Yah the boyds add some weight. I slimmed it down a little to try to lighten it but there is a bit more that could be dome if I really wanted to work at it. Plus’ and minus though, extra weight makes the recoil on the 223 non existent

Definitely way better than the factory plastic stock

Everything thats in the stock photo. Like new. located in tempe $225

I would guess 3-400 max. Ive never been big on blowing through ammo and really used this set up as a coyote gun

Its the factory barrel, had it threaded and cerakoted locally. Cerakote was a guy over in mesa, and threading was done by a member. Ive shot it suppressed no issue with concentricity.

I have the original stock, it does good at both, zeroed at 200 virtually no hold over at 300. I was just shooting steel at 300 tho, never shot groups that far

Ive heard a general go by is seat a bullet at least one diameter deep (.243” for a .243 projectile etc) is this for neck tension? Stabilization? Or is this nonsense? Couldnt I seat longer (less than one dia) and crimp for neck tension?

Rifle options - recommendations wanted

So im looking at getting a nicer functioning 223 bolt action than the savage axis I bought years ago, mainly for varmits but I also enjoy shooting targets. For budget I was looking at going with a tikka, howa mini, or cz 527 if I could find one but in the end they end up coming out around $1000. Are there any others im missing I should consider around the $1000 range? I value a smooth bolt, nice trigger, good accuracy over getting a “cheaper gun”. whatever I get will end up cut around 18” for reasonable suppressed length. -

Ive been told the tikka action is smoother and feeds better, if that is true I think that alone would be worth going with the tikka, but that also could be biased. I really need to just go handle both of them somewhere -

The ruger ranch is cool, im still heavily torn between the howa and tikka. It seems there are a decent amount of fit and finish issues people have with the howas but the tikkas seem more consistent. But a carbon stock mini action with threaded barrel right around 5lbs for under $1k is very tempting -
Ive got a like new (used twice) rotary tumbler with 5lbs of steel media and new 32oz bottle of cleaning solution Id like to sell or trade Would be interested in trading for rimfire bolt or lever gun, electronic powder dropper or maybe partial trade towards 357 or sig 365 Would sell for $175

The ar’s arent nearly as quiet suppressed, ive got an 18” ar and tested it next to my 22” bolt gun with the same can, I can shoot the bolt gun no ear pro, the ar is not quite as friendly on the ears. If the ar were quieter I would surely stick with the route you suggested
