull on your sciatica, since the no more problems, also look on you tube for sciatica stretches thay work. good luck, i feel your pain stretching really helps me. Massage therapy is A+ for this also. Quality footwear also makes a noticeable difference with my back and hip pain.

Great article in the Prescott Courier detailing recent transplant. G&F didn't advertise it on their website. Having trouble downloading.

My brother corned an elk heart one time. Sliced it thin and made some amazing sandwiches.

Lots of coyotes in that unit. I have had them lurk around and sometimes follow me while I was elk and deer hunting. They must know that the hunters leave them treats because of all the tags they issue. I have seen some nice badgers in there also.
-
They don't want deer and elk/stag that are farm raised escaping and polluting the gene pool and spreading disease. I was under the impression that buffalo needed to be contained in an area with a fence strong enough to hold them. They are not considered ferrel though. Only goats and pigs fall under that classification.

Greedy, rude and cowardly. I bet they don't have many friends. Probably has a few teeth missing from getting punched in the face at some point in their lives ( one can only hope).

Sorry to go off topic but I never understood why BP doesn't take the illegals out to the desert and make them pick up trash before deporting them? Another thing is how come they spend all that money on coyotes when they could put it towards getting their legal citizenship...

I like road hunters. I encourage everyone to do it. They make my hunt much more enjoyable by staying in their wagon trains while I have the woods to myself.
