  1. I'm new to this whole predator calling thing. Had some time this morning coyotes were howling good before the sun came up. First stand brought in a few ravens. On my second stand I was able to get some coyotes to respond to a locator howl but nothing came in when I hit the distress call. They seeemed close but I was not able to see them. Third stand brought in some sort of little hawk.

Every time out I get a little closer. One of these days I'll cross paths with a coyote less skilled than me.

How long did you call the stand ?

  2.

I'm 6/6 with the vmaxs this year. Furthest was 309 yards.

    309 yards lol

I thought we were calling them in ?

Sorry not trying to be rude just asking

have you ever even been coyote calling lol

Haha just a lil bit !

before I made this account I used to watch this form and see you just mess with everyone this is awesome !

  3. I use a 243 and a 223, 40gr vmax from my 223 kills stuff deader than my 243 ever did. It must have something to do with the bullet not exiting and transferring all the energy

Sweet im glade thar works for you ! my style of hunting and the way i do things a 40 grain VMAX would never work for me well i wont say never but most times it wont work .

When I first started hunting coyotes i used the .223 62 grain VMAX Work great sometimes and then as I progressed as a caller and learned more I got myself in the situations where Vmax bullet just wouldn't hold up to the job !

  4. Nah, not serious at all.

I shoot a 6.8 spc when I want them dead(tournament). Mostly I carry a 223 loaded soft because we call in more cats and fox than coyotes. When the fur is good we skin and tan so the bigger bore is a no go.

So do I buddy 80 grain TSX Ive shot bobcats as Close as 10 yards as far as 200 yards never any Pelt damage!

People shy away from the Barnes Bullets on predators mainly because they cost a lot more .

What tournaments do you do ?

  6. I had a big response typed out at work...then hit the "back" button and lost it all.

Don't forget to budget for a high quality 20MOA Picatinny base, good rings, and an anti-cant level. In the neighborhood of $250-400.

In a nutshell in no particular order:

    Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56 w. EBR-1c $2500

    Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 w. SCR $1999

    March 2.5-24x52 $2508

    Swarovski Z6 5-30x50 $2469

    Kahles K624i Gen II 6-24x56 w. MSR $2399

    Minox ZE5-I 5-25x56 $1869

    Sightron SIII 6-24x50 $849

    Nightforce Enhanced ATACR 5-25X56 $2399

    Athlon Chronos 4.5-29x56 $1699

    Sig Sauer Tango 6 5-30x56 $2499

A lot of these are FFP scopes, so miss that criteria. But all are great scopes that would serve you well. There are a few others that would top my list, but they top your budget too, by $300-5000 depending on model.

    Schmidt & Bender PMII

    Tangent Theta

Premier Reticles (only used are available now)

    Hensoldt

Kahles K624i Gen III (one of my two favorite scopes I own)

    Zeiss Victory DL

    Zeiss Victory V8

    Swarovski X5/X5i

    US Optics

    Leupold Mark 8

Yeah I already got a badger 20 Moa rail and was planing on getting there rings also !!!!!!

    Thanks alot sir !!!!!

  7. The questions we really need answers on to give good suggestions are as follows:

Price Range? Probably the #1 requirement.

Reticle preference? Do you like a duplex, or something you can use more easily to hold for elevation and wind holds?

    Usage? Hunting? Targets? Both?

Preference on adjustments? Holdover? Dial? Dial elevation, hold windage?

SFP or FFP? All preference based.

    Preferences on features?

    Glass quality

    Tracking

    Turrets

    Locking turrets

    Second rotation indicator

    Illuminated reticle

    Weight

    Eye box

A few observations....from experience. If you say you will shoot to 800 max, be honest with yourself. You didn't build a custom .300RUM to shoot 800 yards max. That cartridge is fully capable of doubling+ that yardage for steel shooting. With practice, you will be too.

While the Leupold VX-6 is a good scope. I used to think Leupold were top tier scopes. While they are a good scope, there are others that have surpassed them. But millions of shooters love them.

    Price $2500 max

I like a clean retical but that's not really available in the high end scopes !

It would be mainly hunting and targets ! you have to practice lol .

I want dials and I like the CDS system that leupold offers !

    Second focal plane

    Preferences on features?

Glass quality - I want to be able to see stuff

    Tracking- ?

    Turrets - yes

Locking turrets ? You mean zero stop ? Yes

    Second rotation indicator- N/A

    Illuminated reticle- no

    Weight - don't matter

I am being honest with myself I would probably shoot at targets further but never animals Personal opinion don't want to start any drama . I have had that gun since I was 16 and I finally get to do it for build with the rifle I love that caliber I had a leupold LPS

3.5-14x50 on it before I dropped it off the Keith and I'm ready to upgrade

    Thanks a lot lance !!!!!!!

  8. Hi guys this is my second post on the website here I'm currently in a rifle build with Phoenix custom rifles should be getting my 300 rum back here another two months or so now I'm on the decisions of what scope to get

    I was thinking a leupold VX-6 4.5-24x52 CDS Target 34 mm Tube ?

I'm kind of lost with this since I'm building the rifle of my dreams any feedback is great thank you

  9. Hard hunt but a ton of fun. Was able to get on bulls most days chasing bugles and sitting trails. Had a great bull at 30 yrds opening afternoon but as I was settling my pin on his shoulder I realized his left main was broke off just past his g2 so being the opener I let him walk. Never pulled back again till late Friday. While chasing bugles found this old guy in a pond wallowing around. All I could see was his tips over the bank. He stepped out and stood broadside at 65 yrds. Was not sure if I even hit. Waited and hr before looking for my arrow and blood, Could not find either. Was starting to get worried and it was dark by now. Walked over the hill to take one look in the direction he headed and just before I was about to quit for the night to return in the morning the flashlight found him pilled up on the other side of the canyon. Double lung with the arrow buried . Not my biggest but love the character

    That's a sweet looking bull !!! Congratulations
