Dang nice buck, congrats

Hey guys thanks for all the comments, I was really pumped up to say the least. As for a story i'll give it the best I can. After getting out of school and waiting for my brother to get off work we loaded the truck and booked it down to our spot. We got there at about five and bailed out of the rig and started our way to the top, loaded down with sleeping bags and supplies for three days. We made it just in time to roll out the sleeping bags and spend a night under the stars. We woke up early and instantly hit the glass HARD and managed to turn up a few does and fawns. We worked down the ridge and jumped a little forky and decided to let him be, we once again hit the glass and turned up our first respectable buck with and doe and her twin fawns. After what we'll call a (missed opportunity) on him we decided to catch an hour or two nap before glassing throughout the heat of the day. We awoke to some blistering heat and decided to find what shade we could and once again went to glassing. We instantly glassed a forky and a doe and stayed in the binos and found another nice 8 I decided this buck was a shooter in my eyes and off I went to get down there and play with them. After a 500 or 600 yard stalk I knew I was in range and was searching for the spot I knew he was. Well it turned out harder than I thought it would be to turn up the bunch of trees my buck was under for the flatness of the terrian. I kept trying to get a little higher than the buck without getting out of range, well I managed to get about forty yards (alot closer than I wanted to be) from the deer but, getting a shot wasn't gonna happen as he was making his way to his bedding area. I had to watch the 8 top out of the bowl out of range, knowing the buck had no idea I was in the country I decided to stay in the shade and do a little glassing on the only ridge in my view. I instantly glassed another heavy 8 at about 100 yards and steadied the 264 the best I could for a shot. After shooting over the buck I stopped him the best I could in an opening and hit him hard right in the lungs. He went down hard and rolled off a little cliff (the reason for the broke eyegaurd) and expired in the bottom of the canyon. After meeting up with my brother and confirming with him where the buck went down we crossed the canyon and walked up on the buck. I let out a holler and thanked my brother for the extra set of eyes and for being there for the packout ahead. After getting the meat boned out and getting him caped we loaded the badlands for the 2 mile packout to pick up camp and returned to the rig. I gross scored the buck at 101 4/8" and look forward to doing up some coues backstraps. Thanks for taking the time to enjoy my buck and hope you guys and girls like the story.

Sorry its not a Gray Ghost, but its the tag I was fortunate to draw. Hunted three days before cashing in my chips. The first photo shows a picture of the buck I harvested. My little brother (aka Coatimundi) digi - scoped from about 800 yards.

Couesaddict we didn't see anything with big back ends just small to average bulls so far, but the rut is still a little weak this early.

My brother and I spent the weekend on the mountain, where i was lucky enough to connect on my first archery elk. The shot was about 50 yards on a nice 4 by 4 bull. We will be back out this weekend to try and get another on the ground. Good luck to all with time remaining and to those with upcoming tags.

Hello everyone, I was lucky enough to have drawn a january archery tag in this unit (mule deer). This will be my first shot at an archery deer during the rut after 3 years of chasing them in the early season. I'm not looking for honey holes just some places to start scouting.
