Don't know the unit, however I would start with glassing from the roads first. Then if your not happy with what youre seeing consider hiking in. Glass open areas and sunny slopes first and as it warms start glassing the shade. Wait for your target to bed down and then go for it.

I'd keep it but the other kids rifles shoot tighter groups with a little more punch. Haven't had time to try a bunch of different types of ammo, mostly because I'm always short on time. Not opposed to keeping it just wondering how much it would cost and what all is involved to just switch calibers. -
Very first thing is a decent rangefinder. Next, I think a good sight is money well spent. I like the IQ sights because they help you stay consistent with the retina lock. Here's a link to some sales at Sierra trading post. https://www.sierratradingpost.com/s~iq/ If you go with a slider I'd do a two or three pin slider where you have a 20 and 30 yard then use the slider for further distances. Next would be arrows and broadheads. Do a lot of broadheads research and you will find that slick trick and g5 Montec are the two most used. I recomend slick trick, I recently made the switch myself and am very happy with them. As far as arrows I also just switched to carbon express maxima. I like the small diameter for less wind drift.

Lol, javelina in a hotel room that's some funny stuff. Thanks to Adam and forum members goldfinger76 and wildwoody I had more then my fair share of destroying a hotel bathroom. Adam was happy just to not have to clean the birds himself. We had sore fingers.

Wes thanks for the kind words and congrats on you're first western animal! I was a little bummed you guys left before filling a tag. I think I wanted you guys to kill something as much as you did. Come on back in August, or the next couple weeks if you can!

Are new broadheads too dull - Good article
CatfishKev replied to Viper's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Hard to believe you couldn't get them sharp. I saw a video where a guy was using a flat sharpening stone to sharpen them and it seemed to work pretty good. I also recently switched from muzzy and it was a toss up between the Montec and the slick trick magnum. I went with the slick tricks but considered switching to the montecs for ease of resharpening. After reading some other threads about Montec verses slick tricks I stayed with the slick tricks. It worked great on the buck I just killed. I'll be staying with the ST for now on. -

Wow! First deer and with a bow no less. Great job dude! Your very fortunate to have a wife that hunts with You. Since stalking might be difficult for you on rough terrain i would suggest just walking well used easy to walk trails where deer are slightly more used to people around. Maybe also river bottoms with trails. Youd be surprised how many chances you might get.
