Ive done these quick trips when I was younger. seemed like a good thing to do at the time, after its all done and said and you think back its a waste of time for the simple reason you dont get to enjoy anything its all rush rush rush. save some time up and do a week at a min later on. there more enjoy able even if you dont tag. did 4 trips to colorado with my dad and a close friend. we never hunted/set foot in these wilderness areas before that alone took a few days to figure out what the heck we were doing as we went up blind. but we had a freaking blast and remember them to this day. if you think about it even going up to the north rim and hunting for 2-3 days is not enough time and thats when you know the area like the back of your hand. if it was me and you wanted to get away, I would grab a rifle head up to the north rim and shoot some yotes and look for deer and sheds. before I travels all the way to utah for a elk hunt.

Cool vid there a blast too call in no matter how big or small they are. last sat evening we called a pretty decent one in and my daughter was belly crawling under the bushes to it cause it wouldnt come around the brush, the elk and her are looking at each other a few yards away and and she goes " WOW you have pretty eyes" LMAO" she drew back on that bull 3-4 times but couldnt get a clean shot. he hung around for 45 mins playing cat and mouse. then he decided to walk off. we walked back to the jeep about 3 miles away and called him in at least a half dozen times just out of her bow range and in really thick crap. trying to go back out this up coming week for a day or 2 so she can tag one.

Congrats, love the look of lopes in the trees. hunting in the Forrest for lopes is tough just trying to find them.

In the 40+ years I been hunting I never heard the word harvast by hunter (that includes Japan most of the pacific NW texas the rocky states and even a few east coast states). Except when Political correctness started. most of those people are yupiies, from big cities back east and Ca. usually young people in there 30's Harvest started showing up about the time the animal rights wakos started hammering on the hunters on the internet and all the gay hunting tv shows came out. they had to make it more politically correct cause hunting and or killing an animal is bad. But Harvesting is ok. Heck man there some gay politically correct hunting websites that will ban you (after you been warned) for using the word "killed" and even for showing the animal in a picture were you can visible see the wound otr a slight trace of blood.

Thats the problem I have low self esteem

Thats cool congrats to her and you and your wife is Awsum for signing the tag over to the kid. I wish more people would do that. G&F set that up specifically for that to get those kids hunting. its great to see parents hunting with there kids.

it got pretty bad on the bass fishing seen with the tweekers stealing crap while your sleeping for the last 10 years. One guy was sleeping in his boat at alamo lake and they ripped everything off they could from the boat. graphs, rods reels tackle etc etc then at the one of the recent cop tourneys they ripped off a ton of cops

I can't relate. id rather sleep at night with a clean conscience knowing I did the right thing, end the suffering. I couldnt give a shoot less what the government says about that. Thats one thing PEOPLE should never talk about on a public forum is what to do when they see a wounded animal, can cause someone a crap load of problems by G&F

How can you respect something your going to kill I mean seriously!Do you even hunt? not since my kids were old enough to hunt big game every drawn tag I get but one went to them in 16 years. I had my fun when I was younger now its there turn if I can legally sign it over.Archery deer yotes, pdogs yes but mainly help the kids 1st . But then again thats just me. And that's the example you set for them, no respect for the animals? Do you know what respect is? trying to figure out what I am missing here. you know how I type, things always come out a little different what example am I / or not setting for them? should I pray to Allah after every animal killed?, drink the blood, do a rain dance, eat the heart raw? you tell me what I am doing wrong. cause I dont follow this respect part. other than trying your best to make a quick clean shot and put the animal down fast. but then its better to use a rifle than a bow unless your a piss pour shot with a rifle too.

I'm not condoning what the guy did or didnt do. I wasnt there and dont know the whole story and dont know his side. what I am saying is that you know maybe the guy got excited thought the animal was not mortally wounded, he could have been a new hunter who knows.. no one knows but the guide and his hunter that was there at the time. its part of the game with archery hunting, unless the animal drops withing a 100 yards you really dont know whats going to happen when you find it. alot of us wait x amount of time before we take off tracking it. alot of crap can happen in that time

sweet, nice bull congrats

I dont harvest I kill. Yes I have wounded animals and it sucks big time. you do your best to find them, but &*&& happens wether it be a rifle or a bow. I'm not the PC type Cant stand the Word Harvest thats for farmers not for hunters. Hunters go and kill an animal to eat or reduce the population.

The crack whores and meth heads are all over small towns you always have to watch your stuff with in 20-30 miles of a small town. in unit 8 we see a few of them driving in cars up and down the roads not near as many in at as other units there looking to steal stuff nothing else. they usually only hang around main roads get off a main road and your stuff will be safer. kinda hard to do if your in a 5th wheel. we tent camp and always back in the middle of nowhere. havent had any problems except in 6a as well as on the rim close to payson strawberry pine paulden and a few other places.

Sucks that it happened, Ive had it happen when I was a kid a few times in washington state back in the late 70's one reason I never hunt near people. Happened in the kaibab kinda in the 90's but it was no biggy. shot a pretty decent non typical buck laying down. he took off running like a bat out of heck. he ran and ran never stopped. we lost blood train figured we would go back and look for him after we got some lunch. about 2 hours later were driving down this road to the far side, in a camp a guy is skinning the buck I hit. I stopped and asked him where he shot it.. said about 400 yards from his camp. said the thing had a xx75 and a wasp broadhead sticking out of his back. he even gave it back to me. there was a pause for a min and I said keep the deer you killed it. he was pretty relieved cause there were 2 of us and we were bigger and 30 years younger. the guy didnt do anything wrong, that buck ran a min of a mile and I could tell by the guys attitude he wasnt bsing me. we ended up seieng him every year for a good 6-7 years during archery season before they closed it to draw only. always said hi to one another and feed info back and forth. so every situation is different. Ive worried about it only when I hunt with my daughter. being her first animal it would probably come to blows depending on the circumstances. if the guy is bsing and you can tell he is then yeah somethings going to happen. but if the guy is sincere made one or too bad shots and hit it were it could die and actually killed it more power to him its his. dont forget there is ALWAYS 2 SIDES to the story and the one telling the story tends to exagerate a tad in his favor.(not saying this is what happen but people cant judge it with out here both sides. How can you respect something your going to kill I mean seriously!

this is funny timing wise........ we met a guy his weekend (You live in the same small town a friend of mine does and you know him)that was just out calling cause he loves to call elk during the rut tag or no tag. we bs'd with him for a while. I tried to catch him yesterday as he was parked right across from our camp calling in a little saddle. I wanted to tell him that when we drove back to camp around 10am . I took 2 steps out of the jeep and decent bull let out a bugles and a bark got up and ran off. he was bedded down right behind our tent.not more than 20 yards away.. Might see him up there next week, if hes on here he will know where I am talking about.. and the area south and behind where we org talked to you is loaded with elk, but there not talking in the am only in the evening and very little. we got on 2 more decent ones over the weekend she didnt seal the deal. had fun with one bull for 45 mins at 20 and 30 yards thick crap in there. friday morning was a freaking elk concert then it got warm and they quieted down for 2 days.(in that area) there still in there just not as vocal. Delw .

You could kill a buck like the ones in the first pics in any unit in the state. Those are probably 60-65" antelope at best and are available everywhere. Just find a unit with some public land and go hunting. You can still buy a preference point for this year so be sure to do that as you'll be opened up to a lot more units you could draw with one point. The unit I hunted was one of the premier units in the state and takes a bunch of points to draw. The main reason you'd wait for that is to get a high scoring buck. It's still nowhere even close to the quality of AZ as I truly did look over atleast 1000 bucks to find that one. If you glassed 20 bucks in AZ before season you'd find one bigger then the one I killed. The cool thing about Wyoming antelope is there's a million of them so if you just wanna shoot one then pic a unit with a bunch of public (or private access for a fee if you are capable) and go. You literally can't mess it up and you will kill your bucks. Thanks for the info Ive been to wy just never hunter there. lopes are like pigeons in the city over there. I got 3 tags here in AZ. I like the non typical lopes. a guy I know in Montana has killed some insane looking ones of the years. only thing I worry about going out of state is I don't know the area and don't have much time to scout, not to mention getting the time off to hunt for a long period. Kid wants a lope in a bad way, I wouldnt mind one with a bow but wouldnt do a rifle tag up there unless it was a good unit. Kid will shoot anything shes not picky.so its more for Her then I. a friend gave me some info on NM today when he saw this post.

nope, The Warden got me 2 pairs today. last year I went through 2 pair of tennis shoes in the 1st 4 days and a old pair of boots. Kid had me hunting in the rocky crap. feet just quit hunting a month ago i messed them up pretty good. and before you say it tennis shoes are much more quieter thats why I wear them
