No problem buying used Swarovski, I just make sure the seller is willing to transfer the warranty before I send money. No big deal. Much better than overpaying for Chinese optics just because they’ll replace your crap no questions asked.

i have a hard time believing it's much better than my manfrotto 701rc2 that i got on ebay for $60. outdoorsmans may be a 5 or 6 oz lighter but that manfrotto is such a great head for big glass.

I’m just curious what big glass did you switch to and how does it compare to these highlanders?

Packing in the big glass ever a bad idea??
Hatchet Jack posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
this past year i bought a couple kowa 664s and made them into some 30x66 big eyes, they weigh 7 lbs. They are phenomenal and it obviously really extends my effective glassing range while scouting in big country, but i've never used them to find animals i'm looking to shoot that particular trip. I'm going to backpacking in 3-4 miles and staying the duration of my Nov 8th coues hunt, and i'm planning on hauling the kowas around to go with my 12x50 ELs. i'm wondering if anybody has ever lugged around the extra weight of the big optics and found it was a waste of energy. Also, do you guys find the high powered binos/btx to be more effective than 12/15x at finding bedded bucks midday? I was thinking they may be nice to do really detailed glassing into the shadows at closer range. -

Yeah I think you guys are right I’ll regret if I dont take them. I looked through the btx on a 65 and it was really dim to me. I’ve really enjoyed the kowas and I’m hoping they’ll be handy for glassing bedding areas at that 1200-1800 yd range. -

I just feel a little under powered even when I had 15s and was trying to find bedded deer or deer in heavy cover if it was anything over 1200 yds. And I can’t do the one eye glassing. I shoulda mentioned I have a buddy coming and we’re only packing one gun and the other can pack the kowas if I decide to take them. The 2 bucks I’m targeting hang in pockets on either side of the canyon so I’m trying to get to points I can see it all but it requires me to start a little farther back then move in once I find them. I’ll probably pack them then at the very least I got some good exercise 😁 -

Flying solo unit 33 2nd hunt
Hatchet Jack replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
when i've hunted coues solo it's a huge help when i'm able to film my shot through the spotter. It's nice when the dust settles and you can immediately go to the video and see what happened and where you hit. -
Kowa 662 spotter (straight) SOLD. $450 shipped
Hatchet Jack replied to no worries's topic in Classified Ads
I’ve heard these models are very close to the 663/664 prominar models optically. If that’s the case this is a steal. The eyepiece alone is worth $250. -
I use a 701rc2, it’s the big brother to the 700. I use for my 7lb dual spotters and it’s great. Not made anymore but can find on eBay.

I’m also a big fan of meopta glass. But I do think it’s worth looking at the gpo too. I only used them looking down the street at gila outdoor but I thought they were very good and I love how sleek and light they are but still quality made.
-
What a deal. Heirloom quality glass. Easy on the eyes and build quality as good as any.
-
They list the fov as 236’ for the 12s. That’s on par with most high end 15s. If that’s correct then those will be a terrible option.

I made my own with $30 worth of aluminum plate for my kowa 664s. Works good and optically they are amazing. The 30x wide angle kowa eyepieces are money. -
15x Side by Side Comparison 2/16/19
Hatchet Jack replied to Flatlander's topic in Optics and tripods
I would like to hear other guys take on the 15slc hd vs 12EL. I’ve compared them a lot because I get 15x envy every now and then. To my eyes the ELs just have better detail and the extra power of the 15s isn’t as apparent because of this. Also the 12s do mid range glassing much better. Obviously the SLC are amazing glass, I just prefer the view of the ELs. For these reasons I’m holding onto my 12s but interested to hear others experiences -
