Getting into Reloading

This makes sense, barely made it through the first sentenced and realized what happens, makes total sense. -
Getting into Reloading

Im in Tempe, Az. I dont completely understand this one, are you saying cause you leave excess space in the case that a powder burns so fast it builds too high of pressure before the bullet begins to leave the case? It is obvious to me that overloading could be an issue, never considered under loading, very interesting. Would make a fun fluid dynamics/thermo dynamics problem. -
Franchi upland elite opinions
bowhunter-tw posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Been thinking about getting a new shotgun to start hunting with instead of my old winchester 1200 pump. Was leaning towards an auto loader. Liked the looks and action of the franchi affinity 3, would probably do the upland elite version pictured. Any experience with them or other gun suggestions? Want to stick with 12 ga, 28” barrel, used for quail and dove, around $1000 max. -
Which rifle to brake?

I wasnt aware of the youth hunt, thats what I was getting at; been in eligible for youth hunts long enough that I dont remember regs and dont have kids yet. Typed words dont do a very good job of portraying sarcasm. I agree 243 is a great cartridge and very capable -
Getting into Reloading

Tons of good advice, I will definitely be re reading this to learn as much from y’alls experience as possible. I have a buddy that reloads and is pretty experienced in it, I think I will go help him a few times to get my head around the process and all steps involved before I dive into getting my own bench set up. JTB, i recently discovered a Forsters co ax press it looks pretty sweet, it is definitely on my list but seems to be sold out everywhere. Looks to be stout and slop free like a single stage but as quick as a turret press on tool changes -
Getting into Reloading

Are there manuals from a specific source that will be more beneficial? I think I might need to get one and read it prior to purchasing the equipment as I dont know all the components I should consider. -
Which Zeiss reticle would you choose?

Dang, that's pretty cool! my only hesitation would be that it restricts you to one load right? other that those sound sweet! Will definitely take a look at them. -
Which rifle to brake?

Maybe I missed something in the regs, Is there a youth doe hunt or something? I didnt think doe were legal here, Either way made myself laugh. Deer I shot with my dad’s took two steps and dropped. .243 is definitely a great cartridge looking for one myself and gonna get into reloading eventually, sounds like you have some great knowledge and experience with that round. -

Uhhh... what state? Not AZ I hope 🤣 -
Before and after on the stock I did with linseed oil and mineral spirits; not perfect but way better IMO. will post picture of barrel after Cold blueing attempt. The last picture is a 12 gauge 870 stock I fitted and re finished for the 20 ga 870 alongside the winchester

I would be interested in having it hot blued, but it typically cost quite a bit and probably isnt worth the cost on the gun I am trying to “restore”.

those turrets are fairly pricey added on top of what you already paid for the scope, what is different about those turrets compared to what comes stock on the scope? -
4th if it makes it that far...

Oh shoot... gotta review the rules

Are these still available?

I think its less about your camo and more about watching how you position yourself, how fast you are moving around, how much you move, how loud... etc I wouldnt worry about camo if it cuts into your budget for other more necessary supplies.

Anybody had anything Cerakoted by a specific business in the valley? (Tempe/Mesa AZ area) I've got an axis II that I am considering having the barrel and receiver Cerakoted for corrosion resistant purposes and looking for suggestions as to who to go to. Also open to other rust preventative options too ( I already oil regularly and take good care of the gun, just want it to last a long time). Thanks

Looks good

Have any of you had experience with the Wicked edge knife sharpening system or something similar? I have a hard time keeping a consistent edge with a regular stone, maybe I just need to spend more time with it and learn how to do it right? But if anybody has had good luck with a system like this would like to hear your thoughts. thanks,
-
Yah they are dang pricey, but if it gives a good edge, and it better be REALLY good, then it might be worth it, especially on an expensive knife. I've messed with the worksharp but it doesnt keep a very consistent edge, definitely wouldnt sharpen a real expensive knife with it.

I have been looking to get a good 22 bolt action rifle that I can throw in the truck or teach new shooters to work a bolt. I found three different actions for sale that might be fun to attempt to restore. The three models are the springfield 86c, glenfield model 25, or the remington 512. The first two are missing stocks the third the bolt. Which would you pick up and attempt to restore and why?

22 LR build suggestions
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Typically will any bolt from another 512 work? Or do they need to be slightly modified/fit to whatever gun they go in?
