WHICH COLOR!? Stock replacement
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It seems boyds is the only one who makes stocks for the axis... are there others I missed? -
I will take the tool box and tools if still available

Kicking around the idea of buying a 243. tikka, remington, winchester, others? let me know if you have one you are thinking about parting with. thanks,

Very nice looking rifles!

Nice looking gun. A bit out of my price range
-
Right handed, im not too crazy about the tacticool stuff. Is a nice rifle though.

I am in the same boat. Not a target shooter, just hunter. But Id like to practice targets out to 500 so I can be a more effective hunter

Anybody have a savage axis short action stock? Looking for an upgrade to the factory stock, not anything fancy with thumbholes or target stocks. Just a plain hunter style stock. I may end up ordering a boyds but wanted to see if anybody had anything that may be a little more cost efficient...

Updated listing. See Above

Thanks Recurveman, great advice. I have a 308 and 223 bolt action that I have been shooting with. Maybe I will hold off on getting a bigger caliber for now, and learn to shoot with what I have. I was thinking for bigger game like elk it would be nice to have a 300. I might look to get a 243. I think I just wanted to add to the collection and was thinking going big. I do intend to shoot further, but havent developed those skills yet. My goal for now is to be able to comfortably/confidently hit 500yrds.
-
Good point! I cant hardly shoot 300 from a bench yet haha. Need some practice shooting longer range, that is for sure. I am kind of just getting into shooting any further than about 200 yrds.
-
That is another thing I considered, maybe the weight wouldnt be a bad thing, atleast not when shooting. Though most of the time spend hunting with the rifle will be carrying not shooting

Ive got a hells canyon in 308, great gun! Did have a very hard to open bolt the other day at the range, but im assuming that was ammo caused? sounds like I might pass on the trades and just buy whatever I actually want in the future, I dont think the vangaurd is what I want and not crazy about the weight of the long range. Thanks for all the suggestions! Will update once I have made my decision and purchased!

Frankford Arsenal platinum case trimming and prep station
bowhunter-tw posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
First would like to say thanks everybody for answering my various questions the past few weeks as I begin my journey into the world of reloading! I need to buy a case trimmer now, the manuals seem to be close to the cost of electric trimmers so am considering going the electric route. Anybody use the Frankford arsenal platinum case trimming and prep station or the lyman express trimmer? -
I might consider a suppressor in the future, the price and wait time have steered me away from them currently. The 700’s are good guns, my dad has a few in other calibers. The reason I ask about the weatherby is I have a 45-70 for trade and have been offered a rem 700 long range stainless 300 win mag or the weatherby vangaurd sporter series 1 in 300 win. The Long range looks nice but the weight of the gun un scoped as a hunting rifle is a little off putting. Maybe I shouldnt worry about the weight?

I am not sure what that means haha. But that sounds like it is no longer available😂

300 wm sold?

Very nice rifle. Didn't see a price listed though... not that I could afford that thing anyways! Haha

Frankford Arsenal platinum case trimming and prep station
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think I like the idea of having designated tools for my reloading set up, even if it costs a bit more. The lee look great as a cost effective solution but doesnt look to be the most efficient. After watching a video on the frankford, changing the tooling for calibers looks like a pain, but the debur and chamfer tools look convenient. I think I am leaning towards the lyman and getting a separate “prep center” -

Those look pretty handy for an inexpensive solution. Do the length gauges ever wear down or start producing poor results?
