Actually Craig I can't take credit for that. I wasn't involved in the raffle but a good friend of mine was. He gave me the info. It obviously was a huge success in raising money and I can see this being an annual fund raiser. Scott

Colorado Archer, unit 26 does hold some good bucks both Coues and muley. Here's a muley I took out of there a few years ago. Scott

A huge mushroom cloud developed off to the East of Morenci this afternoon. By the time I made it out with my camera it looked more like a smoke plume. Apparently there is a huge fire burning in the Gilas. I took a few photos from town. The fire looks to be East of Glenwood and North of Silver City. Scott

I drew a unit 23 muzzleloader WT tag. My son Austin who will be 16, drew the youth elk hunt in unit 34. A rifle hunt that starts Sept 23! Man, are we pumped about that one!! Can't wait!!! Scott

Thanks for the compliments on the photos. I use a Leica Digilux 2 camera. It does take some very nice photos. Thunderbolt is right, that cloud was huge. The first time I saw it I thought is was a big thunderhead and then realized it was smoke. It doesn't look good for the forests remaining open. I have a trip planned to Big Lake July 13th. I hope we see some relief by then. Scott

Jason, it's not Ft. Bayard but in unit 34, which is south of Cloudcroft. I have cousins that live in Timberon which is in that unit. It is an Any Legal Sporting Arm Mature Bull elk hunt during the rut, at the end of Sept. You'll see it at the botton of page 34 in the regs. It is the Standard Fee which shows to be $541 on page 7 of the regs. I hope this is correct. I put both boys in seperately for this hunt and only this hunt. All my elk hunts were the $766 tags. Scott

I was hit with a $535 charge. It looks like one of the boys drew the Youth only Bull Elk hunt in Sept. Scott

I haven't posted anything for quite a while. It's kind of the off season for me. The boys and I do a lot of fishing this time of year on the rivers around here. The San Francisco, Gila and Eagle Creek, all hold good catfish and some smallmouth bass. I just applied for the fall hunts so I'm starting to gear back up for yet another great hunting season. Anyway here are some photos of a few of our trips from the last month or so. By the way, in case any of you are wondering...we don't handfish! Scott

Those of you that know me know that I'm a big Kifaru fan. I can't speak from experience on the Eberlelstock or Badlands and they may be very good packs. That pack goes with me everytime I go out. I purchased the 9th Longhunter ever built back in 1996 and actually wore it out, it took me 9 years to do it but I did it, Kifaru replaced the entire pack last year! I've packed a lot of game out with my Kifaru over the past 10 years. Ive packed out bear, javelina, mule deer and of course Coues deer. The pack is very comfortable. I would however, pay close attention to Deerslam and Coueshunter's post as they have had the opportunity to use all of the "Big Three", Kifaru, Eberlestock and Badlands and prefer the Eberlestock. I may try one of those out myself as I have 2 teenage son's that will be needing fullsize packs pretty soon. Scott Those of you that have seen these photos before, bear with me. These first 2 photos are Coues deer that were only field dressed.

Take a look at huntscout.com. They also have some great services in the area of maps and info for the do-it-yourself hunter. Bryan, who runs it, is also a regular on here. HUNT SCOUT Scott -
Went out with the family this weekend and did a little fishing for smallies. The boys caught a few including a 4 lb. monster! Saw quite a few sheep and found some nice holes that my boys want to bowfish for carp. Scott

I went out this morning for the first time this hunt. I picked up a cold on Thursday and the sorry thing's been hanging on ever since. I rounded up a buddy to go out with me this morning and although we got off to a late start we did manage to get on to a couple of bucks. One of them really good. I'm planning on being pretty picky this hunt since I already killed a NM Coues. However when I spotted the buck I did this morning, I was ready to end the hunt. We spotted them quite a ways off and after bedding them down in some trees I headed over to setup on them. I was setup by noon and that's when they got up and began feeding. I ranged the bucks at anywhere from 375 to 400 yards. Now to make a long story short I will tell you the big buck still roams the hills and I'm taking my rifle out to shoot it in the morning. Anyway I'll let the area calm down and probably head back in there sometime next week. I did glass up a nice Coues shed but will have to get it later, I didin't have time today. Here's where the bucks were hanging out. This is the smaller of the 2 bucks. I guessed him in the 80 inch range. Here's the buck I...mmm...mmm....didn't get. Just can't get myself to say it. I'm not sure what he'll score other than he'll break the 100 inch mark. Untill later Scott

I took my "babies" out for their first big hike today. These little fellas were born 2 years ago and are now old enough to start to pack gear. However, I'm going a little slower with them and didn't even saddle them up. They have been on hikes before from their corral but today I loaded them up in the back of the truck and drove up to about 7,000 ft. and hiked in from there. They did pretty good with 2 doing better than the other 2. I didn't put any lead ropes on them and they followed right along with out any problems. These boys are all nuetered billies and were all bottle raised so they are very easy to work with. Once I get them up to speed they should work out very well. Scott

Here's a photo of a Sheep sign on State Highway 191 about 200 yards from where I took the sheep photos.

Well it's not Coues or Javelina but it is in unit 27. I took these photos this morning of about 25 sheep on the front lawn of our General Office building in Morenci. OLD WARRIOR Scott

What's the score?
ScottAdams replied to coueselk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Looks like a 2-point with no eye guard on the right. I'd guess 80 to 85. Scott -
Great buck Jeff! Congtratulations! Are you hooked on Coues yet? Are you still interested in hunting AZ with your bow? I've got a water hole that's getting hit really heavy by at least 3 Coues bucks right now. It's just 2 hours from Silver. Let me know. Scott
