    Portable evap coolers

Build your own. I have a little side draft 3500 I replaced and it was in good shape so I built a cart and put 8" pneumatic tires on it with a 50' extension cord and hose so I can roll it out in my backyard where I shoot my bow. The other thing you can do if you have the garage door open is put a mister system up like they have on bar patios, then you just need a fan for a breeze.

You only get 208 if you have 3 phase. You have to use the square root of 3 which is 1.73. Phase to phase you get 208 volts, phase to neutral you get 120 volts, usually on Delta-Wye transformers. That is why commercial lighting is 277 volts, 480 volt 3 phase divide by 1.73 is 277 volts. I could keep boring you on old Delta-Delta transformers and why you have a "high" leg on B phase but I won't. Hoss if you can put a tandem breaker in you can fit a 240 volt breaker in, depending on your panel. You would free up two spaces for a 240 breaker, the only way to get 240 volts is phase to phase, but it depends on your service. We have had to do numerous service upgrades for people wanting refrigerated air and only having a 100 amp panel or worse yet an old 60 amp meter base. All the upgrades are to 200 amp main breaker panels.

    Found Binoculars

I doubt any of you were in Los Lunas today but I found a pair of binoculars that fell off the outside of a car or truck. Found them in a parking lot so very low speed and no damage to the binoculars. If you know of anybody that might of lost them let me know. No they were not Swaro's. I hope they were registered, HINT: everybody register your optics , as I contacted the manufacturer with the serial number to hopefully find the owner.

    Hunting w/Non-Lead

Give em an inch... They should put some "wild" horses up there in the bab too. I know what you are saying and that you know the difference: Here is my argument. The problem is horses are not wild, they are feral. We need to be able to argue the difference. Horses did not exist on this continent until the Spaniards brought them over from Europe. Australia is a good example of what happens when a non-native animal is introduced into an ecosystem where it has no natural predators to control the population. Maybe mountain lions have learned to prey on horses but not many other predators to keep the population in check. With the growth of the human population there is not suitable quantities of habitat to support grizzly bears. There is not suitable habitat for the Mexican Grey Wolf as soon there will be more human/ animal conflicts. Those that don't live in the area are trying to push their agenda on everybody. Look at the wolves in Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Idaho, etc.. If they don't get their way they file lawsuits, because if they can tie something for years instead of improving habitat and managing species, so not much can be done afterwards. The lead free debate is not just about Condors but all raptors. Raptors are opportunistic feeders, usually hunting down their own prey. They will scavenge on other food sources. Bald Eagles are a raptor and will eat dead salmon on the stream banks as well as catch their own live salmon. Most owls, hawks, and other raptors are like this. If I have a chance I will do my part to benefit the habitat. That is what conservation is about. As hunters we should also be conservationist. Enough Rant.

2018: What’s ur bull goal this year?

I drew a rifle Valle Vidal bull tag back in the mid-90s... that was a truly awesome hunt! Hit the weather/elk perfect that year, but the poor archers that September had a tough time of it as the bulls had only started to bugle some. By the time our season came around (early October as I recall), the bulls were in a full-out rut! I took an average 6x the first morning after chasing/being between 4 separate herds all morning... it was AWESOME! Some of the most beautiful elk habitat/country I've ever had the privilege to hunt too. I drew a muzzle loader hunt in Marquez WMA in 2007. There were only five tags and one went to NR so I was one of four residents.I know what you are talking about as the elk were bugling like mad Oct. 13th when I killed my bull. The problem was talking to the G&F biologist most genetics in the area are 5X5 bulls. So when my friend and I saw this bull my hunt was over 30 minutes of opening morning. He was walking around a bedded cow bugling his head off when we found him, he made the fatal mistake of following the cow down the draw we were in. He was very tasty.

2018: What’s ur bull goal this year?

Nothing for this year as I don't have a tag. With archery over here it is an ES tag, I am a meat hunter, so first elk to get in range is what I usually take. Doesn't have to be a bull because all I see are plates of cooked elk.

    Conicals

You want to stay all lead or go with a sabot? The twist rate should be fine for sabots if legal. I use to shoot XTP's in sabots out of my percussion St. Louis Hawken with a 1 in 48 twist. In my inline I killed my first bull with a 250 grain Shock Wave at 200 yards, one shot through the heart, 1 in 28 twist. Then I decided I needed to get closer and got a bow.

    Insurance claim ???

You did remember you had my decked out competition AR-15 and Custom Springfield in there also? Add about $3000 in losses and that will come out in about 10 years where your premium increase will break even for them. Just kidding of course.

    Insurance claim ???

Depends on how many claims you have had. In the last 3 years my wife has been at fault in two crashes, rather minor, but $5000 for both cars. I was the meat in the sandwich in the same time period and our auto rates didn't go up. The other time she lost a piece of jewelry from her sister, enough we had to have a separate rider on it, and our homeowner rates didn't go up. It is there use it and if the rates go up switch insurance companies. We have been with State Farm for 30 years and have 5 cars, homeowners, my hospitalization, and the wife's business with them so we do have some leverage.

    “Big” flat screen TVs

No not in the dumpster but there is a few safe haven places with no questions asked if I recall. fire stations QT'S and some other joints. Just lie about there age It is illegal to throw them in dumpsters most places due to the heavy medals and crap they use in them. Most dumps won't take them and they have to be specially recycled. I run into the same issue with ballast from lighting fixtures. So I have 2 tv's and about 50 ballast and am waiting for a "green day" to go drop them off and not have to pay for it. Besides I would hate to see them outlaw big screen tv's due to the fact condors are eating them and dying from heavy metal poisoning.

Can't just throw them in a dumpster. Well I guess you can if you don't get caught.

OK SA comment I have been fighting not to make but lost.......I prefer my condors roasted on a spit with orange glaze sauce and lead free.

    Layering for cold weather

At 15, that is understandable. But, and I could be mistaken, I bet MOST adult hunters pay attention to the projected forecast, and are usually somewhat prepared. I have been on the 15 side of this too. Also, the weather service and technology are far more accurate today. A "freak" storm is rare if you pay attention to those reports and your surroundings. I have had very fast moving storms roll in, no doubt about it. But I knew there was a chance, so I was prepared. Just got here way faster than expected. I have even had reports that rain would hit by noon, and at 10AM, not a cloud in the sky. Sure enough, it was pouring by noon. "Cotton kills" if you are unprepared with proper outer wear/base layers or a lack of respect for Mother Nature. Stupidity (or inexperience/ignorance) kills just as fast as cotton, if not faster. Not saying anyone is stupid, so don't even start. I was with my Dad, Uncle and Co-Worker of my Dad. We listened to the weather forecast. I left from camp, Wayne was dropped off, and my Dad took the Jeep across the plains to what would be NM Unit 16D. The morning was blue skies no wind awesome sunrise, about 10 it was grey skies, about 10:15 I turned around because it was starting to snow, by 10:30 it was whiteout conditions and a 30mph wind. The storm was so bad my Dad came to camp to unlock the camper before going to get Wayne as he knew where he was, no idea where I was. So we were not unprepared or not listening to the am radio station as some assume. Nobody predicted this storm. January Barbary Sheep hunt by Mount Taylor two months later we knew the weathermen were predicting a small storm with 2"-4" of snow. Went to bed with a star filled night, no moon. The next morning there was 14" of snow on the ground and still snowing. Chained up the front of the Jeep and we went hunting. 9 am we chained up the back also and were the only vehicle moving on the mountain. Of course we had our snowmobile suits that we used for sledding/tubing so we looked like giant bananas walking around the mountain. They were in the camper for the November hunt as well so I guess it was my youth and inexperience that I was unprepared. I use some cotton as well as synthetic on Sept. bow hunts. Would I use what I use in Sept. for the January hunt? No because cotton and especially wet cotton has no insulation value. You point out the change in weather forecasting, well clothing has changed as well.

    Layering for cold weather

Don't wear cotton. I got caught in a freak November snowstorm in the Gila and in 3 hours walking back to camp I got hypothermia. It took 3 hours to go 1 1/2 miles because it was a complete whiteout with the 30mph winds blowing the snow off the plains and I could only walk from fence post to fence post to get back. My jeans were so embedded with snow and ice the only thing that moved were the knees. They stood by themselves like they were majorly starched. I had to cut the laces off my boots and my first jacket due to ice and snow. I was 15 at the time so this would have been in 1982. 60 degrees and raining with a wind can cause hypothermia, a dropping of the body core. It doesn't have to be arctic temperatures so please don't wear cotton.

Lion attack on my trail cam?

The coolest thing I ever found in the woods was up by Navajo Lake back in the mid 70's when I was with my Dad. He was deer hunting and I was about 8 and just tagging along. It had rained and we found deer tracks in the dirt along with lion tracks from a chase. We would find tracks about every 30 feet or so. The deer jumped down hill, over juniper trees, changing directions with each bound, and that cat matched him stride for stride. Never knew if that cat got him or not.

Just think once cameras are banned completely we will never be able to see this. That is cool to see though.

    Recommend me some books/novels please

There is one called Black Range Tales by James A. McKenna. It is an old prospector around Hillsboro and Lake Valley during the time of the bridal chamber discovery. I think it is out of print but I can send you a copy but it is only 210 pages. I like to read is anything about old Ghost Towns and my wife got me a book called Explorations & Adventures in Arizona & New Mexico by Samuel Woolworth Cozzens. I mainly read local history and find places to go exploring. I also like forensics so read a lot of anthropology books. Instead of reading so much take a pen and paper and write your own novel.
