Should AZGFD eliminate the youth muzzleloader hunt in Unit 16A (Hualapai Mountains)?
Analogkid1014 replied to Capt. Don Martin's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
here is the reply I got back from Amber Munig if anyone is interested in what she had to say, only took 17 days to hear back!! Hello Dustin, The Department offers youth hunt opportunities as a tool for hunter recruitment. The hunts are meant to introduce new hunters to the basic skills of hunting (in an ethical manor that includes scouting, tracking, field dressing, meat preparation, etc). The hunt guideline team received comments about quality and increasing these opportunities. These comments included several that indicated that youth hunts should not be offered during these quality opportunities because of the overall demand and interest in hunting during that timeframe. In the last guideline cycle, the team clearly stated that youth hunts would not be offered in alternative management units. December deer hunt opportunities fall into the “quality” timeframe so, the team decided to clearly state that youth hunts would not be offered during the deer rut. Every hunter wishes to hunt deer in December when the deer are just entering the rut. This is a high demand time period. The Department’s recommendation does not eliminate this youth muzzleloader hunt; it just moves it to November instead of December. Thank you for engaging with us and providing your views. Your comments will be shared with the Commission. Amber Amber Munig Big Game Management Supervisor, Terrestrial Wildlife Branch Arizona Game & Fish Department 5000 W. My wife drew 3a/3c rifle with 2 points this year, tag 99 of 100. Looking forward to helping my wife harvest her first big game animal. Should be a fun hunt as my hunting partner also drew another tag in there this year -
woo hoo wife drew 3c, Our third hunt between us in last 4 years. time to kill another good deer...super pumped considering she only had 2 points

I have sent a letter to the email you have provided in regards to this hunt. I hope it helps, every other cause I have expressed concern about has just been ignored I believe. lets hope they use common sense and keep the hunt the way it is -
Woo hoo, got hit for a tag. Either my wife or I will be chasing muleys in 3c again or chasing Coues deer this December in 23

they are going to do what they want to do regardless of feed back from the public. It is pointless to even attempt to question any of their guidelines and agendas. After several emails from myself and others i know about archery hunts, hunt dates, opportunity, etc....its been pretty clear that they are not willing to listen or change. You ask them for the science or data to explain the idea for change and they dodge the response with answers like "praised for thinking out side the box" and "ahead of the game with innovation". Done asking questions and providing input. Time to start saving up for draws and hunts in other states.

All my friends, family, and myself use are Lures and Artificial Flies At all the trout lakes... For Big lake My go to Lure in a Yozuri Pin Minnow ( type depends on if in boat or shore) but crick hoppers, Rebel craws, Z-Rays, in line spinners all produce well up there. another thing you will almost never see are boats on the lake after dark... We have caught hundreds of quality trout working or trolling lures at night. ^^^ what he said if in a boat troll the lures he described as well as a beaded wooly bugger with a small split shot pegged 3ft above it and you can have a blast......if you can handle the night fishing and have the proper lights you won't be disappointed

Like these guys have said i tend to stick with worms on the bottom or Rainbow and Salmon Peach colored powerbait on a small hook with a 1/8oz slip sinker. I tut the slip sinker on the line, tie a small barrel swivel on the line and then use a 4lb fourocarbon leader anywhere from 18-24". I always start with 24" and work my way to a shorter leader if need be, easier to start that way because you can just trim it down as you go. I prefer this method for sure when the fishing is a little tough and they are not hitting the bait very hard. using a slip sinker over a split shot can help when a finicky fish picks up the bait. Also cannot do wrong with panther martins and z-rays casted out deep and worked slowly back to shore just off the bottom. Good luck and have fun

Nice, looks like a good day!

I would go somewhere else, you will find it to the north and west of forest lakes basically on the edge of town, just search google earth. Not really worth the time unless you have a place there and just want to kill a quick hour

Spent last weekend up north trout fishing, the fishing was definitely on before these fronts came in. Not sure how it will be right now but would guess it will still be pretty good. Caught several nice fish and never had to dunk a worm or powerbait which is nice. All and all a fun trip, now is definitely the time to go.

There are a few lakes in this state that hold some really good quality trout. The trouble is getting them to bite. I tend to stay away from the Rim lakes and head further east to the White Mountains. A lot less people and the fishing is in my opinion a lot better for quality

Recieved my 7E peaks bull tag in the mail today. I will be using piont guard and turning it in and getting my points back. So if you put in for the first bull hunt and didn't get it you still have a chance lol

Any Bison taken in the hunt that ended today
Analogkid1014 replied to Phil Carr's topic in Buffalo Hunting
Like BigBugPete said i know of One bull taken on Saturday, that was it as of Sunday when i left that i know of. The rain made it tough, We got drenching storms almost everyday and that kept them in the park. it was supposed to dry our Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of this week so hopefully others filled their tag -

Go to Big Lake if its not to far, its good sized so even if busy its not to bad. the fish are good sized, fight hard and fishing is really good right now. They tasted great after we smoked them . Woods canyon is zoo this time of year. reserve your rock now to fish on. Hawley is nice but they just refilled the lake and heard they are only catching stockers mostly. Just what i heard

I am heading to Big Lake and Sunrise next weekend for 4 days of fishing, just wondering if anyone has been out in the last few days and how the fishing has been, the reports have been pretty generic. Looking forward to getting boat out and hooking up with some nice hold overs. Last few years have been really good for large rainbows at Sunrise this time of year. Hoping to get on some again this year and some nice bows and cutthroats at Big Lake
