Since I dont load I think 20 or 12 will be preferable, I was thinking that 12 might be the way to go with the increase in spread, but a lighter quicker gun may be preferable also. Quail will be its main use.

I guess its not that I am getting caught up in cartridge selection as much as its me trying to find a reason to buy a magnum cartridge to outgun my 308 for elk or bigger game I probably wont ever hunt. But if I am going to go that big might as well try and get the cartridge that has ballistics to out perform 308 significantly. I would like to shoot over 500 but need to put in the time. I always keep an eye out for a new cartridge to try, kind of an un necessary bad habit I have developed haha

Id go shoot with you just to learn how to shoot that far! i can tell you right now my long range rifle skills are not going to be giving anyone a run for their money lol

How would a 7mm rem mag compare? Maybe its a better option for me than the 300wm.

I was considering getting a 30-06 but have a 308 already and seemed like the cartridges are about equally as capable so why not step up to the 300 or 7mm. At the same time I dont really need anything bigger than a 308 for the once every 3 or 4 years I get drawn for elk or deer🤷🏼‍♂️... but I still want a bigger cartridge for whatever reason

What price range would you classify as a quality O/U?

I guess I dont know what the terrain that far south is like, are grassy oak hills common or only in select areas? I dont know what type of terrain Thombstone is in, I have always been western fan and have always wanted to go there. I guess best way to find out is go down there and bring a gun, worst case I imagine I could find some gambels.. would be worth a gambel 🤣

Are there any areas near thombstone that I could find them? I havent ever been there and was thinking maybe I could check it out and do some hunting while I was down there

Dang! We couldnt find any bucks on the 22 whitetail or mule deer hunt! I was trying to get two first timers on some deer but had some other issues come up and kinda screw up the plans.

Went out this last weekend, tons of gambles, shot 7 in about 45min. Would like to tru mearns hunting... never done it

I have never hunted mearns, only gambels, do they taste different? Also are they any different to hunt then gambels? I dont have dogs and havent ever hunted with dogs. Id like to give mearns hunting a try while I scout the southern units for deer
