    Tips for boning out meat

Before I got my first elk i bought the outdoor edge video set on how to quarter and debone an animal in the field. It also came with a basic butchering video and game processing video. I've watched them several times. You are welcome to borrow them. Pm me your address if you want. He uses a small cow elk in his video.

Anyone still need to kill an elk on the 3c late archery tag?

Nice of you to put that out there.

    Watch those replaceable blades knives

I was also surprised how many guys have cut themselves. This is a big eye opener for me. I also think rossislider had an old post I read about the gloves. They have been a godsend. And its great because after use I just toss them in the washing machine and they are good to go. I used to just glove the left hand and keep the right hand ungloved. Not with muliple people working on an animal though. Everyone should probably have both gloves on. Had a buddy cut my finger once with a regular walmart knife. Only think that stopped it from going deeper was my fingernail. Had it been a havolan type I would not have been so lucky.

    Skull bleaching question

Thanks rossislider I was hoping you would chime in. I would add to wear gloves when pressure washing. They can cut skin and inject water onto your hands and fingers.

    Skull bleaching question

What are you guys adding to the water you boil in to remove the flesh? And do you use the same thing once it's clean to get the grease out of the bone? It's been years for me. I vaguely remember borax?
  16. It was an honor to be a small part of this hunt. Levi and his brother Duggan both had tags. Levi filled his archery tag in the summer hunt so donated the rifle tag to Carlton through hunts for heroes. Jayce from H4H came out to help along with Gale who is also Duggans father in law. Since Levis bro still had a tag they decided to all hunt together. Last night they had spotted two bucks and left them for first light. By the time I got there this morning Jayce was at the trucks keeping an eye on the bedded bucks and the guys were already in position on a ridge waiting for them to stand up. Once the big buck got up be made his way to an opening and a shot rang out. Clean miss. A minute later I saw the buck crumble a second before I heard the shot. It was awesome. In the excitment we lost the smaller buck then picked him up again. Couple minutes later the next shot went off and it was a hit. After moving in to finish him off the guys bumped him but got back on him and finished the job. Congrats to Carlton our wounded warrior and to Duggan on both of there very first bucks! These guys were all smiles it was great. Duggan and his first deer with Levi Duggan and Carlton 2 nice bucks Carlton with his first buck and the volunteers. Gale on the left then Jayce and myself. I did nothing but show up. Hats off to Jayce and Gale for volunteering and for Levi for the tag donation.

Maybe he just wanted you to give him a shave. Kidding aside I heard an old lady in Bisbee got mauled pretty bad by one recently.

    New to Bowhunting

good advice here. I've always been pretty clumsy with field dressing, as I frankly just don't do it that often. This year I did the gutless method on my deer and it was ridiculously easy. Had that deer skinned cut up & in my backpack in less than 45 minutes and that's long compared to guys that are experienced at it. I've seen videos where guys get it done in under 15 minutes. That having been said, guys that are good at field dressing can get one done in close to the same time. My buddy I hunt with back in Nebraska does so many per year & is so good at it, he can get one from the field to freezer in about an hour. There's some good videos on that way too and it can net you some more meat plus the heart & liver if you like them. Also, don't over look the tongue. I just had deer tongue for the first time last week. Man, that's probably the best piece of meat on the deer! Can't believe I've been throwing them away all these years... I'll be taking that piece from now on too. Lol, this it's the first year I brought home an elk tongue off my son's cow. I had it in the fridge and noticed it was gone. Asked my daughter where it was and apparently my son took it to school for some old fashioned hijinx. Maybe next year.
  19. That's a great first buck. Congrats.

Nice job. The smiles say it all.
  25. Thanks for the replies. Overall I guess I'm just fascinated by a $350 gun that shoots amazing right out the box. I don't plan on trying to make my kids super snipers or anything just asking. It really just comes down to money for me. I'm a dude with 5 kids and I have to make it stretch. The side note is I need to replace my stolen (and only) hunting rifle. I was just hoping that accuracy applied to rugers stainless 7mm as well since that's the caliber I want for myself. If I can get that quality for 300 less then a tikka then that should be awesome. If not I'll probably go with the tikka.
