I've studied Google earth quite a bit, I have the hunting GPS maps and it shows rds everywhere. A lot that don't even show up on GE. I'm sure alot of these are trails or atv trails that aren't main rds which are red on hunting GPS maps.

Yea there looks to be lots or rds everywhere. Literally every square mile looks to have some kinda rd or trail. I feel that will be the secret to the hunt is finding un pressured pockets of elk, if that's possible

I have this hunt as well. Will be my first time in AZ

No excuses this yr! lol. Well I have the same tag as well this yr. I hope I can get away from ppl and not run into some of the issues you had early in your hunt. Congrats on getting the tag two years in a row!

Well I stay in "elk" shape year round! So I'm not worried about that aspect. But yes you are right, I've hunted in CO and the Gila in NM and it will def kick your butt!

I'm not familiar with Mormon mt area? I see Mormon lake? The very southern part of the unit looks like it could be remote in places but I'm not sure if elk would be there as it looks to be a desert type place and dryer. Just starting my research. Sure I'll have some questions!

Yelp, I was gonna order road map when I order the regular forest map. There seems to be lots of rds that show up on google earth but not on forest map. I've looked briefly at smaller version on net. I also have the hunting GPS maps from a New Mexico hunt so I will start studying the unit here soon in more detail.

I drew this tag as well! I'm a NR from alabama. Just joined this forum. Seems to be a lot of great guys and good info here! This is also my first time in AZ. There seems to be lots of roads in northern part of unit and east side. The southern/west part looks like rougher terrain and less rds but maybe not as many elk as the pine country to the north? Are most roads passable with 4x4 truck? Thanks for any advice and good luck to everyone who drew!

Yea I hear it gets crowded there is 6a, but also seems to be a ton of elk everywhere along with lots of roads in the northern part. The southern part of the unit looks like you could get away from ppl as there's less roads and rougher terrain. Guess I gotta see which tag I get first. lol

3b or 6a early archery. This will be my first trip to AZ. Any ideas on the better of the two? I've been doing my research and I have some ideas about 6a but not a lot info on 3b. Thanks!

Well this is certainly a entertaining conversation. I'm a first time poster and member. Im waiting on draw results as well. I've drawn an early archery bull tag for az! This will be my first time there in az so I'm pretty excited about it! Will either be 3b or 6a. Any opinions on which is better?
