Have seen elk get quieter when they have their cows all secure and moved them away from other bulls. They don't want to give away their position if they have plenty of cows. They will sound off though if another bull gets too close or his cows start splitting up. Is a sign the elk numbers in unit 9 are too low. Not enough younger bulls to cause problems for the big guys. If bugling is bad I would look for larger groups of cows on the edge of clearings and on travel corridors to trick tanks. Basically every group should have a bull with them right now. With a muzzleloader, spot and stalk is going to work well.

Is there an easy way to clean and skin squirrels?
6AYoteHunter replied to PRDATR's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Clean them ASAP and it is way easier. Some Corona classic pruners make things faster. They also work well on turkey and cutting catclaw. -
Bring extra arrows. Lost half a quiver falling down.

Knee pads and leather gloves

We only give Benadryl if someone is having an infusion reaction to the CroFab which is super rare since it is made with sheep. The old horse stuff was way more dangerous.

Be prepared for any temperature for that hunt.

Pray for no snow during the hunt. If you are lucky it will snow a couple weeks before the hunt. This will push lots of elk out of the pines and higher elevation pinyon/juniper into the areas you can glass. Last year the snow during the hunt was a very serious problem. Feed was really bad in the southern part of the unit as well. Elk movement was significant at night.

Interested in this as well. The Calvin Elite single stage works great. Also a fan of the narrow shoe they have as an option on their standard triggers.

Strelok Ballistic app powder temp comp?
6AYoteHunter replied to 105Coues's topic in Long Range Shooting
Shooter and AB is the same family and they both work. AB just has some added features. Exbal, BulletFlight, atrag, and JBM also work. Strelok had incorrect ballistics when we tested it a few years ago. No garbage in, but some garbage out. Had 6 ballistic programs running and Strelok was the only one that gave incorrect solutions. 5 of us double checked everything. So we emailed the developer. Response was something about real world ballistics don't match programs all the time and we continue to work on improved solutions. Good and bad answer I guess. Just didn't agreee with other software that worked really well in real world testing. -
The RMR at cabelas I think is the type 1 which is now DCd. The type 2 is now out.

#8 shot works well for snakes. I know #12 is terrible on a big rattler

You could just reload some 45 lc with bird shot. Bet someone has posted a video on YouTube.

Powder temp is important especially with some of the ball powders. -

I would recommend getting the Applied Ballistics app. Much more accurate. -
A ball head with a large panner works really well for photos and for horizontal grid glassing. Not so good for video though. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1162342-REG/manfrotto_mhxpro_bhq2_xpro_ball_head.html

Sig has a 1911 in 10mm now. Think it is a TACOPS. Wish Sig would do a long slide 10mm. That would be a really cool gun to own.

Look at the Nikon 18-300 lens. Can handle 95% of whatever you need. Then learn how to use the camera really well. To post edit get a camera that can shoot in RAW.
