The computer automatically looks at your first and second choice, If you put in for a 1st choice as a hail Mary but have enough points to guarantee a tag as your second choice the computer automatically recognizes it and will give you the second choice. Always use your third choice as a tag you will take but not ever as your first or second choice. It can be kind of confusing. -

Some funny stuff going on here, md33, you deserve a kick in the nuts. Anyway, a couple 12a east hail marys, with a guaranteed 35a early December for my oldest son and my mom if they don't win the lottery. This will be my moms first ever hunt so im really hoping to see her kill her first deer! -
Boyds at one thumbhole and featherweight stocks
CatfishKev posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Selling a bunch of stuff right now. Proceeds will go to finishing my two teens rifles. Looking hard at the boyds at one thumbhole stocks because with the adjustable cheeck piece and adjustable butt pad i figure the younger kids could still shoot them and the older kids can grow into them. Secondarily considering the featherweight. Any thoughts or opinions? -

Gonna take a crack at pillars and bedding
CatfishKev posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I got some Devcon 10110 and I'm planning on doing my kids 2 savage rifles in boyds at one thumbhole stocks. Based on videos I feel pretty comfortable with the actual bedding part. But I'm wondering about the pillars. Is it worth it to do the adjustable pillars for a noob? What do you guys like, aluminum or steel and what is your preferred method to cut them down to size? Any advice of something a first timer might overlook? -
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/ this shows all the current fires. Also look at getting onxmaps on your phone, it has a layer that shows old and new burns. It's a nice feature, keep an an eye on camofire, it shows up there often discounted.

Spent the day yesterday watching videos and downloading apps to my phone. Target is the easiest store to do the extreme couponing thing and its easy to save 50% - 80% and more on a regular basis. They allow you to "stack" coupons like some other stores don't. Theres a begginers guide at Thekraazycouponlady.com that walks you through everything. Heres some of the deals... $ .19 per regular size bottle of shampoo. $ 2.49 for Oxi clean detergent 100oz bottle. $1 per box quaker oatmeal bars And the list goes on. Looking forward to trying it out.

Gonna take a crack at pillars and bedding
CatfishKev replied to CatfishKev's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Been reading that the pillars are somewhat negligible in a savage. Do you guys recomend do them first then bed the action? Some of what I've read says the tiny bit that the devcon shrinks really only leaves the pillars contacting the action in the end. Some recomend pillars but just shy of actual contact. What say the gurus? Honestly these are kids hunting rifles. I'd be surprised if either sees more then 50 rounds through them every year. -

The stocks finally came! Unfortunately dumb dumb ordered the wrong one for my daghters gun and I had to send it back and reorder (yes, I am dumb dumb). Anyhoo, I got to say when I originally saw the original at one stock I thought they were hideous, then I saw the thumb hole versions i was intrigued. I gotta say seeing it in person and on my son's axis I think the thumb hole version looks sweet. The kids also loved them so that's a plus. -
Dude if you are only sixteen put in for some of the youth hunts next time. Unit 23 has a youth any antlered deer tag and you get to hunt before all the other hunters. Lots of Big Muley and Coues in 23. Also, if you have not already done it go do your hunter safety course. It gives you an extra point for all species. Then next year you will be entering the draw with 2 points instead of one.

If you are in the area I'd recomend at the very least to stop and see Mt Rushmore 😉

Spotting scope is more for when you want a specific caliber of buck, allows you to zoom in close to know exactly what you're shooting. For now though you see antlers you shoot it! Maybe offer to tag along as an extra glasser on some other hunts with members here. You will learn a lot and get some good experience.
