    2017 Power Wagon reviews?

Cheapest local "advertised" price I am seeing locally is about $45,000, so they have probably gone up a little since I was looking. And a correction to my previous post, it looks like the new Power Wagons are now 4.10 gears instead of 4.56. Dodge should have never changed this, but it may have something to do with using the 6.4 Hemi now and/or trying to keep up with the EPA and fuel economy.

    2017 Power Wagon reviews?

Sounds like you have a nice truck, but not the same animal at all. Power Wagon is factory lifted. It has a reinforced frame with additional ladder bracing. Front and rear lockers. 4.56 gears. Throttle response control in 4 low. It also uses 1 ton axle shafts. The Power Wagon also has full skids under the entire under carriage, and they aren't just flimsy crap like some of the other manufacturers put on their trucks. You mentioned the winch. The sway bar disconnect is actually very useful for articulation to keep the wheels on the ground where traction is provided. You are correct I am missing the front posi,it does have the skid plates. My point was my version while lacking some bells ans whistles is about 20k cheaper and still a good off road full size truck. Trust me if money wasnt the issue I would have the power wagon.. When I was shopping for my 2006, I was also opting for a new one. This was in late 2013 and early 2014. I wanted the previous generation due to the shorter wheel base and really didn't need that much space in the back seat area, so ultimately I went used. At that time, and I realize this was 3.5 years ago, a Tradesman Power Wagon could be purchased brand new for $38,000......the dealers were blowing them out due to 2013's still being on the lot and the next model year already out. My buddy bought his new 2013 Tradesman for this price. Maybe the prices have gone up tremendously since then due to the Power Wagon finally catching some popularity??? Not sure.
  4. Good to her. I have heard great reviews on the TTSX, but not much in the LRX. Your experience with the LRX's put a big smile on my face thinking about the meat that will soon be down at the hands of my LRX load......now if I can just shoot as good as Taylor.

  6. Awesome stuff. Look forward to seeing your load development. Do you have any experience with the 145 LRX on game? That is the bullet I will be shooting this year. I'd say to report back on the performance after this season, but I am hoping for my own "report back" by mid-October.

    2017 Power Wagon reviews?

The Power Wagon is a full size, go anywhere do anything truck. I had a 2006 and the truck was awesome. I only got rid of it because my company car was going bye bye and I needed a more fuel efficient truck. A good friend of mine has one as well. His is a 2013' which is the last year of the leaf sprung rear end. They are great trucks and if you are looking for info about them, I would suggest you go to the Power Wagon Registry Forum: http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org

    Backpacking tent and sleeping bag

I ended up purchasing the Hilleberg Soulo. I am fine with a little extra weight to know I have a bomb proof, do it all tent. For a bag I ended up with the REI Magma 10. The bag had really good reviews. It is 850 fill treated down.

    Trekking poles for hunting?

I just picked up a set of Black Diamond carbon poles today. I'll use them on my pack in and pack out of base camp. They will probably stay in base camp while I am out hunting.

    Barbary/Aoudad

Thinking about trying to do an Aoudad hunt. Looks like New Mexico may have some opportunity for public land hunts, although it appears to be a very difficult hunt on public land. Unit 34 appears to have quite a bit of public land. Does anyone have any info or advice on a DIY public land hunt for Barbary/Aoudad in New Mexico?

Nice. Looks like someone could pick up a rifle that is ready to put some meat down for a good price.

    ISO H4350

I found an accuracy node at a little over book max with the H4350 at 41.4 grains using the Berger 140 VLDH. I am not telling you to load over book max, but that is what was best for me. If you load over max charge weights, work up slowly and watch for signs of pressure.

Advice on rifle for son 13yr

6.5 Creedmoor. Lots of factory ammo available at cheap prices. Extremely accurate. Low recoil. My factory Savage shoots sub 1/4" MOA

Outdoorsmans tripod adapter high or low?

Glad this thread was posted. I have the tall adaptor I was running on my 15x56's. I am now running 12x50's and was going to use the tall adaptor on the 12x50's. I didn't know they made a short adaptor. I just ordered one hoping I will be able to keep it attached to the 12x50's and still fit in my bino harness. Thanks for the post.

    Stolen custom rifle

Sorry to hear this. It is sad to think that we can't keep personal property inside our vehicles without a significant risk of theft. I won't leave anything of value in my vehicle anymore after having a range finder, binos and gps stolen a couple of years ago. Thieves are on the same level as pedophiles and rapists and should be put out of their misery.

    Sleeping bags

Here is the bag I picked up and intend to use for backpack hunting this year: https://www.rei.com/product/110922/rei-co-op-magma-10-sleeping-bag-mens It is the REI Magma 10. It is over your budget, but has an amazing warmth to weight ratio. At least for me, I would not want to skimp on a sleeping bag. Trying to sleep when you are cold absolutely sucks. A sleeping bag is something I would gladly pay a little extra for something that I know will perform as intended.

    Barbary/Aoudad

I think it may be possible to still do this through an outfitter. I plan to do this in 2018 or 2019. I couldn't afford to put in yet due to all the other "upgrades" to hunting gear this year. I haven't tallied my expenses yet, but I am pretty sure it is pushing $10k in gear thus far.....thankfully those expenses are almost done for the year. If you want to try to put something together for the next couple of years, let me know. I'd be up for a DIY hunt, but I have heard it will be difficult and it would be tough to scout that far away.

    Berger bullets on Coues...

Last year was my first year trying the Berger 140 VLDH with hand loads out of my 6.5 CM. The deer I shot was right at 200 yards. The deer took 2 steps and tumbled down the hill towards me. This was a double lung shot just behind his left shoulder. The bullet was found mushroomed on the opposite side of the deer up against the skin, the bullet didn't exit the deer. I shot 2 antelope last year with this round, one at 410 yards and the other at 420 yards. Both dropped without a step taken. I didn't recover the bullets, don't remember the exit size. My 6.5 CM is at 2762 FPS.

    Maven B2 11x45's

I'm interested to hear opinions on these as well. Everything I've read says they are a lot of optic for the money.
  24. There are a lot of folks on here that will be happy to help you get started reloading. I just started last year. The 6.5 CM is a great round to start with.
