Your feeling on the proposed trail camera restriction (ban)
tomharveyb replied to Capt. Don Martin's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Here's food for thought...they banned campfires last friday, someone started the tinder fire with a campfire. They banned camping except at approved places- nobody seems to pay attention. They closed lots of roads on national forests, nobody pays attention. How are they going to enforce this? -
Good job-congratulations!

It would be nice for this thread to end. U of A fans will always hate ASU and ASU fans will always hate U of A. Lets all go fishing!

Got it- I didn't realize elk/antelope 2018 was posted yet. Thanks. Easy to see how it happened. Even 4a with double the # of tags from the previous year , 4 points wasn't a slam dunk.
-
And BC777- where do you get such detailed information?
-
Ahhhhh. Now it makes sense- thanks.

Maybe someone can help with something related. My grandsons had 4 bp's and drew their 2nd choice youth elk tags- 4a. 5bs/6a was first choice, which has 500 tags. Their tag #'s are 34 and 35. How could they draw such low tag #'s and not get their first choice? They would have to have issued all 500 tags for their 1sr choice for that to happen and the odds for the 2 hunts are pretty similar. I'm not complaining because they still have good tags- just trying to figure how this scenario is possible.

My daughter hit and killed a young cow elk several years ago near Clints Well. I called G and F to ask if I could salvage the meat. They told me to call the local sheriff and he would meet me and issue a salvage tag and yes I could salvage the meat. I followed all the rules, never got a return call, and the elk spoiled. Total waste. Why make rules if law enforcement doesn't do their part.

What are you guys' thoughts on using a .243 for cow elk. We have 2 youth tags this year. One of my grandsons has shot a .243 up till now .
-
you can still use cameras on trails, fence crossings, naturally occurring water - if I'm reading it correctly

Nobody expected much from ASU going into the season. Then the great start. Everybody expected great things from U of A going in. Both crashed and burned, plain and simple

complete collapse- losing in the first round to Buffalo

ooh sounds like some people are a little sensitive these days

pac 12 looking not so much good

I hunted unit 8 last year and scouted it hard as well. My advice- skip Garland Prairie, They just aren't there , at least not last year. Hunt the pines around the open flats, or go down by Drake and Putney Flat. I killed in the pines, but it can be a real challenge finding them.

another thing that will be interesting- FBI recordings and what will happen as a result. If they exist
-
oh well..........................................., at least ASU got the fans back in the seats. next season will be interesting..

The creedmoor it will be- if he shoots it well. My other grandson is a lot bigger and will use a .270 w. 130 gr. I just wanted opinions on .243 because he shoots it without any problem. I would rather have a good shot with a .243 than a poor shot with anything bigger.
-
Creedmoor kicks a little harder than .243 with 100 gr. .243 vs 140gr creed, but I think at this point it's mostly a mental thing .... If they think it will kick more, they think about it and it affects their shooting. We'll work on it this summer and decide which one he shoots better. Thanks to all who responded. Kind of reinforced my thinking that a .243 would be adequate, if not ideal. Either way, it's exciting to be taking the kids out. No tags for me, but I'm just as excited to take them. First elk tags after trying for 3 years.
-
Thanks for the generous offer, but I have a 6.5 creedmoor that he can use if he proves he can shoot it well.

I'm disappointed in how the Devils finished, but optimistic for the future. I think Hurley has them headed in the right direction. Some good recruits coming in.
