Not "special" like you guys think I am but something for a special birthday or anniversary. my wife's birthday is a few days before Christmas just trying to plan ahead since December is a hard month for me with Christmas and 2 Christmas time birthdays I got to navigate. Wanna take momma somewhere nice. Any suggestions? Hotels already booked need to figure the rest out yet. Thanks

Her bday is mid December. Just planning ahead. I have her the list of what was mentioned.

Eh, she wanted me to ask..

Flemings of course was the first one she brought up. Used to be a place called Janos that was kinda swanky. That guy opened carriage house which we tried years ago.

Tried a couple double hook rigs this past weekend (flathead fishing) and never had much luck with them. I noticed my bluegills were dyeing pretty fast compared to 90% of my fishing with one hook. I'm thinking the lines are getting twisted too much by the time they hit the bottom leaving the live bait no room to move around and breathe. I'm thinking about a new set up with a super short line bait close to the swivel where the slide sinker is and leaving the main leader 18-24" for the live bluegill. I'm thinking the dead bait short line will still leave enough for a fish to grab it and not feel the weight while the live bait can swim a bit and stay more lively. I've always pretty much always done single hook per rod because of this just wondering what y'all might have to interject. Thanks

Thinking 18-24" live bait leader with a triple swivel up top and maybe a 4" leader for cut bait off the swivel. I'm thinking this will keep the live bait alive longer. Maybe a straight 24" since there's lots of weeds now

We will be, fishing flatheads is a boring game and always more fishing then catching . looking to just add a bit of fun with some channel cat potential.

You're trying to get me beat up tomorrow huh?
-
Not sure if that would apply to what I'm trying. I'm looking to rig a live bait that can swim freely but still have a dead bait close to the slide sinker. My thought is live bluegill on a long leader and cut bait like chicken liver or bluegill cut in half on maybe only maybe a 2 inch leader like maybe on a triple swivel. Trying to hedge my bets between the chance at a big fatty but don't want to miss an opportunity at a good eating channel cat.

Some of your best memories about the outdoors?
CatfishKev replied to knothead's topic in The Campfire
My dad didn't even take us camping, he didn't like waking feeling "Dewey". I always wanted to hunt since I was little. When I moved to AZ I got a bow and sucked at hunting but the first season I will never forget. Then my kids hunts, first was elk youth with my daughter and we hunted hard. Got it done second to last day and we were both jumping and crying. I will take that beautiful memory with me to the grave. Hands down my favorite hunts are elk youth tags! -

Thought I'd bump your post. I was killing bugs at a ranch north of Douglas and the tail flap caught my eye. Looks like it's still working great for them, even saw the bottom was plumbed fairly recently. Can't see to well in the pic because the sun was blinding me but same company.

Is this partially due to Nuscum? Saw the other day they are banning blocks in CA

As crazy monkey stated it's all about photoperiod same goes for deer. But I think you are on to something regarding changing weather patterns. Even the monsoon season seems to be changing imo. We were promised a wet year this time around and it was dismal during the typical time then came hard late on. I'm no biologist but if the pattern continues I could still see it based on photoperiod but I could imagine that sweet spot will be changing over the next 10 years. Typically deer rutting here had to do with birth time coming during monsoons. I could see the deer rut starting a tad later to coincide with later monsoons which I would imagine will start to be ingrained in the deer populations biological clock. Not a biologist, just thinking this will probably become a thing over time here in AZ. I was scouting an OTC elk unit a few years back and heard bugles in November. Just really makes you wonder.

Got the info needed, thanks all. Looks like it'll be good
