    Colorado elk units

They have a leftover list that comes out mid summer for draw hunts as well. It's first come first serve

Mathematically it's the same squaring points or getting an extra point for a low number every yr, etc. I mean sure if the points are squared u get more chances but so does everyone else as they progress in point level. The only way to make availability of tags better is to increase tags(supply) or decrease applicants(demand). There's all kinds of diff systems but they all have benefits and disadvantages. At the end of the day, the average wait time would be the same on average per applicant no matter the system if applicants and tag numbers stayed the same

So I've looked at these late archery hunts again, some of them are 100% draw and lots have 70-80% draw odds. Some even had leftover tags. For some of the better units as well. Success rates aren't terrible. And the hunts are before the late gun hunts. I might try one next yr. If so, I might get some of ya'lls insight before but that's a year from now! Anyway, congrats to everyone that drew a tag this yr!

    Just want to vent

So I guess my question is are cow tags in more demand than nov archery bull tags? I guess it could be an easier hunt(cow) so ppl choose that as a second choice. Yea I've seen a few picks of guys with these nov Bulls. Most seem to be studs. I'm thinkin bout one of these hunts as second choice next yr. I want to hunt so I don't care when it is! Yea I've had a sept archery hunt and its a ball and I love to listen to bugles and chase them but that comes with its on set of problems. I'm just thinkin if you can find them in nov they would be very kill able since they don't wonder over three counties at that time! Idk never tried a late hunt though

    Just want to vent

I guess my question is, it was stated they hadn't drawn a late cow tag in 4 or 5 yrs? I know some of the late archery bull hunts are almost a guarantee draw? Or at least really good odds with no points. So are some of these cow not a pretty much guarantee draw? I've never looked at the cow hunts because I wouldn't be interested in them but I wouldn't see them being more popular than a bull hunt whether it be late, archery or whatever

    Which Archery Hunt

If 23s was their second choice what do you think their first choice was? Probably not 4b late cow. Pretty small number draw their first choice. I don't think people realize just how tough some of these units are. And once they do, they often decide to go hunt elsewhere. In reality, someone with 10 pts now could draw a decent unit now, and probably one more time before they are good my to make the bonus pass on 23. So you tell me, which is better 2 good hunts or 1 great hunt? Yea I can't figure why anyone would list 23S as a second choice unless they were just applying for two premium tags. Maybe 23N first choice and 23S Second? Idk? For me, I will never apply for any of these premium units. Just too long to wait and too tough of odds. I would much rather hunt every few yrs in a "sup par" unit and at least be chasing elk!

    Which Archery Hunt

Well for 23S there were 237 first choice applicants last yr. and twelve tags after bonus pass. So not terrible odds I guess. There were also right at 200 second choice applicants so u gotta figure that number in too but some 2nd choice obviously draw their 1st choice. All in all 400 applicants chasing 12 tags

    Which Archery Hunt

U have 9 number assigned to u in the 1-2 pass and they use your lowest number. Someone with 0 points has only one number assigned so yes u have better odds as the more points u get. U only get to use one number like everyone else but u get 9 chances to get the lowest possible number based on yoyr 9 points
  13. Thomas11

    Any advice would help.

700 tags is a lot of folks! I had this tag last yr. u really have to work to find places without ppl. Fun hunt but lots of ppl

    Draw Help??

Gohunt is supposedly adding draw odds to their website and they are supposed to be the most accurate draw odds of any tool out there in the industry but I'm not a member. Been thinkin bout joining .

    Draw Help??

U don't have the bonus points to draw in the bonus pass. Random pass basically u take total applicants R and NR and divide by number of tags left after bonus pass. Of course NR are limited to 10% total tags. So if 1000 applicants apply and there's 200 tags after bonus you would 20% odds. There's more factors at play but this a rough way to get an idea of y odds

    Elk draw

Does anyone know for sure if the 5% rule in bonus pass for elk tags was passed for NR? The state was proposing that 5% of NR tags would be reserved for the random draw so most of the tags weren't being all filled in the bonus round. If so, my other question is how do most of you feel this will reflect in NR's draw strategies? I would think the top point holders would apply for a easier tag and lower point holders may chase a premium tag. Idk? Maybe it doesn't really change a lot except for the top point holders to lose a guaranteed a tag or take them longer to draw out.
  17. Thomas11

    Elk draw

Well I would think NR will get the full 5% in the random draw on the "upper end hunts" and probably may not all the lower end hunts due to a small NR applicant pool
  18. Thomas11

    Elk draw

Wapitibob, so why is it the NR won't draw the 5% in the random draw? Your saying basically that because of the number of residents applying the random tags could get filled by residents first before NR fill the 5% since it's not two seperate pools?
  19. Thomas11

    Elk draw

So basically in "random draw" residents and NR compete for the remaining tags and NR aren't neccesarily guaranteed the 5%. It's not two seperate pools for NR and residents in the random draw? Correct
  20. Thomas11

    Elk draw

So basically the residents will get more tags in the bonus pass and NR will get 5% in the random draw, which in the past NR really didn't draw any "random draw tags except the lower end units". NR still get 10%, just allocated differently? Correct? I think it's a win win for everyone
  21. Thomas11

    Elk draw

How does it increase the number of tags residents will draw?
  22. dang! That's all I can say!

    6a archery bull first timer

Guess sometimes we shouldn't draw conclusions before asking! It sounds like you have already done lots of scouting and I can't blame you for burning your points tgere so your kids can tag along! I've drawn this tag as well. PM me if you want to discuss the unit? I have some ideas although I've never been to the unit
  24. Thomas11

    NM Rifle Bull

I think it was 16b that mostly burned a couple yrs ago. I've heard great things about A. I've bowhunted 16c but 16a is supposed to be better hunt
