  1. I made some progress on my reloading bench yesterday after I went shooting. Progress was cut short because my son was itching to break down and clean the 30-30. He is in the East Valley Young Marines. They did a brass cleanup for a cowboy shooting competition out at Rio Salado. When he was done with the cleanup he was begging me to work on my lever gun. I think I will be gifting the 30-30 to him for an 8th grade graduation gift if he keeps his grades at straight A's for the rest of the year.

    Building My Reloading Bench

That is about what I plan on doing. I have some solid 3/4" oak leftover from part of the shelf.mmimthink I will be adding some above and below the existing counter, which will give me 2 1/4" of thickness.

I think I will be taking the advice of others and adding the additional support. I'll be in California for the next week helping out family, so it'll have to wait til I return.

    Building My Reloading Bench

I appreciate all the suggestions. At this point I only have a single layer of 3/4" oak plywood where the press is mounted. The press seems to be very stable and I am not sure I will need to add additional support. I guess time will tell as I start reloading. I was going to build the entire bench, but Lowe's had these work benches on sale for $159.00. I am going to be installing lighting in the ceiling as well. There is a closet to the right of the bench. I plan on building shelving in the closet for all the powder, etc. I am really looking forward to learning how to reload. I can see it becoming addicting. As soon as I can afford it, I will need to get a chronograph. Here is a pic with the press mounted and some of the equipment.

    Building My Reloading Bench

Made some more progress on the bench. The bench is pretty much done. I just need to mount the press and organize the rest of the reloading equipment. Next, it is time to start reloading. Looking forward to learning the skill and shrinking my groups.

    Replace Stock

I ended up purchasing the Bell and Carlson stock so I guess I'll never know how it compared to the factory Accustock. The B&C had a perfect fit. I haven't bedded it yet, but did take the gun to the range today. These are all 5 shot groups using factory Winchester ammo. This gun is gonna put a hurtin' on deer and antelope in Wyoming this fall. Next I'm gonna purchase some Hornady 143 grain ELD-X and see how it groups. That should give me a good starting point for load development. I think if I can improve my shooting and find a good load, I should be able to get the gun to shoot 1/2 MOA. Not bad for an $800 gun with a $250 stock. Not sure why, but the pictures are upside down.
  8. I just picked up this Savage Model 10 Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor and topped it with a Leupold 3x18-44 with lockable turret and Fire Dot reticle. I plan on using it for deer, antelope and target shooting. I am looking for opinions on whether or not a Bell and Carlson M40 Medalist stock would be much of an upgrade over the factory Accustock. I plan on glass bedding either one. I know that Manners or McMillan would be better than either of the above mentioned, but I don't want to spend $600 or more for a stock and don't want to wait months to get it. So, stick with the factory Accustock or go with the Bell and Carlson?

    Replace Stock

Thanks for the info all. Can't wait to shoot this gun, but won't have time until this weekend. I was thinking of trying to bed the action myself, but I have never done it and don't want to screw anything up. Is this something I should attempt on my own, or would I be best served to watch someone else do it first? I've watched videos on YouTube, but watching a video and seeing it in person are not the same. Again, thanks for all the input and advice.

    Replace Stock

I picked it up last night, so haven't taken it to the range yet. Stocky's has the M40 Medalist in stock for $269 right now. Really considering going this route. The Bell and Carlson has full length aluminum bedding and will be stiffer, so it should be better than the Accustock.

    another skinning method

I've used that method a few times. My buddy and I helped a guy haul out his Coues in 36B last November and then skinned his deer using this method....a rock instead of a golf ball though.

    Let's talk tires

I'm running the Cooper STT's on my Power Wagon and really like them. These are 37" and balanced perfectly, they wear well, aren't terribly loud and are fairly easy on the wallet.

    WTB mountain bike

I've got a Gary Fisher hard tail with a carbon fiber frame and a lot of light weight components I may consider selling or possibly working out a trade for or towards hunting gear. In particular I would be looking for nice binoculars in 15x56, possibly a rifle or action to start a custom build, possibly a nice rifle scope. PM or text if interested 760-212-eleven02. I am in East Mesa

    Wyoming 2016/2017

I've hunted antelope in Wyoming a couple of times. I HIGHLY recommend a GPS with hunting maps. Public and private land is "spreckled" together. I have a friend that lives in Casper. Our first day out on our first hunt, we passed on several nice antelope because we weren't sure based on a paper map whether or not the antelope were on public or private. We purchased a GPS with the hunting maps that evening and went out the next day. The GPS Made all the difference in the world. 6 antelope took a dirt nap the next day. Area 72 has a decent amount of public land and plenty of game. I am going back up to Wyoming for my 2016 hunt and I think we will be putting in for 73 as a first choice and 72 as a second choice. We are trying to coordinate this as a deer, antelope and elk hunt, so,still working out the details on where we will hunt. If you have a map and want some advice on area 72, I would be happy to help.
