What is your price range for rings? I have used valdada rings a few times when something like Nightforce or badger was not in the budget. I'm pretty impressed with their Machining at a $90 price tag.

As I was climbing to make the call to Game Thief my worst nightmare was that we would get a Wildlife Manager with an attitude like yours. Very reckless? I was in a blind with him and I was never in any danger. He identified his target as an antlered animal so no other human was in any danger. It was impulsive and there was a definite problem with species identification. He should have waited till the target was in my sight and I confirmed it. It was only his 2nd hunt. I don't know what instruction he got on the first, also an elk hunt, regarding target identification. I showed him the camera footage from that tank with both deer and elk. Was it enough? Here is your first lesson, here is your final exam. I am definitely looking at what I could have done better. The Wildlife manager did his investigation. After taking into account all contributing factors a written warning was issued. The deer was confiscated and taken to a food bank. The veteran was very upset about his mistake and ready to give up on hunting. The WM stayed a while and spent some time with him acting as a mentor. By the time the WM was ready to leave the vet had expressed interest in continuing to hunt. As I said above WM Austin is a great guy. I got his business card out of the ordeal but I do not recommend this method of accomplishing that.

Sanding down a B&C medalist stock

If you feel you have to sand it down and it is porous put a layer of JB Weld over the sanded surface then finish sand it and paint. -
Highs and Lows - Life stops for life-threatening illnesses

Not having children I can not imagine what you are going through. I know how it feels to sit and hold one of my pets that has a terminal illnes. How many times does that feeling get multiplied when it is your child? I hope Gabi is back out hunting with you soon. -
Bull crap. 7W is the driest I have seen in 25 years. And the elk hunting is the worst. The 7W unit manager is awesome. Long, scary story. scary story, do tell. I took a vet out with a last minute tag donation with Hunts for Heroes in 4B. I agree, very dry and an extremely rough hunt. I do know how to contact a unit manager. My vet spotted an animal and fired before I could verify the target. It was a deer. The unit manager came right to me. I recommend making contact through other methods. WM Austin is a great guy and without his input I believe the vet would have probably given up on hunting. It was only his second Big Game hunt.

Is the sight a dovetail mount?

Many would kill a forky because the forky can be venison steak on the grill this year. To some that beats holding out for a bigger buck and ending up with a empty freezer.

If it's not Factory it's probably pieces of old leaf Spring or steel bar cut to size drilled and bolted to the leaf spring to make a lift block. Possibly because the truck consistently carried a heavy load and the previous owner just wanted it level.

If your rebarreling Andrey chambering the bolt swap is not an issue. As Mike S stated the new Barrel will be headspace to the new Bolt. If you were to remove your old Bolt and replace it with a new bolt for the same caliber your head spacing would probably be off. I expect you might find an issue with the action I believe the feed rails inside the action for the Magnum cartridge are cut wider than those for a 308 class cartridge.

Did you need a building permit to put that thing up? That's awesome dad is 72 and out on his first elk tag. As they say better late than never

It's very thoughtful of you to think of donating the tag, hope you heal up soon. I can tell you from first-hand experience that getting that opportunity means a lot to the veterans. I've guided a few of them in the past and I'm getting ready to take another one out tomorrow morning.

The difference is California is part of the US and Mexico is not. Now, if we could just get California to secede from the US and get annexed by Mexico.

I drive for a living and have lots of time to think. I spent a little time keeping myself amused with this thread today. If the bullet is the proper size it can not wobble in the bore because it is tightly contained. However, if the bullet starts out crooked while traveling through the leade and into the bore, and is forced into alignment with the bore, it could be damaged. The bullet may leave the barrel still perfectly round but no longer have its mass evenly distributed around it's center line. That would cause it to start to wobble.

Some of the gun shops like Healy arms have a website you can look at their inventory online might be worth checking a few of them out

Nice group. Sometimes we get all hung up on using the latest and greatest products when the old ones that we've had for years still work perfectly good.

There is a simple little trick that makes hanging chains much easier. I mentioned it in another thread recently. I pulled out my chains to inspect them today and thought I would shoot a few photos and get it up here. It is one of those things that can make life much easier at a moment when it will be much appreciated. Lay the chain out, make sure the tightening cam is to the outside. Place a 4 x 4 block several sections up, inside the chain. Drive onto the block. Pull the chain up over the tire. Work the chain tight, starting down by the block and working toward the end with the hook and cam. Engage the hook and cam. It is like installing the chain with the vehicle jacked up and you can get the chain fairly tight. I do not carry bunge cords.

The velocity loss due to a case split or loose primer will vary depending on how much gas leaks. Basically, the worse the leak is the more velocity you will loose. I have had a chrono on a .308 with 168's at 2650 when a few case leaks occurred and seen velocity drops of 50 to 200 fps depending on the severity of the leak. I don't see how a bullet could be crooked once it is in the bore. The bullet has a bit of length to it and fits very tightly in the bore. My guess is the issue is where the barrel pointed when the bullet exits. Barrels vibrate like a tuning fork when the gun is fired. Consistency in this vibration leads to accuracy, the barrel is always in the same position when a bullet exits. A bullet that entered the throat out of alignment would have to be forced straight to enter the bore. This could cause a spike in pressure that could vary with the amount of misalignment. That could alter the pressure curve as the round traveled down the barrel. The altered pressure curve could change how the barrel vibrates and change the point of impact. I'm sure some precision rifle manufactures, benchrest shooters, and possibly organizations like the USMC Scout/Sniper program have done research on this. If you dig around on the internet you can probably find some studies on this subject that take an engineering degree to understand. Can't help you there, I don't have one.

My partner has an old M-77 that he fell and broke the stock in half. We are talking about getting a inexpensive new stock for it and putting one of my old scopes on it to make a decent loaner rifle. If we find a factory take off would an M-77 MK II factory stock fit an older M-77 with the tang safety?
-
Wrk2Hnt has it nailed. I was looking at some aftermarket stocks and the M-77 and M-77 MK II are listed separately. Definitely not interchangeable.
-
Yeah, you're right. If they work good for you go with Litz's BC's and shoot them. I had always had good results with BT's and AB's. My reason for dumping the ABLR was that it couldn't match the berger for accuracy, not the inflated BC. Still, it really irritates me when a manufacturer provides false specifications to make their product look more appealing. I had my little temper tantrum. I feel better now.

For anybody wanting high quality cut-resistant gloves companies like Grainger will carry them. They are commonly worn by employees working around sharp blades in Industrial applications. Some of them can get pretty exotic. At one time I did some independent Contracting for a company that did a lot of ballistic armor work. The guys who operated the saw that cut the sheets of Spectra or Kevlar wore gloves that were made out of fine interlocking stainless steel links, kind of like medieval chainmail armor.

You are dead on with that one. With the gutless method your hands and the knife are in sight. There is a lot less chance of screwing up when you can see what you're doing.
-
Inflating the BC of a bullet by 10% plus on the part of the manufacture is not a mistake, it is a flat out lie. I have used Nosler bullets for many years. Right now there are not as many of them on my shelf. If they currently feel it is OK to engage in a campaign of using falsified BC's to attempt to gain market share I will choose to use another manufactures bullet. There are lots of Berger bullets on my shelf right now.

Can I have one too?

I appreciate the offer. Cheap in Tucson tends to be a bit more expensive by the time it gets to Phoenix.
