    30A Whitetail Newbie

Thanks Tony, talked to the Douglas ranger district. He told me to download the Avenza app for smartphone to know exactly where I am, and whether it is forest or private land. Lol @ GreyGhost And 5 guys I meant the 27th, whoops.

    30A Whitetail Newbie

Hello all, I've lurked coues for a little over a year now, but finally decided to make a profile with hopes that somebody might have some advice for my upcoming 30A coues hunt. Last year I had my first ever hunt in 33 for muley. I was lucky enough to bag a little 2x2 with the help of a buddy of mine, a Tucson native. I put in for 33 again this year for whitetail instead, and also bought my girlfriend a license and put in for her as well. Neither of us got drawn, so we put in for leftovers, and ended up with two 30A whitetail tags that start this Friday, Nov 17th. I've gone on a couple weekend scouting trips, both in the Pedegrosa mountains coming in on Rucker Canyon Rd, and camping at Fort Rucker. Climbed a couple mountains South of Camp Rucker, but found the whole area was heavily wooded and wasn't able to spot any deer through the thick. On my second scouting trip I went SE on Rucker Canyon Rd untill the trees started to thin out, and hiked some mountains there, but was constantly being hassled by ranchers who lived in the area. I was sure on my map that I was on forest land, but nearly everywhere I went, somebody was unhappy that I was there. I haven't tried scouting the Dos Cabezas mountains since I've read the access problems are even worse, and figured it'd be hunted dry by the time my late hunt starts, but I'm not sure what to do now since the area I've spent the majority of my time seems futile. Was hoping any of you guys might now of a better place with easier mountain access that I ought to focus my efforts. I'd be happy to share the meat with anyone willing to help! Thanks, -Miles
