So after 7 days of hard hunting, I finally connected. I was up at 4 and out at daylight each day, hunting in the trees , with no luck finding lopes at all. On day 7 I went out to Putney Flat and glassed up 13 about 2 miles out and 3 more about 3/4 mi. away with a good buck. I spent the next 4 hours trying to get in muzzy range, which for me meant 200yds. or less. Finally went back to the truck when the buck and 2 does randomly took off and ran aboout a mile. On my way back to camp, I decided to check a small park area and there he was by himself. Not a big one, but decent enough for me at that point. An easy stalk, and a 200 yd shot and my hunt was over. At 68 with bad knees, it will be my last antelope in Az., unless I'm the luckiest man on earth and draw again- very unlikely! All in all, a good hunt, but not easy by any means. I hunt for the enjoyment of being out there, and the change from the city life. Mission accomplished.

Identical thing happened to me on a muzzleloader antelope hunt a good number of years ago. I ended up going home empty handed. Talked to g and f about it and they were not interested. I feel your pain!

I've hunted 34a a lot. That is very realistic. I would pass up a 130 deer till last day tho.

Have to admire anyone who'll hunt sheep with a bow. Double that for someone 80. Best of luck to you! -
You got me!! My portal doesn't show anything. Now you got a whole bunch of people scrambling to check theirs . And yes that's amazing- 3 years in a row for antelope and elk!
-
Really like my Ranger as well. Got it for $5500 with 97 hours on it. Not fast- a little over 40mph but indestructable and will haul a whole elk.

just subtract your available credit from your card's limit=pending charges

The good part about doing it your own way is that you will get to put in for the draw in the following years as well.

You've got elk in your pictures with the lopes-very cool!

Here's some info all you guys who have never done this hunt but seem to jump to your own conclusions should know. THEY DON'T BLOCK THE ROADS!!! They stop and talk to anyone driving into the roads near the salts, tell them what's going on, and ask them to please not drive there for obvious reasons. I was interviewed in my blind by a Wall Street Journal reporter , of all things, who drove up within 200 yards, got out, slammed their door, and walked on over. Probably wouldn't have been able to do that if the road was blocked. Some people need to get their facts straight before they go off half-cocked. I for one , enjoyed the whole process of cooperation, and will try again, if drawn. At least you are hunting a free range bison. If you didn't get a bison on this hunt, move on. No whiners please!!!

Don't worrry, after the "government" guys come up with a plan and send in their hired snipers. This hunt will be a thing of the past.

The guy I met up there stated because he didnt pay the premium package he was left in a tent and his mountain house meals without any invitation to join conversation in the evenings eventhough he was at their camp. He felt very unwelcomed. When I spoke to the regional azgfd manager over this area he stated that they have told Russ multiple times about his behaviour and it seems to not improve. Ill keep posted as to what if they do anything involving my experience. That's pure BS Everybody gets together night and morning to discuss. All but 1 of the 10 hunters were non-paying and no one was left out. Brian is the guide and he is top notch as others have said. Most of you guys are badmouthing things you have only heard about from others.

Here's your other option-put in for the Raymond Ranch hunt. Go out with a game and fish employee to the bison eating hay , he points to the one to shoot. You shoot it. Done. Wahooo. At least on the Kaibab you are hunting animals that have some say in what happens, no matter how long and boring it is till it happens.
-
Here's a diff. viewpoint...I sat 14 looong days in one of Russ's blinds last year. Didn't see a cow, could have killed a bull, had a cow tag. Didn't hire Russ but helped out voluntarily with some $$ and salt blocks. 3 guys killed bison, none of them paying clients. All but one were the result of radio calls that bison were on a salt. Russ and his guys cut up their animals and packed them out (one by backpack out of a canyon), and got them to the camp cooler. Here's the reality of this hunt- a loud fart will send them running back into the park. So will huntersd running around doing their own thing.
