It all starts from a simple part....

I have a 204 ruger ar, that is my go to coyote and bobcat round. Fast and flat, and doesn't mess up their pelts. Best predator round I've ever used. They don't run off either. Just point and shoot from 20 yards to 300 yards. No leading, no hold overs, just point and shoot. Can't beat the 204 ruger in my honest opinion.

So Where's the Official Countdown to CC Hits

Ticktock, ticktock. This is going to be a LONG day.
  3. I've never been before, but I'm making the trip this year. It sounds like a good time. Ride the ski lift up, and shoot the course on the way back down. I'll be headed up from Show Low. If anyone is interested in making the trip, I've got room in my truck. http://sunriseskiparkaz.com/2018-sunrise-3d-shootout/

    Food for Thought

I am a fool for getting sucked into this whole argument. There is never a winner in an argument like this. I'll accept defeat. I'm out.

I'm sorry but it IS feeding the anti's. We should support ALL legal methods of hunting. You don't have to like it, or even agree with it, but you should support it, and allow it. Some guys don't like hunting with dogs, some don't like long shots, some don't like archery, some people don't want to hunt bears, some don't want to hunt African Game, and on and on and on. Where do you draw the line on that!? Support all legal hunting, or go nit me a f#cking sweater. The problem is, that people are f#cking selfish now of days. I want it my way. Your way is wrong. Only my way is right. Grow a sack people. Nothing is perfect, get over it. Ok Six0 I simply posed a question about fair chase. I would rather you not get up in my grill because you don't like the question. BTW if you don't want to feed the antis then quit bragging about that 1000 yard assassination and don't post video of it (not you in particular because I have no idea how you hunt or go about your business). When you get your deer inside of 300/400 yards not much time to set up a camera. In some ways killing at very long range is like sleeping with your wife's sister better to not say anything about it or post video. I mean, you know if you don't want to feed the antis so to speak. I did not mean to get up in your grill. Just the part about feeding the anti's. Most of that was meant for anyone that wants to b!tch about long range hunting. We have to accept it as part of hunting. We can't keep crying over every little thing we don't like. We can't create a perfect world. It's never going to be perfect. Everyone seems to think a new law, or new rule is going to make everything all better, but it won't. But one thing is for sure, if we can't accept everyone in the hunting community even though we may disagree with them, we will slowly but surely give up more and more of our rights to hunt. So I say suck it up butter cup, and get over it. As long as it's legal, I say have at it.
  6. You shooting the 9am or 11am shoot on Saturday?

    Backpacking on a budget

Outdoor Vitals has some great gear for a great price. It's not dirt cheap, but their stuff is pretty good quality. I have a pretty decent setup that works well for me. Sleep Sytem: Chill Gorrila Fortress Tarp (1 lb 8oz with straps and everything / $90) Outdoor Vital Hammock (1lb with straps and everything $70) Outdoor Vital 20 Degree Underquilt (2 lbs 4 oz. $180) Outdoor Vital 0 Degree Sleeping Bag (2 lbs 10 oz. $240) Outdoor Vital Ultralight Sleeping Pad Insulated R4(1 lb 2 oz. $80) Cork Handle Trekking poles When I have trees and I know it's going to be warm outside I can get away with just the tarp, hammock, sleeping pad, and underquilt. When it's cold I just add my sleeping bag to the mix. Putting the sleeping pad in the hammock works great by the way. If I won't have trees to tie up to, I leave the hammock, and bring my trekking poles to build a shelter with the tarp. Minus the trekking poles I'm sitting at 8lbs 8 oz for a complete sleep system that is warm down to 10-15 degrees, super comfortable (best night sleep while camping ever), off the ground and snakes, good for rain and snow, and doesn't have to be set up on level ground. It's not the lightest setup you can come up with going the hammock route, but I also didn't break the bank doing it either. I bought all the stuff off amazon, and have roughly $650 in the gear. I don't think that's too bad considering some people will spend more than that on a sleeping bag or just the tent.
  8. It's pretty awesome up there. The temperature up there is nice and cool. I signed up for the 11am course. It'd be good to meet some fellow CWT guys up there. I've lived up in Page most of my life, and just recently moved to Show Low. PM me if you're interested in going. I rode the ski lift with my family for fathers day, and it looks like a pretty cool spot for an archery shoot.

We should all take responsible shots, that we know we can make. We should all support the guys who want to see the life leave their preys eyes as they slit their throats with a knife at 2 feet away, and those that spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars trying to shoot a flee off a goats butt at 2000 yards. We all hunt for different reasons. But we all share a common goal, and that is to hunt. Bickering and fighting does nothing but separate us, when we should be uniting to protect the reasons we want to hunt. If you want to bash another hunter for doing something that is illegal, than have at it. But, if you want to attack a hunter that's doing nothing illegal, then you might as well join the antis, because you're part of the problem, and I have no time for you. End of rant.

Scope Mounts and bipod suggestions, please!

Seekins all the way. Fairly inexpensive, and they are rock steady. Hard to beat an Atlas Bipod, but there is a new one out that has really caught my interest. The new Hatch Bipod is bad to the bone, but very pricey. I have personally used this bipod on a buddies rifle, and it is awesome. https://www.muleycrazy.com/store/p156/Hatch_Bipod.html

Anyone here go to the AZ Long Range PRS Matches?

The reason I chose the 7 SAUM, is because it's my least recoiling rifle that shoots .5 moa, has a decent tactical scope on it, and wouldn't be a chore to carry around. I do have a Howa 1500 Hogue 243 Winchester that would be a LOT cheaper to reload for, that I could use in the Production Division. It doesn't have a great scope on it though. I did change the bottom metal on the rifle too, so it would accept ATI magazines. Would this prevent me from competing in the Production Division? Thanks for the tips and pointers too by the way. Edited: ATI Bottom Metal and Mags, not AICS. I get that and the scope with tactical turrets is pretty much a must. A 243 would be nice with right weight rifle and appropriate scope. You will have fun and get to workout your 7mm at some yardage. If you want PM me if any more questions. Yep caliber MV limits are to save wear and tear on the steels. I would have to look at rules again but production does no allow much modification, meant for off the shelf precision rifles like Ruger Precision Rifle or Howas offering that have MSRP less than 2K. My 7 saum has a Gen 2 Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50 ffp mrad scope on it, and I believe it would be perfect for an entry level into the Open Division. It's a great shooting rifle too (.5 moa or better if I do my part). It is pricey to reload for though. My 243 win has a Gen 1 Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x44 sfp moa scope on it. It's a decent shooter (1 moa most days), and would probably allow me to shoot my first PRS. But I know I couldn't be competitive with it. I was looking at Legacy Sports Howa website, and they offer my exact rifle with the upgraded ATI bottom metal and mag setup. So technically it could be considered a factory rifle, I would think. Here's a link to the rifle that has the ATI setup. https://www.legacysports.com/catalog/howa/howa-mini-action-rifle/ Here is a picture of both rifles. I have a message in to Ryan Castle who is the rule maker for the PRS matches, to see if he'll allow my rifle in the Production Division. I hope it will. It's not like it's going to compete with the PRS built factory rifles they have out there now. Lol. I've just used it to kill deer with.
  15. I've just registered for the June 9th Club Match in Phoenix, with the Arizona Long Range Precision Rifle Series. I've never been to one, let alone competed in one. I'm wondering if any fellow Coues Whitetail members attend these, or have attended these club matches? Any pointers, or information anyone could give me would be awesome. So far all I know is to bring my rifle, 70-80 rounds of ammo, a bipod, a tripod, binos, and a range finder. Lol. I plan on spending this weekend finishing up my load work up, for my 7 SAUM (which I plan on competing with). Thanks.

Anyone here go to the AZ Long Range PRS Matches?

Yes they do. My best load with my 7 SAUM is 2850 fps, and I have a few loads for my 243 win that is just under 3200. Why do they have that rule? Don't quote me on this, but I've heard it's to protect the steel targets from getting ruined. I guess if you ruin a target, you're responsible for it. I could be wrong though. They only charge like 40 bucks to do one of these events. So they're not doing it for the money.

    No Respect!

I've learned at a young age to avoid any activities outdoors on Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July weekend, or Labor Day weekend. Nothing good happens when all the yahoo's come out. I go to the outdoors to get away from people, not be surrounded by them.

Garmin 120 For Sale $80 shipped tyd

    Sold
  21. I have a Garmin Rino 120 in used condition for sale. It has normal wear and tear for a gps of this age, but functions 100% as it should. I have no accessories or anything that come with it. This if for just the gps itself. I'm looking for a quick sale, so I'm going to ask $80 shipped to your door. This has been a great little gps unit, and the radio works great. I'm just needing a little quick cash to finish up a rifle build. Pics can be sent this evening if you'd like. Contact me at 435-668-9597. Thanks for looking. Jake P.S. This is listed on other sites, so first come first serve. Thanks.
  22. I purchased a set of Vortex Precision rings for a build I'm in the middle of, but ended up buying a scope with a 34mm tube. I removed these from the package and set them on the picatinny rail on my rifle, but they have never been tightened or, had a scope set in them. They are 99% new other than being removed from the package. I still have the original package, and it will be included. Looking for a quick sale, so I'm going to ask $85 shipped to your door. Pictures can be sent if requested. Here is a picture of them placed on the rifle. Contact is best through my cell phone at 435-668-9597. Thanks. Jake P.S.
