  1. so the forrest are shut down. aside from lightning whats been the big cause of fires over the recent years.

a good percentage of the fires started right along the highways... Trailer Chains, people tossing cigarettes out the window, car fires, etc etc.

The closures isnt going to reduce fires that much. as you have people who have cabins in those areas still going to have lots of traffic on the roads with lots of potential. not to mention the resident crack heads and hippies who just dont care. and of coarse our very own road construction crews have caused fires.

dont get me wrong fires are the worse they take away everything you own, sometimes those you love and having some idiot cause it sucks even worse.

Crap, there is a new illness flying around. Close everything because we are all gonna die! Sound familiar? Closing things down does nothing.

Agreed, you can't fix 'stupid' and you'll never prevent lightning fires, but do you really think it does "nothing"???

I hope that closing the forest will keep at least one or two idiots from maybe starting a fire.....

The idiot I had to report this past weekend with a campfire going all evening is why they close the forest during these times. He told the officials he thought it meant for locals only.....from Snottsdale of course.

It sounds like the same type of argument they are using for gun control. a few idiots screw it up for everyone.

with the exception of a few idiots like bohntr mentioned they shouldnt be allowed to close the forrest.

me myself I generally dont go up north or out in the higher deserts yote hunting during june and early july especially when its dry, I dont need a closure to tell me that however. vehicle cats start fires often when people park in grass's off the side and shoulders of the road.

Red Rabbit i take back that statement.  from my phone it looked like it was on the road to jerome by winters cabin....its still at the bottom.  I pulled up on the computer and it clearly shows still there..

On the computer with one of the maps it looked like its jumped to 6b as well when you had posted. then I saw the map on azfamily and it showed it jumped.

My wife was lucky enough to draw a unit 8 early archery bull tag with only 4 points as non resident.  We have been in that unit in the past, mainly for a late bull rifle hunt.  We are in good shape and have no problem going the extra mile to get away from the crowds.  Most of the sycamore wilderness area seems to be at lower elevation.  Are there enough elk to go after in the canyons, or should we focus on higher elevation like the AZ fish and game seems to recommend?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    you'll be fine.

most of the area that is burnt now is almost pretty inaccessible to most humans anyhow, the canyons are pretty dang steep, Ive seen maybe 5-10 people in all the years, one major reason is due to heat during the early archery bull season, and theres so many other areas to hunt in that unit. I have hunted in the canyon from perkinsville to sycamore point.

The elk and deer pretty much had time to move out, and they werent really being blocked in from the fire. if the fire had started from the top and bottom it could have been pretty bad. animal survival wise.

it may effect the bear population as well as lions and bobcats cause theres alot of dens in those cliffs.

that being said theres nice elk all over unit 8 and once it greens up it will be a buffet.

this is one finger of the canyon that got burned up according to the map anyhow. sorry but the only pic I had is with the mugly kid in it.

Full forest closure for the Kaibab National Forest to begin Wednesday morning
Williams, Arizona, June 21, 2021 — FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., June 21, 2021 — Due to fire danger, dry conditions, and persistent wildfire activity during a time when firefighting resources are sparse, the entirety of the Kaibab National Forest will close for public safety, beginning Wednesday (June 23) at 8 a.m. A full forest closure means that the public is prohibited from entering any part of the Kaibab National Forest at any time. Those with private inholdings will be allowed access to their property, as well as personnel providing utility support where necessary, and firefighters performing their duties. In addition, work on thinning and other forest and watershed restoration projects will cease. Forest Service personnel will attempt to reach as many people as possible to begin vacating campsites and informing individuals who are camping in the forest currently. Campers and visitors to the national forest should vacate their campsites before the closure begins, and the public should cancel any plans for visiting the Kaibab National Forest for the next several weeks. Though parts of the national forest may receive rain from sporadic storms over the next couple of weeks, this closure will not be rescinded until sufficient precipitation is received to adequately reduce the risk of wildfire, and hot, dry weather conditions are no longer forecast to continue. In short, this closure will continue until conditions are such that the closure can be lifted. The violation of closures and fire restrictions carries a mandatory appearance in federal court, punishable as a Class B misdemeanor with a fine of up to $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or up to six months in prison, or both. Stay up to date on Kaibab National Forest news by checking the Kaibab NF website and following @KaibabNF on Facebook and Twitter.

I hadnt seen the latest  map update on the fire movement but I was really surprized that fire didnt run up the canyons more west. looks like it start a mile east of the perkinville williams highway where it turns to dirt .

They closed bill williams mountain a few months ago didnt they?

That's a pretty dumb thing to say. If they aren't going to allow people to put in a secondary card or call them if their card is declined why shouldn't they have the give a reminder? I would bet the majority of people that have card issues aren't because they aren't "accountable" but rather because thieves are trying to steal their card info every second of every day. Then to say the reason to do it is to up your draw odds is even dumber. My hope would be that your card gets hacked 2 hours after the card update deadline and you don't draw because you aren't accountable for your actions and are irresponsible.

No it isnt, he has a point.

if your cards get hacked or what ever reason then update them right away and go to the G&F website and change them, Its kinda just like you would do on anything else. that you use CC cards for but for some reason "Its G&F'S responsibility to remind people"

if your card gets hacked 2 hours before then you'd better work fast  ;)

You are correct the commission has given the public a license to steal! But I guess there will be a lot more prosecutions of theft by the sheriffs dept.

How are they gonna prove that a person is targeting a certain bull until that bull is dead and if you didnt kill it then they have to connect the dots to prove whether you were involved with the aid or take of that animal.

Its an unenforceable rule based up on THE LIE!

Most reasonable people know that the above highlighted statement is not true,  so wouldnt that make you a liar as well?

There is an outright ban but its only tied to aid and take. So you and your  buddies that hunt can still put up cameras just cant share or kill the animal you find on camera forever! Dumbest thing I ever heard.

The non hunting public can run trail cams all yearlong !  Wonder if they will share their pics on social media? Dont kill an animal they post or you could  be cited and they could be cited also.

There is so many unintended consequences to this ban. They could have done much better

But when its an agenda driven ban by Chairman Commissioner Davis nobody thought it  through.

    Your a Drama queen dude
