Three of us went out on Saturday and caught about 60 or so. Sunday only a hand full for two of us. Seems they are moving. Just need to find them again. Probably heading toward the coves. Every thing on Saturday were full of eggs. Dave.

Proposed bill HB2235 requires Game and Fish Commisioners to have had a hunting liscense for the 5 years preceding his appointment and also must have lived in Arizona for 10 years prior. The Game and Fish Dept. is against this because it takes their status as Kings of Arizona away. I think it is about time that actual Hunters and Fishermen should be making decisions about hunting and fishing in our great state. Please contact your representative about voting yes on HB2235. I have written every rep. in the state to vote yes on this prop. Most sent me back a generic E-mail saying that if I am not one of their constituants dont bother them. So please contact your Rep. I did get a nice reply from FRANK ANTENORI: Dear Mr. Hawkins, As a life long hunter I couldn't agree with you more. We need hunters and fishermen making decisions that effect hunters and fisherman. Regards, Frank You can read the bill at the following link HB2235.htm

Southwest Wildlife Taxidermy 480-661-1372 Jim Hartsock. I have been using Jim for several years now. He is a great guy and a top notch artist. He's put his talent to work on quite a few deer and elk for me and my family over the years. He is out by WestWorld in Scottsdale.

Your only problem is you went to Sportsmans warehouse. They haven't had anything since November of last year. I have been buying most of my stuff from the internet and Cabelas. I haven't had any problems. Every year in January and Feb. stock is down but with this economy I don't think the stores are ordering very much. Most of the wholesalers I talk too say they have plenty of stock it is just that the retail stores aren't ordering it. David

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
hawkeye replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The whole problem isn't with ordering it's with the whole workforce. No body I talked to wanted to help and some of them just laughed, like I wasn't in on the joke. And four months of the same bare shelves isn't just a lack of ordering it tells me that they don't intend on doing anything about it. I used to love the store and spent thousands of dollars there in the last few years but not anymore. In the last 4 or 5 months they have chased me away. Amanda I sure am sorry to bash a supporter of this site, but I sure don't think I would count on anymore support because I don't think they will be in business any longer. It's just not the same store it was in the past. If you had seen how rude I was treated and the total lack of give a crap attitude. It is amazing the difference from a few months ago. -
I am not a Republican or Democrate and you can hate Obahma all you want but the fact of the matter is that 8 years ago you had more money in your 401K and a job. The country had a surplus of money and it was Bush and the republican run House and Senate that let the billionairs screw this country like never before and put us in this mess. Now I can't understand how any one who makes an hourly wage can be behind any group that stole your money, gave billions in bonus money and then had the gall to ask and get 800 billion more. I hate the Republicans for what they have done to this country, but don't get me wrong I hate the left wing liberals also. As long as there is no middle ground to work with we are going to be in this mess for years.
-
We can blame the Republicans and we can blame the Democrats all we want, but the only ones to blame with this mess is all of us. We let every corporation send every job overseas to save money and now no one has any money to buy all the Chineese made crap. When was the last time you bought anything made in America? I have always tried to buy only American made merchandise. Well that is over, I can not find hardly a damned thing made in the U.S.A. any more. We have become a nation of consumers and we don't make anything any more. After years of buying rat jap cars and trucks and sending your money to other countries and thinking, well it doesn't affect me. Well guess what it's affecting you now. Every time you bought a shirt made in India or a pair of shoes made in Korea it affects you. Now after many years of Walmarts low prices we are paying the price. Think about every time you save a dollar by buying a cheaper item made overseas you put an american out of work. Now after years and years of saving that dollar we don't have that dollar to spend because we have eventually sent all of the jobs out of the country. You have heard of TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS, well this is the true affect of it.

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
hawkeye replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It wasn't just the reloading supplies, I just mentioned that because they were the most bare shelves. But the whole store has nothing but empty shelves. I haven't tried to buy primers lately because I have plenty from the last run, but I haven't had any problems with any other components. I've been ordering fron Nachez, and Cabelas for brass. powder, and bullets. I went to the front desk to ask what was going on, and they laughed and said they didn't know what I was talking about. There were two other guys standing next to me and when they heard my complaints they both said they had asked the same question with no answer. So I'm not the only one voicing my concerns. I won't bother to shop there any more. My time is too valuable, to waist it on a company who doesn't seem to care. I used to be a loyal customer. I'll bet that they go out of business within a year, and blame it on the economy. The last 6 times I tried to shop there, I left empty handed. Also the last couple of times I went, there wasn't very many people in the store. -
My son scored on this nice 361 bull on the 22nd but the friday before he missed a 390 to 400 class bull at 30 yards. When he got back to camp he was sick. After checking his bow he found it had changed. He was shooting 20" low. Don't know what happened but he re-sighted in and connected with this great bull a few days later. Brow tines are 20" long

Here are some pics of me with his bull
-
Thanks Oh yea. He is not upset at all with this bull. He passed on a lot of bulls because he wanted a big one. I think this qualifies. It was a hard hunt, and He worked very hard.

Not really. I liked the tip so I bought a bunch. I like them but I don't think they are any better than the tipped tsx. They came out with the tipped tsx after I bought the MRX. I am having great luck with both. My son is using a 176 grain Berger Bullet, and just bought a leupold Mark 4 LR scope and I watched him shoot a 3 inch group at 900 yards. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
-
I am pushing 3760 fps. with my Remington Sendaro .300 ultramag. I am using 104 grains of RL25. with 150 grain barnes MRX. I shoot a 3.75 inch group at 500 yards. I can shoot out to 800 yards but my longest shot at game so far is a coues at 500 yards. One shot, one kill. I shot a muley last year at 250 yards in the head. People like to argue ethics about long range shooting. It all depends on the equipment you have and the practice you put in. It also depends on the conditions, like no wind, target not walking, and what kind of rest you can get. I am not saying I won't miss, but I won't take a shot without the right conditions. I have seen some hunters , who shouldn't even be taking 150 yard shots. Most people who like to argue ethics of long range shooting know nothing about what it takes.
-
When reloading my 300 Ultra Mag. if I seat the bullet just off the lands, the rounds will not fit in the magazine. I had to seat where they would just fit. I was lucky they are very accurate. Sub 3/4 inch at 100 yars. I am reloading 104 grains of RL25 with 150 grain Barnes MRX. They are blazing at 3750 fps.

Congratulations to all who drew. I think I am finally done. Too much dissapointment and hassle. After 45 years of hunting it's time to look for another way of life.Think I'll save my money and travel. Good luck to all of you who get to hunt this year. If I sold all of my hunting gear, I probably could buy a new house. Ha Ha!

Could you tell me how your wife bought the tag? I spent 7 hours in line to buy one and didn't get one. I never saw a woman in line. All I can say is glass, glass and then glass some more. And don't settle for a small one. You should be able to find a really nice buck durring that hunt.

G&F opposes Constitutional right to hunt
hawkeye replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The game and fish in Arizona want to rule with an iron fist and oppose anything that takes away their "God" status. It is the largest unpoliced agency in the state. They do what they want and if someone opposes them they start the fear campaign. I used to agree with their policies until I saw years of money grubbing manipulation of the a Arizona sportsmen. I have become so bitter with the agency, that I hate to say that I agree with any law that will put some accountability in the agency. It has turned into a well oiled machine that will run right over us if we let it. And so far we have let it. If something isn't done, Only the rich and well off will be hunting in just a few years. Just ask anyone from Europe. We are allready headed in that direction. I know that most people think that the Game and Fish in Arizona have their best interest in mind, and if you believe that I have some swamp land in Florida for sale. Call me. -
I shoot a Rem. Sendaro 300. Ultra Mag. With a Weaver Tactical scope with Mil dot. I can shoot 10 inch. groups at 1000 yds. One thing to consider though. Last year I shot my coues at 550 yds. accross a deep canyon only a mountain goat could cross. I shot it at last light. The only way I could find it was by putting my spotting scope on it and have my hunting buddy watch as my flash light came into veiw. I made the shot at 5:30 and I reached the deer at 9:00 pm. I didn't get back to the truck until midnight. I have done similar hunts in the past. What I am saying is, that you should use your head after taking long shots. Don't just take off after the dead animal without a plan. It can be hard to find an animal that has been shot at over 500 yds. even if they drop in their tracks. Dave

salt and feed no more in 2009
hawkeye replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I disagree, the problem isn't our inability to police our own. It is the inability of the voters of Arizona to police the comunistic control the Governor and AZGFD have on this state. Government only works with checks and balances. The AZGFD answer to no one but the Governor. When next voting for our Governor we need to be asking what direction he plans to take the AZGFD. How many times have we rallied to the meeting only to find they do what ever they want. I now hate the Arizona Game and Fish Dept. tactics more than the 1970's tactics of the IRS. -
I have hunted the res. a few times and enjoyed the hunts, but I will never hunt their again because of the three ring circus it is to get a tag. I have too much self respect, to let them treat me like a begging fool. And that is exactly what I was last week. I stood in line for seven hours trying to get a jan. tag. but I didn't get one. After watching several gudes bypass the line and take most of the tags there weren't very many left. Then an indian came out of the office and said if you don't get a tag they would try to work with us to try to help everyone in line. What a load of crap. Instead of getting pssd I'll just turn my hunting to other states.

Last year I called the night before they were to go on sale to verify that it was still on. I was told by some maggot that they had posponed the sale untill the next day. I should have known it was B.S. I found out later that they went ahead and went on sale that day. Good luck finding out any credible info from them. You can tell when their lying. "Their lips are moving"

Ha Ha! what draw? They just award tags to anyone and any way they want. Do you know anyone who has witnessed the draw? It is some kind of secret ritual. My wife and I put in separately to increase our odds. We both got our second choice unit 5A bull tags this year. Oh happy day, happy day. Then I looked at the permit numbers. I had #24 and my wife had #25. The odds of both of us getting our second choice in concecutive numbers are about the same as winning the Power Ball. I had about 7 points and my wife had 8 points. I was happy to be hunting, but it proves to me that there is no actual draw. I think they just take the points and give out tags to who ever they want.
