I met Jim at Bucky's when I moved to Prescott Valley about 2 years ago and have purchased a few items from him....great guy and cool little shop! And yes, I have asked him to bring out the stash from the back on occasion. He's got some nice stuff back there, but it's tough sometimes to get him to part with some of it.

Hello, I was referred to this forum by a good friend of mine (a non-resident) and I am finding some good information here. Will be putting our place up for sale in Washington State just after the first of the year and thinking that Prescott will be our new home. I have been hunting for over 35 years and most of that has been in Washington State, some in upper Michigan, and recently I have begun archery hunting in Idaho for elk. I have killed several deer with the bow and a few with a rifle, but this year was my first elk kill and it was with my bow. Took a very healthy cow this year at 9,300 feet elevation and a distance of 10 yards or so. What an adventure to say the least. I have been discussing the elk tag drawing system with some of my fellow hunters and it seems that some have waited a long time to finally get drawn. In fact, some have never gotten drawn after 15 or more years of trying. Then others have been drawn 3 times in 5 tries. I will continue my Idaho hunting and once I get relocated will put in for AZ. Washington State is a tax/money driven state and their tag system is over the counter for the most part, but highly restrictive when it comes to big game. Anyway, I look forward to meeting some new folks! Tom

I find that every part of this country has something different to offer and new stuff to explore/discover. My wife and I enjoy hiking and checking out new areas so I think we will be able to keep busy for years to come. We have not yet visited Colorado or Utah and look forward to getting up to those areas as well. Plenty of water up there if I need to soak a fly. Will check in more often as we get closer to the move early in 2016. Assuming the house sells quickly, we could be in the area by mid/late February. In the meantime, I will be checking out the job opportunities and hopefully get something lined up prior to the move.

I have no problem hunting elk late season. Currently I hunt Idaho starting on August 30th, and the bulls are just starting to get a bit antsy at that time. Later Sept. is better for rut, but personally I like being in the woods opening day. Thanks for the heads up on the Nov. hunt, I will study the regs and get with you guys when I get down there so I can take advantage of your knowledge on the draws, etc. As mentioned, a buddy of mine here is WA has been hunting North of Prescott for several years with good success. I look forward to getting boots on the ground! One question I have is do you have grouse? And if so, what type and are they legal to hunt? We have Sage, Blue, Ruffed, Spruce, etc. in WA/ID

Thanks, I have already been looking into contractor licensing in AZ. I spoke with the local contractor assoc. and also the state. My current business bonding/insurance will transfer no problem and as for testing, since I have been in business in another state I will only have to take a portion of the test. I will be checking in with some of the local builders in the meantime to see if I can get a project manager/superintendent or similar job. Or possibly partner up with someone who is reputable. It will be tough going from an owner to punching a clock, but you got to do what you got to do to keep the lights on! On another note, I see you have horses. I have been fortunate enough to hunt with some great guys here and was part owner of 12 head including a few mules. Nothing better than getting into the Bob Marshal and other wilderness areas with horses!!! I miss those days. We did the High Early at Buck Creek Pass many times, some incredible memories for sure. I will certainly look you up when I get down there. The photo below was taking on a fly fishing float trip down the Yakima River in WA. Rivers and streams are certainly going to be missed.

I just hope that AZ is able to fight off Bloomberg and his followers.........they bought out this past election in Washington and unfortunately those who believe in the 2nd Amendment were outnumbered and more importantly out-spent when it came to political ads.......a real shame!! And recently, the Lib's on the Seattle City Council voted to impose a 5 cent per round tax on ALL ammunition sold in the city limits......5 CENTS PER ROUND! And to top that, they added a $25 "City Tax" to each gun sale. Needless to say, they are trying to push gun shops out of the city limits.......and it's working!

Thanks to all of you for the kind/warm welcome.......I am very much looking forward to the move and getting to know some new folks in the area. I would certainly like to connect with those of you who live in the Prescott area, I appreciate any knowledge I can get from the locals. There are a few guys in the Prescott and Chino areas from some of the gun and ammo forums that I have made connection with already. Besides hunting and fly fishing, I am an avid shooter/reloader and looking forward to being in a non-communist state for a change! I am the owner/operator of a successful general contracting business for the past 30 years and although the Seattle area has lots of $$$......it's gotten out of control and it's time for a life change. Wish I could say that I am moving down there to retire, but unfortunately I will have to find a paycheck to keep the lights on, so I may start my own company in AZ or find a reputable contractor to work for a while. Or maybe I will go in a completely different direction. Will be listing this place for sale by mid January, and if the market stays as hot as it is right now, it should not take very long to sell. I will miss the Eastern side of Washington for sure, but since we live in the overpopulated Seattle area there will be no regrets about getting out of here. 30 years worth of rain/clouds has left a layer of moss on my back......it's time to dry out! And don't get me started on the politics!

Ah, now I get what you are telling me.....good plan! Will make that one of my "to do's" when I get my residency.

Yes, there is some gorgeous country in Idaho, Montana and Washington, but Idaho is by far my favorite. That said, I am very much looking forward to getting out in the woods in AZ......

Thanks guys, I appreciate the welcome. As for hunter safety, is that something a new resident would have to do in AZ if he/she has already been hunting in other states? In Idaho for example, as long as you have purchased a tag in another state you are waived taking the course. I am 51 years old and have been buying tags for 35 years....... Tom
