Kifaru vs Stone Glacier packs... Which One??
Trapdoor replied to Coues Archer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I ordered the Kifaru frame and Woodsman a couple weeks ago and am anxious to get it! -
I have a Varminter in 17 Ackley Hornet. Coopers are addictive and are very accurate. I have several groups in the. 250" range. If I still lived in a place where I could do more varminting, I would have more. I am varmint rifle rich and varmint shooting poor right now. They are beautiful rifles, and several models are classy. Finding a Cooper that does not shoot is more of a chore than finding a load for your Cooper.

I received the Nightforce tripod about 2 weeks ago. I am having a hard time finding a second QR plate to quickly switch between spotting scope and binoculars. The tripod is very nice though and I am looking forward to using it in the field. I just upgraded spotting scope from Leupold Golden Ring 12-40x60 to a Swarovski STS 80mm. The Nightforce tripod and Swarovski spotting scope is a little less than one pound heavier than the Leupold and my old Vanguard tripod. I am very pleased with that fact. I may use the trekking poles when needing a little stability for packing meat, but doubt I will use them for everyday use. Nice tripod.

We recently purchased a house that included dog kennels that we have no use for. I am not a dog person so have no idea as to whether these are useful to others. Any recommendations for locating information as to what they are or how to dispose of them? Thanks

I had no idea there was some value there. Are we talking $20 or $200? I don't want to get full value, but also don't want to bend over; benefit both parties mutually. Approximately 26' wide x 20' deep, 6 bays with individual doors. As seen in photos, outside panels are "half height" and there is no back panel as it against the wall. There is also chain link and wire fencing on top. To me, it makes most sense for whoever gets these to take them apart on site so they can see how they go together and mark them with their system for reassembly. Thanks for the help!

Rips My heart out...

Given current Ramadan, here is a short little story from 1998. Chad was a very good friend in high school and his uncle is my uncle. There was quite a national fuss at the time, but I still chuckle at the memory! Still appropriate to me... https://datacide-magazine.com/bomb-graffiti/

I love the color too, but like you say, keeping clean is impossible. Gets dirty just sitting in the driveway...

20A. Lots of work to do before the opener.

I'd be happy to meet up with you! I'm booked for the next couple weeks with work and holiday travel and I can't say I can offer any Arizona experience, but I'm looking for a buddy too. If nothing else, maybe we can have a beer together? In a couple months I'll be hunting javalina for the first time! I have lots of learning to do!

Pick that up at Sayer? I bought a Ram there when living in Alpine WY. Elk smashed that one just outside Alpine... Is that Max Steel? My new Ram is Max Steel...

I'm new to Arizona and am trying to wrap my mind around boat launch use fees. Haven't seen this before in other states. Given all the other fees I pay, unfortunately I haven't launched my boat here due to my principles. I hope to come around soon and just pony up the additional money... All my other money in fees is supposed to pay for this, I feel. If I saw a government official use a ramp closed to me and lock it up behind themselves, I'd go ballistic... What is up with paying to launch your boat here?

Come on folks, Classic sasquatch tree breaks... They did it for a reason. Means stay out for any bipedal non-squatch!

Having lived in Wyoming grizzly country for 12 years, never once while hunting did I carry a sidearm or feel the need for one. Common sense is much more important than a handgun, especially a marginally effective one (for grizzly), even when covered in blood. Only time I got a little spooked was quartering an elk after dark and the wolves were howling nearby. That being said, the .357 with hard cast would be the better choice. Sooner or later, being in the way of everything, it can be moved to inside your pack and then left at camp the next morning. And the one on guard duty will be much better served to help with the dead animal than looking for a threat that has little chance of materializing. Contrary to popular belief, the sound of a shot in the forest is not a dinner bell for grizzly bears. Hope this helps.

My First Buck Taken on Veteran's Day

Late to the party, but what the heck... What hunting gear do you spend the most time using? For me its binoculars by multiple factors. So, I put my money into binos about 12 years back when I made my trip to Africa. Single best decision I made, because as it turns out, I use them all the time, not just hunting! Swaro's are the gold standard, for both binos and spotting scopes. My second most used piece of gear is the spotting scope of which I currently use the Leupold HD. Have always been tickled pink with it, until this year when my hunting buddy upgraded his Leupold to a Swaro. He went on a stalk after a good mule deer buck and I put his Swaro next to mine watching the buck. By shifting 24" back and forth looking at the exact same view, I now will be upgrading to the Swaro spotter to accompany the Swaro binos. Unbelievable, the difference! My second best decision was putting those Swaro binos on a tripod mount. That took my use of the binos from used most to used almost exclusively, only switching to the spotting scope to dissect an anomaly or look at horn. The only problem with the Swaro spotter is the minimum power of 20x. That 12x of the Leupold is very handy and I wish like heck that a 12x eyepiece was available for the Swaro...

All Wyoming tags for antelope are limited quota, so no-go on the over the counter option... In the past, you could pick up one or two leftover doe/fawn tags over the counter, but don't think it is likely any longer, due to internet sales of leftovers grabbing them all up. If any do make it to vendors, they will go fast... There will be no buck tags over the counter. Some units have really gone down hill for draw. My favorite unit was around 93% draw odds five years ago. Last year it was under 30% for resident, probably 0% non-resident, but haven't looked. Remember, I have been looing at stats as a resident and this year will be first time to look at non-resident stats. Some units are easy to draw, but those units typically have a high percentage of private land and limited public. Be sure to keep that in mind. Getting permission for private can be done, but it is seldom free. I go back and forth to Wyoming frequently, will be up there in a couple weeks. Happy to help you guys. Just let me know what you need. Red Rabbit: Great goat!

Let me know if you have any questions or need anything. I may be able to give some guidance...

Being a former Wyoming guy, I will always hunt there. I haven't drawn a limited quota tag since 2012 and now that I am now a non-resident, have no points. Residents don't get points there. But I will hunt with my buddies regardless if I have a tag. What unit will you put in for?
