    Rifle?

Remingtom model 600 .243. Small, light weight, and able to shoot accurately out to 400 yds. Carry it around all day and carry it and a whitetail out in one trip.

    VERDE RIVER

My dad brought home 2 thirty pounders from Bartlett one day and it was super good eating. From my experience they are good fresh and not good after being frozen and then thawed. The way we cook em up is take the whole filet and cut into chunks and batter it and fry em up. It's like eating popcorn chicken, but it's fish, and it tasted awesome. Yeah, see we always found the big fish to be kinda meally and mushy.... I love catfish but just can't even bring myself to try those big fish again.... I'll turn then back to make more little'uns! 1-3 pounds are actually my favorite.... Pan size! fried in that beer batter or just corn meal. Now that is some good eatin' there! I'll have to try the bigguns' again and I'll try it the way you guys mentioned. Thanks. CnS I agree with you. I much rather eat the smaller ones to,but when all you catch are monsters what are ya goin to do?

I know they ain't up for voting, but I prefer 12x50.Any more magnification than that I feel you have to use a tri-pod.

    VERDE RIVER

I hear ya C,N,S. With big Flat-Head what I found that works is take the 4 fillet's( two from the back and two from the bellie's,skinned of course) and fillet them down to about the same thickness as a 2lb channel cat fillet.Or else the steaks are to thick to fry. Some "Golden Dipt" beer batter and lemon wedges and I like Ranch Style beens on the side. Chase it down with a cold beverage......that's what I am talking about.About the fishing on the "Verde" the nephew was up there last weekend and did very well catching a bunch of catfish with cut bluegill, biggest one being a 8lb channel.

    A few Coues pics

In the first picture with the buck it looks like you probally thought he was to small to shoot so decided to put a stalk ,in the ocotillos, for the picture. If you did it was worth it . Great picture. You can read that deers mind. Thanks for showing.

    Scotty Boy

I was afraid that was going to happen to you Scottboy. You have to go out and see the world before you realize Arizona is the best piece of land in the world. I'm a native and when I was around 24-28 I went out and chased $$$$. All I wanted was to get back to our great state and fast. Be patient, work with B.P. they will get you back in time.Don't throw away a great career(one that is hard to find with all those benefits) because you can't stand it.Unless you hate the job. Good luck.

    Now what?

I hear you Silent but Deadly. I am hunting the same unit as you and the weather has been brutal. Today is the 30th with wind gusts at 40+. Just came off the mountain after 7 days camping.Hoping the last day will be sunny with 5-10 wind out of the east. Planning on checking weather man and taking it from there. Good luck to you.

    Coues deer vs. muleys

I think the difference between the two are with the mules there only seems to be one dominant buck with a group of does, never having to compete or fight off other bucks ( IMO experience). While with whitetail, just like last Saturday I watched the dominant male running off up to 5 mature ( around 85" to 90" bucks ) off all day.The doe would never bed. He would bed to rest, then get up to tear up a tree or run off a buck,or chase the doe. After seeing all this I then realized why it is so hard to set up a spot and stalk with whitetail compared to mules.Wish I had a camera. I watched this all happen between 9:00 a.m to 2:00 P.M. I put three stalks on that deer. He never knew he was being hunted, but the hot doe sure did.She busted me everytime. It all covered about one square mile of constant movement. Great time !

    35A Last Day Sweetness

I would recommend Lippert/Doyle Taxidermy in Tucson. Maybe more $ for the beetles , but just goin in and having your jaw hit the floor is worth it.

    stalking

The only way I have ever had a chance is to see them before they see you, use the wind or anticipate {when they are rutting hard} where they are heading, slip around the backside and set up a ambush.
